    This shaver was perfect for me:
    1. It plugs in the wall, which is the only way I ever use an electric shaver. (The power cord is included, and is detachable.)
    2. I don't have to worry about the batteries' dying. It doesn't have batteries.
    3. It is *very* quiet.
    4. It shaves really, really well, much better than any other electric razor I have ever owned (including Norelcos). (I have tough, bristle-brush-like facial hair.)
    5. It is not immersible in water. I never used that feature anyway. (It has a small, tasteful decal on the back to remind me not to immerse it in water.)
    6. It was less expensive than the replacement blades for my old Norelco.
    7. It did not come with a case. I never used the cases on my other Norelcos. (They just took up room in a drawer.)
    8. It comes with a plastic cap to put over the shaving head, great when throwing it in a suitcase.
    9. It comes with a small brush for cleaning the inside of the shaving head.
    10. It comes with a small paper manual, but I figured it all out in about 10 seconds without reading the manual.
    11. It comes with a simple pop-up sideburn trimmer, that is easy to use.
    12. It has an attractive blue and black design.
    13. All of its packaging (paper and plastic) was recyclable at my local recycling center.

    This is my second Norelco razor.My first one was 7140XL. I thought i would buy a cheaper version than my previous one , big mistake. This razor does not have a battery like more expensive models , so it has to be plugged in all the time, this feature was not on the page when i purchased the razor.Also, the power cord is too short and constantly comes out. The blades were not as sharp as other model and gave me bad razor burns and the replacement blades cost as much as the razor. If you plan on purchasing a electric razor , spend little more money and get a razor that will treat your face good and not burn or cut you. If you're cheap or on a budget do not pay more than $25 and buy lots of after shave lotion.

    After my I accidentally spilled water on my old, faithful Norelco 985RX, the battery would spontaneously discharge and eventually wouldn't hold a charge. I could not use it even when it was plugged in. I will try my hand at changing the battery sometime soon, and if I can get it to work again, I'll leave it at work. I already had the battery changed in 2004 at a cost of about $30. I contacted Norelco about sending it to a service center, but with the cost of shipping, parts, labor, it would be more expensive than buying a new one.

    I didn't want to spend a lot on another shaver, and I thought about forgoing a rechargeable razor. I don't want to deal with the replacing a battery every few years. I don't travel much, and even when I do, I have access to an outlet. I saw an ad for Black Friday in which K-mart was selling this model for $24.99. I checked Amazon and it was the same price w/ free shipping (with a total purchase of > $25 for Super Savers) and no tax. I didn't have to leave the house and fight the crowds.

    I received the razor, and compared to the 985RX and another older Norelco, this felt very light and plasticky, almost like a toy. The 985RX felt hefty and solid. It was made in Holland, unlike this one made in China. I don't grow much of a beard, and after trying it out, it did give me a good shave, comparable to my previous razor.

    This doesn't have all the bells and whistles. The 985RX had an LCD display showing the minutes left. The 6940 doesn't have the fancy look or the latest Norelco shaving technology. However, for me, it gives me a good, clean shave. It's quiet, and I can complete my shave in < 1 minute. It would be nice to be able to rinse under the tap to clean it, but it isn't a a deal breaker. I agree with other reviewers in that the cord is a little short, but for me, this isn't a problem.

    Overall, this seems to be a good product, and Amazon had a great price.
