WOW! Incredible PJ set, couldn't ask for anything more

So I bought a cheap Squier Precision PJ bass... nice guitar, great neck, good action, etc, but the J pickup was very noisy, the P was just Meh, and the pickups blended HORRIBLY (at times completely strangling each other, very unpredictable sound depending on how they were blended.) Eh, waddaya expect for a sub-$300 bass, right?

I tried a lot of different pickups (including a Fender noiseless J), pots, caps, shielding, blend pots, etc. etc. but it all still sounded like meh (at best).

AND THEN CAME AGUILAR. I finally decided, what the heck, I'll try these.

THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!!!! The sound is true and clear, and they blend just PERFECTLY (currently using standard V-V-T wiring as per Aguilar's diagram). It now sounds just like I always imagined a PJ bass should be like. I can't even imagine a better sound or better blend performance.

And QUIET like you can't believe. Even running just the P by itself is somehow quieter than the other P's I've tried. It's not utterly and completely noiseless of course, but it's at least as quiet or quieter than any pickup on any bass I've ever heard.

Also they have a beautiful matte-ish finish and silver-embossed Aguilar logos... very classy. Nice to have a matching, good-looking set after trying so many frankenpickups.

These could be the answer to your prayers! Thanks, Sweetwater!

Thunder Pups!

I bought these pups as an upgrade to Fender's Yosemite pups in a brand new Satin Lake Placid Blue American Performer Precision P/J. To be honest I was quite nervous about doing this to such a new and expensive instrument. Not only was I replacing the pickups, but I was dumping the original pots and Greasebucket tone circuit with a custom made control set that I had made to order from a private individual. All that was left was for me to be brave enough to do the swap and solder 5 wires.

I use the bass for recording in an all originals, 3 piece project I'm involved in and I had to do something about the dreaded 60 hz cycle hum that can rear it's ugly head in single coil pickups such as the jazz bridge pup in this bass once you reach a certain volume level. These pickups did the trick. Like Fender's split P pup, this pickup is split into two halves that cancel each other's interference out, which means no hum. They just do it and leave it inside one pick up housing whereas the split P pup design Fender is famous for is in two separate housings.

But the magic doesn't stop there. These pups are also very hot, the DCR is in the 10 - 11 range I think, which can lead to a loss in articulation in your sound. But because of the Alnico V magnets they are still very articulate even at high output. For strings I'm using D'Addario Tapewounds which a lot of people complain about being dull sounding. Not with these pickups. They absolutely sing and so much so that I'm actually backing off of the volume levels on the pickups themselves. I have spent years and $$$ chasing tone and these pups give me the tone I need to cut through the mix unlike anything I've had before them.

I knew Aguilar made good products. But if everything they make are like these pups, then they make great products! Aguilar will be at the top of my list in the future for any pickup replacement needs that I might have.

Addendum to my previous 5-star review!

Just wanted to follow up: I have now put these noiseless Aguilar PJ pickups on TWO sub-$ Squier PJ basses, and it rescued them both.

I wanted two "identical" basses that didn't cost an arm and a leg, to try out different strings, have a backup, etc.

It baffles my mind why Fender does not sell a packaged set of noiseless PJ pickups. With all the PJ basses out there, they would sell a TON of these. You literally cannot BUY a set of Fender Noiseless PJ pickups. Hey, more sales for Aguilar!!! These Aguilar pickups are the real deal and sound very, very sweet and VERY quiet. I can now dial in any tone I'm looking for. And at a great price point!!!

I've switched both my basses to the V-B-T pots configuration per Aguilar's diagram (they have excellent diagrams online) and I couldn't be happier! GREAT JOB AGUILAR!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!

Buttery tone, no noise

Replaced the pickups in a Yamaha BB234 to fix a noisy single-coil J bridge pickup. These are dead silent when not playing. They are smooth and wonderful full vintage tone when you are playing. P pickup is the same renowned 4P-60 pickup also available by itself.

Used the V.V.T. schematic available from the Aguilar web site to wire these up. Note that they did not come with foam blocks or mounting screws, so if you don't have these from the pickups you're replacing, be sure to order those as well.

Perfect Upgrade

Wow! Once I got these pickups installed and fired up I finally got the Sound I was craving. My Fender American Ultra Precision just did not have that classic P-bass sound, in fact is was just dull, but with these pickups it has been transformed. The combination of these pickups and my Aguilar Tonehammer 700 is killer. Thanks to Andy I would never have found the sound I needed and am inspired by. He knew exactly what I was looking for. Shipping was lightning fast not to mention the deal I received! Love it!!!!
