- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2013My eye doctor had another, more expensive, Keurig system - and it made a good cup of coffee. I'm the only one who drinks coffee at home - so I don't need a big tank, I don't need a big LCD screen that tells me what's happening. I don't need any of the bells and whistles. And I didn't want to spend a lot of money when I was only going to make 1 cup a day. I've used Mr. Coffee products in the past and saw this and thought great! A few months have passed and I really like it. There are many complaints about the small tank - didn't anyone read the description? Right at the top of the page on Amazon next to the picture it says 24-ounce tank. Brews in 2 sizes - 6 and 10 ounce. Yup, small cups. I have an 18 ounce mug - I brew a 6ounce cup and then brew a 10ounce cup right after in the same mug - gives me a 16ounce cup of coffee, there's room for some milk and I'm good. If I wanted bells and whistles I could have paid hundreds of dollars - but I wanted a basic Keurig system, inexpensive - that's what I ordered and that's what I got. I'm totally happy with it.
Oh - yes, it's not "instant" coffee - the water stays in the tank until you hit the brew button. Then the water drops inside the machine and is heated up - meaning - it's not preheaded like the larger, more expensive machines. You hit brew, the water drops, and THEN the machine heats the water. So yes, you wait while it heats the water and brews the coffee. Not a big deal for me as I'm usually doing other things while it makes the coffee. If you want a system what has a large water tank and preheats the water so that it's (in a sense) "instant" coffee making then you have to pay more money for another machine. Again - read the description on the Amazon page - look at the pictures. Know in advance that this lower-cost machine doesn't do some things, but for me, makes a great cup of coffee.
What I would do differently has to do with the actual K-cups. I bought a lot of variety packs to see what there was out there. And for me the learnings were stick to name brands - Folger's, Millstone and Cafe Escapes (for the milk and dark hot chocolate, and the chai latte). Some of the cups included in the variety packs tasted like water even when brewed at the 6ounce size.
End Result - I did some research before I hit the buy button, knew what I was looking for and what I was getting and I'm totally satisfied. Am totally happy with my purchase!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2013Pros:
Cost - These are about 1/2 as much as an actual Keurig system and work just as well as one.
Select able Cup size - You would pay about 20 more one other systems for that feature, it makes brewing for travel or just sitting at home a breeze.
Removable dip tray - This allows for the taller mugs to be filled up, some other systems can brew for a 10 or 12 ounce cup but do not fit a 12 ounce mug.
Cons:
No audible warnings - This is not overall a huge feature but I have wasted a couple of cups just on the fact that I have a busy house and forgot I had put this on.
Smaller water reservoir- This means that you will need to put water in more often, although replacing the water in the container is very simple and accessible.
Overall:
I would say that this is by far a better value than the keurig system. You can't really beat 1/2 the price with all the features, not even then standard system at around 90 comes with select-able size. They did a great job at making this look high end, the plastic is very rigid and the black color, mixed in with the red and blue lights makes this look just as professional as the Keurig system. On a side note, the 10-ounce is about as large as you would need to go, some like the 12-ounce but for the serious coffee drinkers 12-ounce dilutes the coffee too much and makes it not as strong, but that is simply a personal opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2014I have had the Mr. Coffee BVMC-KG5-001 Single Serve Coffee Brewer Powered by Keurig Brewing Technology($69), for almost a year now and I love it.. My granddaughter has the Keurig K10 Mini Plus Poinciana Red Single Serve Personal Brewer ($90) and I think this one is far better...
1. It holds 24 oz of water.. with the Keurig K10 you have to pour the water in each time you use it..
2. I like dark coffee and have found when I use Dark Magic or Dark Italian Roast, I can put the control on 6 oz twice for a 12oz cup of coffee...
3. It makes a nice hot cup of coffee..
4. Other review( When I select the large cup size, the water flows inside the coffee maker right into the drip tray about half the time. The other half of the time, I receive only about half a cup of coffee.) This has never happened to me....
5. I get the right amount of coffee ( 6oz or 10oz) each time... sometimes I forget I have changed the control.. but that's my fault...
Yes, you can get a fancier Keurig if you want to pay a much higher price, but you can't beat the Mr. Coffee and it's cheaper than the comparable Keurig....
UPDATE: Several times while brewing coffee, there wouldn't be enough water to make the size coffee I wanted.. lights would start flashing.. the first time it happened, I thought for sure it would double the amount I wanted.. but no... when I turned it back on, it started from where it left off... today, it happened and somehow when I turned it back on I had chose the other size cup... it would not brew it... turned itself off. When I realized what had happen I chose the size I was brewing ... and it finished the cup I had started... I've never had a problem with it not brewing the size cup I chose... LOVE this machine!!
UPDATE: Bought this in 2014 and it's still going strong... no problems... love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is good for small gatherings
I would like a bigger water capacity but it is adequate for what I need it for.
