People have been spotting my new Lenovo at work and have been asking me about it. As a longtime Windows PC user In a sea of iPads and MacBook Airs, I was looking for a powerful replacement for my 17 inch, 8.5 lb laptop juggernaut. The Yoga fulfills and surpasses my previous laptop, bringing a combination of excellent speed, performance, and form factor. Allow me to elaborate on some of the various features:

    HARDWARE

The Yoga is promoted as an ultrabook that can adjust in both a "tablet" and "tent" mode. The Tablet mode is an interesting concept, though it's not going to replace an iPad in any serious regard. When the laptop is folded into Tablet mode, the keyboard is on the opposite side. It's inset and so it doesn't really impair your usage, but at 13 inches, it's a bit large to use as a dedicated tablet. However, it's an absolute godsend on long airplane flights, especially if you're in the middle seat with the person in front of you leaning all the way back. I've not used Tent Mode yet myself, but I can foresee it as a good option for presentations down the line. The Yoga isn't full HD, but close (1600x900), so if viewing 1080p video on your machine is important, it's worth keeping in mind. The Yoga comes with a full-sized HDMI input with full audio/video support, great for watching videos and playing games on your TV.

    GAMING

Speaking of games, I didn't expect much out of the internal Intel 4000 chipset. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it able to run Bioshock Infinite even when my aging gaming system was chugging and crashing. It runs games like Infinite and Borderlands 2 at low or lowest quality settings but still looks good and is still playable, especially in such a small form factor. Framerate is solid and consistent with little indication of slowdown. The laptop does heat up pretty quickly in gaming issues, not to the point of overheat, but to the point of discomfort if the Yoga is on your lap. The touchscreen interface doesn't work with everything so well, but I was surprised how well Neverwinter Nights (a very old game) worked in Tablet mode.

    WINDOWS 8

This might be the biggest hurdle to overcome as a Yoga user. If you're not familiar with Win8, as I was when I first used the laptop, it may be a jarring experience. Win8 has both "Desktop" and "Tablet" versions of apps, so be careful when you download software like Skype, as the Tablet version of the app is a separate and truly different experience. I barely use the Windows App Store since getting the Lenovo, so there may be some cool apps down the line that take advantage of the tablet interface. I did play with FoxNow, and use the Tablet version of Netflix, and both run quite well. At the time of this writing, Win8 doesn't have a classic start button, requiring you to either use their Metro-based Start Screen (a beautiful but fairly useless feature on a laptop) or get an aftermarket add-on that restores the start button. I have heard that Win 8.1 will restore the start button, so this issue will shortly become moot. Otherwise, if you've worked in Windows 7/Vista, you should be fine.

    BATTERY

I'm able to run between 3-5 hours of battery life, which is primarily dependent on whether I'm a) using the machine at full brightness and b) playing games. For office work, I can take the laptop from meeting to meeting and maintain a charge all morning without needing to plug in. But if you're on a long flight from NY to California, it won't make it the whole way without a recharge.

    OVERALL

As an office worker who likes to game, the Yoga is a great package. It's lightweight, fast, and dependable. While I struggled with Win8 early on, the Lenovo's surprising amount of processing power and speed won me over. If you're looking for a new Windows based system, I'd definitely recommend it.

Cons: Operating system freezes regularly, so you have to restart it. i think it has to do with the 360 degree rotation of screen and disabling keyboard automatically. I found a lot of complainy posts in Lenovo forum with basically no helpful solution from Lenovo.

Pros: very powerful, light, beautiful and slick. Good screen, keyboard and touch pad.

Maybe I was unlucky and mine had hardware issues. I returned it.

I used the Yoga for 8 days based on Wirecutter's review as "best laptop" . I have a Dell win7 laptop at work and a Macbook Air at home, and I was hoping to replace the Dell as it's too heavy to lug around all the time from meeting to meeting and on the road.

After 8 days, I just returned the Yoga for a full refund

I found the tablet mode unusable as the Yoga is too big and more importantly, too hot, to use as a tablet.

I tried to use the stand mode at work, but it just never seemed appropriate in meetings; normal laptop mode was always a better choice.

The audio quality is bad. I thought it wasn't great on first impression, so I did a song-to-song comparison with my Macbook Air. The MBA has significantly better bass, and the Yoga tended to distort even before max volume.

The trackpad is very unresponsive compared to my MBA. It would blank out for a second, then cut back in.

Regarding Win8: I didn't like it, though I I tried hard to adjust. I did find some nice keyboard shortcuts to jump to all apps, search, jump to desktop etc. Overall though, I', sticking with Win7 until Modern mode is better integrated: for example, the "What apps are open now" view treats Desktop as a single app, under which your running desktop applications are hidden. MS recommended I use CNT-ALT-DEL to see what applications are running on my PC. Weak.

You should also disable sideswipes as the Yoga's poor trackpad made a left to right trackpad movement inadvertently invoke full screen app switching (from which there is no escape key) Also, the right to left screen swipe to bring up the Charms always required two swipes to activate.

Touchscreen on a laptop = smudged laptop screen most of the time.

I did like the body material, and build quality was OK, though it was very heavy. Also, flashing "I'm sleeping" light is so 2009.
I did like boot speed and processor speed.

Final moan: the official Yoga13 sleeve is too tight. It takes two hands and concerted effort to pull out the laptop, maybe it would have stretched.

Next hope: A Samsung Book 9 or similar.
