This mattress manages to feel really soft yet be supportive. I use it on an adjustable bed and together they're great. I'd personally like it a little firmer.

I bought this mattress about a year and a half ago, and I really regret it only one specific reason, that the mattress weakens far too much in the places that you sleep. I weigh 140 lbs, and I am single so I sleep alone, and I only use my bed for sleeping (I don't watch TV or play on laptops while on my bed). I also rotate the bed every 3 months so that I am not sleeping in the same spot all the time. I noticed the mattress becoming less firm very quickly (as in one week-two weeks of ownership), however, at first it just seems normal, like I am breaking in the mattress just a bit. You can tell because even within 2 weeks, you can already tell that the places that you've spent the most time on will be ever so slightly less firm than the middle of the mattress, where no one sleeps. You would not notice this problem so early without being able to compare the two parts of the mattress. It was not until about 4-6 months in that I started to realize that the middle of the mattress (the place where I do not sleep) was significantly firmer than the two sides of the mattress. I kept hoping that the "wear in" process was over, but it continues to get worse. I keep hearing about "valleys", but I feel that might be a little misleading, as I do not notice any sagging (aka "impressions") in the mattress. I need to really be clear about this, because the warranty covers you if you have impressions, but because it appears to be the middle layer of firmness (not the memory foam itself) you won't really notice anything wrong with the bed unless you are laying down in it, which means that the warranty is probably never going to protect the problem that people are having with the mattress. If no one was laying down on the mattress, you would never know that anything is wrong with it. It's only when you lay down and feel the ridiculous difference in firmness that you can tell there is a problem. It sort of feels like you are sleeping in a bowl because of this. Again, this was all noticeable 4-6 months into using the mattress to a 140 lb person. I have recently started sleeping in the middle of the mattress just try and to even it out. I am hoping that I am able to even out a bit, but honestly this is just ridiculous, I shouldn't have to do this. I feel very ripped off. To have it in poor condition from normal use, even while taking care of it, in less than 2 years is absolutely unacceptable. Please beware, do not buy this mattress.

I do have a theory that the destiny mattress is probably the worst for this issue because it does not appear to be the memory foam/cooling gel (top layer of mattress) that are degrading. It's the mid layer, which is the "firm" layer that is degrading. Since the destiny is mostly made up of middle layer, the problems are probably appearing quicker for me as I own a destiny bed. If you got the Vibrant or Elation mattresses, you might not notice the problem nearly as much, and it would hopefully take longer to degrade the mid layer as well. I can't say for sure, because owners of the other styles also report degrading firmness.

Lastly, I want to address some other things. Yes, there is a slight chemical smell when you first receive the bed. I noticed it, but it did not bother me at all and was completely gone in a day or so, let's just call it a week tops. Also I did have some heat issues, particularly in the summer. The mattress did get quite hot, which bothers me, however I put down one of those super soft plush fleece blankets between me and the mattress and it completely solved the problem. Honestly, if it weren't for the rapidly degrading firmness of the mattress this would be an awesome product, and it's a shame that this one problem is such a big one.

This was a warranty replacement for a Sealy innerspring mattress where a spring poked a hole out the side after only 18 months. I decided no more springs so I paid a small upcharge for this mattress, not even knowing what it felt like to lie on.

If you like a firm mattress, this is for you; yet it is not as hard as sleeping on the floor would be. The top 2-3" is memory foam so you will sink into that part of the mattress, yet the 6" of core underneath is firm. So for me it's the best of both worlds. I got the mattress only since my box spring (foundation) of the other Sealy didn't have any issues. This will also work on a platform bed or one of those adjustable motorized foundations like they always show with the Temperpedic ad.

This did not arrive like some foam mattresses do, all compressed up in a cardboard box so UPS can deliver and you have to wait for it to decompress. This Sealy Optimum Destiny arrives by a truck and wrapped in clear plastic like an innerspring mattress - mine was delivered by United Van Lines, the moving company. Not being compressed means you can immediately place it on the frame/foundation and sleep on it without waiting 1 or 2 days.

This had a foam odor like most do, but it dissipated within 24 hours; I have a very sensitive nose and I'm allergic to a lot of scents but this didn't bother me. I kept the sheets off and the window open until it was time to go to bed and by the next day no odor at all. The tag that comes with it says the odor will go away and it is non-toxic.

If you've never slept on a memory foam mattress, it does take some getting used to it. The old-style innerspring mattress kind of boosted you up and off but memory foam makes you feel like a dead weight when you try to get up off it. At the same time, this dead weight feel helps to induce a comfortable sleep when you lie down. You also cannot feel your partner tossing/turning or when he/she gets up.

This mattress comes with a 10 year warranty.

I wanted to add one other thing about mattress warranties. I read online that Sealy catches a lot of flack on warranty issues (probably the other companies do also but since I was dealing with Sealy, I didn't read about the other companies)...like they try to get out of honoring claims. I had no problems at all from the time I filed my claim along with photos I took, one phone call from Sealy to find out what mattress I wanted instead, and then 3 weeks for delivery. A very smooth process but I followed the rules! Keep your old receipts, keep the silk tag (if there is one) on your mattress along with the Do Not Remove This Tag labels. Don't spill things on your mattress, rotate on a regular basis. If you do these things and have a problem down the line, Sealy should honor your claim.

When we first received this bed we were surprised that it did not fill in the metal frame the way our previous spring mattress had. The first 2 months it was wonderful. We bought it from Mattress Firm and went to them before the 90 days were up with our concern that we could already start to feel impressions. They noted it on our file. A few months went by and the impressions became greater. We started having really bad back pain and neck pains. We felt like we were sleeping in a hole! We tried flipping the mattress around (as you can not flip it over) and we could still feel them.
My husband and I are both "thin" people. There is no reason for this mattress to be losing all of the middle firmness in UNDER A YEAR! Mattress Firm had a company come out to inspect the mattress (which we had to pay for!) and told us the impressions needed to be 3/4 of an inch which we were told by the sales manager was 1/8 of an inch. They inspect the bed of course, when there is no weight on the bed. As soon as you push down on it you can feel there is no support from inside the mattress it is breaking down from the inside out! There is also a large hump in the middle where neither of us sleep. Sealy obviously knows this and is very strategic with the wording of there warranty. We feel robbed spending this much money on a mattress only to have it deteriorate before our very eyes in under a year!! Please DO Not buy this bed!
