- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2014I have waited about a month to give my 5 star rating, just to make sure there were no product flaws. Here is my verdict:
Pros:
- well constructed
- beautiful soft finish with wooden tops
- adjustable grinder for different salt/pepper coarseness
- very easy to grind
- grinding mechanism at the top, so you don't get the mess on the table as with other grinders
- holds a fair amount of desired spice
- Price - I saw these in a boutique store for $130
- easy to wipe down
Cons:
- if handled with oily finger marks, they show up (but easily wiped off)
All in all, I saw these before I bought them and was very excited when they arrived. They are well constructed and look nice when placed on a table. Most visitors didn't actually know what they were though. They are nice and soft under the hands and the modern neutral colours go with most things. Would buy them again if anything happened.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2019As other reviewers have mentioned, the rubbery surface breaks down and becomes tacky and horrible to touch. I have only ever wiped them down with a wet soft cloth, and they have been sticky feeling almost the entire time I’ve owned them. With the amount of use these have, which is barely any, this should not be happening. Today, I decided to take them apart and clean them with dawn dish soap, thinking it was some kind of build up, and I maybe haven’t scrubbed them hard enough, but when I went to dry them with a cotton towel, they’re all the sudden sticky again! It’s like they’re made of fly paper! Gross! These grinders are not cheap, so the company needs to use a different material. I know there are certain kinds of plastic that are matte, and would not degrade like this. If you’re going to charge this much for grinders, you should listen to complaints and fix the problem! I want to love these grinders, they look absolutely gorgeous on my counter, but I don’t want to touch them!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2016disappointed. yes it looks awesome but it's a mess to use it. real salt is good for health and has lot more magnesium. and it attracts moisture. this bugger frequently gets jammed and you have to bang at back to push real salt out. but wait... if that worked I would have no issue but the joint is so feeble that you need to be very careful or else it will open and then you have to clean all up.!
internals are plastics.! yuck. I hope it has steel stem though I am not sure... so if it falls then story over :( I have to be really careful with it and I really really hate feeble lock. so much so that if you try to pick up from upper part it may open and the mess again.! and I did clean up the locking mechanism but it is feeble plastic that probably can lock only 1/5 the size of it... so I had to fill it real low like less than 1/4. and no I don't allow guests to use it because they might pick it up from top half - natural for anyone - and that can cause it to open and might make a big mess if it opens halfway during flight to plate. aah.! I really wanted to like it but it is just not recommendable.!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2018I first discovered this grinder set on the Food52 blog and immediately fell in love. I was glad to see I could also purchase it here. When they arrived, I was a bit disappointed (hence the one star loss). They were the size I expected and the color I expected but I was hoping for a heavier weight. They are plastic and they really look it, too. I waited to use them as I let them sit in my dining room. I would pass by them daily to decide if I should keep them or return them. After a week or two of sitting there going unused, I filled them up with salt and pepper. They both grind beautifully and effortlessly. I love me some freshly ground pink Himalayan sea salt and black peppercorns on top of my dinner and I'm now content with keeping this set on my dining table.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2018These are just great! I was looking for a modern, simple design for grinding both salt and pepper and these are perfect. Feel wonderful in your hands and work great.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2015These look good on my counter, but after having them for about a year, a couple gripes: (1) The flat matte finish on the exterior shows stains and fingerprints easily. I tend to get my hands dirty when I cook, and every night I have to wipe down the oily fingerprints/sauce marks that I leave on the grinders. (2) As other reviewers have noted, there is really only one grind size, and it's large flakes. The twist function on the top of the grinder that is supposed to change the grind size doesn't appear to have any significant effect. I don't mind this, but if I was a serious cook, I'd need another pepper grinder for cooking to produce a smaller grind. (3) These are quite large, and look disproportionate in my small kitchen. This isn't necessarily a downside -- just be sure to read the specs before purchasing.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2022I never write reviews, but I do have to warn others of the sticky residue problem with these grinders. They look great (especially initially) but almost immediately begin to develop a sticky residue that both looks nasty (especially on the white/off-white grinder) and feels gross to the touch (which is not what you want when dealing with food). I've tried cleaning with soft sponge and soap & water as recommended by the manufacturer (no luck) and even tried putting them through the dishwasher as a last resort (no luck). For the price you pay for the design, it is unacceptable that it is impossible to keep them clean.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2013I saw these at a specialty design shop in CA for a lot more than they were here on Amazon, so I bought them. I love the design and they function extremely well too. My husband (who generally could care less about what things look like and doesn't like to spend money frivolously) actually commented on how much he liked them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ein Klassiker skandinavischer Formensprache!
Und las but not least: das Design.

4.0 out of 5 stars Designklassiker

1. Design

1.0 out of 5 stars Leider minderwertig
