Product Description

The Cat in the Hat has something mysterious in his hat and wants you to play along!. Get ready for multi-sensory fun as you and your friends use your eyes, ears, fingers, and nose to figure out what’s inside! Use items from around the house—is it a toy car, an apple, a toothbrush? No two games are ever the same!

Silly and creative

Use the mystery hat!
Social, creative play!
In this dynamic game, one player, the Hat Master, hides a household object—an orange, a sock, a small toy, it could be anything—inside the hat. The other players use questions, clues, and the hat’s fun interactive exploratory features to discover what’s inside! Is it something we eat? What room does it belong in? Try feeling the hat with your elbows, poking your finger through a hole, or looking at the object through the magic crystalline window for clues!

How to play, snapshot!
Shuffle the cards put them face down in rows. Choose a Hat Master to put a household object inside the hat. Make sure they keep it super secret! On your turn, flip over two cards; choose one of the two cards. If it’s a Question card, ask the Hat Master the question on the card. If it’s an Action card, explore the hat according to the instructions on the card. Now you can guess what the Mystery Object is; if you’re not right, it’s the next Guesser’s turn! If one of the Guessers correctly guesses the Mystery Object, they win. If the Guessers go through all the cards without being able to guess correctly, the Hat Master wins!

My 4 year old granddaughter loved this game. It was great and getting her to think about what was in the hat. She caught on pretty quickly. We played it by just putting objects in the hat then drawing the cards that asked the questions. It was exciting watching her figure things out. I was so impressed that a game was available with such a high level of thinking skill. Great purchase.

I am giving this game only 2 stars because there are no objects to hide in the hat that are included with the game. In order to use it, I now have to go out and buy little objects to hide inside the hat. The idea is very cute, but it is sitting on the bookshelf in my office, going unused, which is a total waste of money. If I had known that I had to supply the objects, I would never have bought this game.

This quickly became a favorite game of my kids. It keeps them entertained easily for an hour at a time. The rules are simple enough for my 9, 8, and 7 year old to play unassisted, though of course they love to play with mom and dad best! We play a version of this game in the car (more like a "What Am I?" with yes or or questions, to figure out what we are thinking of) so I figured this would be a fun alternative for at home, and there is definitely an added tactile benefit to this version of the game.

I do, however, have a couple recommendations for the way the quality of this game could be improved.
    1) The hat. It came bent out of shape and that hasn't improved with use. I understand the benefit of it being made from fabric, but it's a bit awkward. I've had "real" hates (that you can wear) in the Cat in the Hat style, and their structure was far superior. Something like that would be great here.
    2) The box it comes in. This really needs improvement. It ARRIVED messed up, with the plastic corner (not shown in the picture) bent down, so that the box never really closes. The plastic is glued in, but not very well. I would recommend making the entire box of cardboard, and sturdier. We keep our games in their original boxes when not playing, and this is disappointing. We also are used to the superior structure and quality of the Peaceable Kingdom games.

Neither of these things have detracted from the enjoyment of the game, but I still feel that manufacturer should always seek to provide the best quality to their customers. It shows they care about us, and while in reality I know they only care about our money, they are more likely to get that money by acting like they care.

We've had this game for a year now. My 4 and 6 year old children still love it, and it is popular with friends who come to play as well. It generates lots of giggles about how creative and silly they can get with the objects that they hide in the hat. They learn deductive reasoning skills as a bonus.

This game is JUST cards & the hat. I thought it would have objects in the hate to guess what they were. Very disappointed.

My daughter is 2.5 years old and loves Dr. Seuss. She likes the hat and wants to play the game but she gets a frustrated because she doesn't fully understand the questions. I thought that might be the case but we will try it again when she's a little older and has a broader vocabulary. For now, she uses the hat to play pretend magician. It's a cute game and I will look forward to playing it in the future.
