- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2013The two female sockets are so close together side by side, I don't have any USB plug or dongle narrow enough to fit two plugs in at once! Useless...
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2014Great little duo USB hub - not cheap but works great including with my wireless mouse. I have two of these and they both are terrific. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2013Yes I did see the picture, so my bad. The two ports are so close together that no two of the USB 3 flash drives that I have can be placed in the Hub at the same time. This defeats the purpose I purchased it for. I suppose if two devices with USB 3 cables were connected then this Hub would be of value.
For my purpose it is a loser. More forethought from the designers to add space between the ports could have greatly increased the utility and applicability of this product.
I have USB 2 flash drives that will fit in the two ports, but USB 2 hubs are cheaper and heck I own some of them already.
I will not return it because it was my mistake, but if you are wanting to use Corsair Voyager or SanDisk Extreme USB 3 sticks forget being able to plug any two of these or one of these and anything else into the other port.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2012I'm content with this because it does the job, and it's very compact for travel. However, when I use it to connect my mouse, I sometimes get delay. I'm using a ASUS UX31A.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2013This is a great little hub that works with my usb 2 & 3 devices (even having enough power for me to use my passport 2tb drive). I agree that the ports are tooclose together, making the use of 2 usb sticks a challenge, but its small and doesnt need an external power supply so things mostly balance out in my view.
Its the only way I can use the Supersonic Magnum 128gb usb stick with my bluetooth mouse on my laptop which has only 2 ports which are close together (dell xps12).
4 out of 5 stars - subtracting 1 for the closeness of the usb ports.
If the device was more squared off instead of tapered towards the end that has the usb ports there would be less of an issue, something to look into for version 2.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2013The sockets are too close together and prevents using 2 flash drives from being connected at the same time. I have 3 different flash drives from 3 different manufacturers and they all have basically the same dimensions, but because of the spacing of the sockets, only 1 can be plugged in at a time... What a disappointment that the manufacturer did not realize this limitation.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2013I use my laptop as a key component to my photography around the world. The size of RAW photos and video footage these days is enormous and offloading gigabytes over USB3.0 with a card reader (which this device is not) is the only way to go. Likewise, moving large amounts of data to my USB3.0 hard disk is the only way to keep my laptop's 150GB SSD well organized. My problem is that I would often rather move data directly from my card reader to the USB 3.0 hard drive directly...
So voila! The StarTech ST2300CUSB3 compact 2 port hub! It fits anywhere, weighs next to nothing, has a very small footprint and it has been very reliable. Now I don't have to move my files twice (CF to computer, computer to external hard drive).
The other thing I wondered about is how badly the speed of file transfers would be affected through one USB3.0 port, where I'm reading gigabytes into memory at the same time as I'm writing them back out. My tests showed that even in this situation, IO is plenty fast and file transfers remained satisfactorily quick.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2013I bought this hub because i have a USB 3.0 Blu-Ray drive that requires the use of TWO USB ports. The cable on my Blu-Ray drive is too short to reach the 2 UBS on my Macbook Air, ports which are located on opposite sides of the laptop. This hub is the perfect solution. I plugged in the Blu-Ray drive into the hub and it was up and working. I was worried it wouldn't be able to draw enough power from the hub, but it worked perfectly. Highly recommended if you need require USB 3.0 speed and need to change one USB port into two.

4.0 out of 5 stars USB Crowding!
The usb ports that branches out should be made another 3-5mm 1/4" apart. Reducing the requirement of adding a short usb extension to add clunky ubs thumb drives. Still great device

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Great quality and works perfectly. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the LEDs are very bright, particularly the two blue ones but in my case it didn't matter at all

1.0 out of 5 stars Produit inutilisable

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough space between the two ports
Heavy for traveler. I am asking this question: why only 2 ports ?
I use the small 4 ports also from starteck instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars USB3.0 port
Useless! At first worked well, after two weeks one channel would occasionally not work, now after five weeks total failure!
