I had tried one horizontal spiralizer before and returned it because I couldn't get the suction feet to stick to my textured countertop. Instead, I went with a vertical spiralizer that didn't need to be stuck to anything. I liked it, but found that the catch bowl for the veggies was too small to be practical. I had to empty it twice for every zucchini I spiralized. So here I am, back at a horizontal spiralizer. I purchased this one because it comes with 5 blades. This one can do things like angel hair type of vegetable noodles and curly fries in addition to the usual ones found with spiralizers. I was tempted to give this spiralizer 4 stars instead of 5 because it also does not stick to my textured counter, but the problem was my counter, not the spiralizer's so I give the spiralizer 5 stars and my counters 0 stars!!! So here is my solution, for those of you who have textured counters. I have a glass dining room table. I spiralize on that table instead of the counter. It works great. Other solutions are to suction the spiralizer to a baking sheet or do it on your glass cooktop. I thought that going to a vertical spiralizer was the answer, but it wasn't. As for the spiralizer itself, it is very straightforward. You put one flat end, cut by you, if necessary, against the spiked disk at the end of the crank. There is a round place where you put the other end opposite the pushing spiked disk. The Briefton's Spiralizer can take as much as a 10" long vegetable between the two ends. Once your vegetable is secure, simply turn the handle while gently pushing forward and lo and behold, veggie spirals!!! (do NOT forget to put a dish in front of the spiralizer to catch your spirals!!!)
If you have children (and spouses acting like children) who do not want to eat their veggies, I have found that they all universally love veggie noodles. You don't even have to disguise them. Maybe it's the shape novelty, maybe it's because of the crunch you get when lightly sautéing the noodles, whatever the reason...THEY'RE ENJOYING EATING THEIR VEGGIES!!!! (Make sure you have your heart medicine ready because you might feel faint when you see that happening)
If you are trying to lose weight and just can't get rid of that pasta yearning, I can't begin to tell you how good zucchini noodles with vodka sauce tastes...and chicken parmesan? OMG. SO good. It's also wonderful for people who are gluten intolerant. I guarantee you will not miss your pasta.
This is one of the best kitchen gadgets I have purchased...and I just love gadgets. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this tool.

Still needs some work, customer service excellent!
UPDATE: I have added back a couple of stars for the swift and courteous customer service I have received since contacting the company. They're refunding the purchase price. On viewing the instructional video customer service linked me to, I can see that they placed a sweet potato - coincidentally the same vegetable I tried - a little differently than the flyer in the package described. They also had peeled their potato - a difference that shouldn't matter, but still a difference. Since they also used a sweet potato in their demo video, I am convinced that they knew and intended that their product could be used with firmer vegetables. This means it is a bit more likely that I got an accidentally defective spiralizer than that the product was poorly designed. Kudos to Briefton for a swift and congenial response to my issues! -=--=- I finally got around to trying this out after a month. I followed the instructions for assembly, I followed the instructions for preparing a sweet potato to cut into angel hair noodles. First of all, I had real trouble getting the flat cut surface of the sweet potato stuck on to the vegetable holder. The spike wouldn't go in far enough. I even took the assembly off the base, held it with the potato pointing up, and used the bottom of a heavy bowl to hammer the potato on. I finally had to hold the potato against the cutting blades with my left hand, and turn the handle to start the cutting with my right hand, to get the potato stabilized. At first, I got the angel hair noodles I hoped for. Then the vegetable holder tore through the end of the potato and started spinning uselessly without turning the potato. I removed the potato, turned it around to give the holder a fresh end to grab, and started again. I wound up doing this about a half dozen times. By the time I had about 2 inches of the potato left, I realized I was no longer getting angel hair noodles. The teeth that cut the separations between the noodles had started bending. I kept turning, figuring at least I was getting flat spirals, and I wouldn't waste the potato. Then the spikes tore through the potato again. I gave up with about an inch of potato still uncut. I gave one star because, well, it did cut the potato in a way that I never could have by hand. In several ways, in fact, without even changing the blade. I didn't give it any more stars because the blade that I wanted the most out of this was damaged enough by the first use that it won't make the cuts I want. And because it was exceedingly difficult to situate the potato on the holder, and to keep it there.
