I've always viewed art as a form of communication and it seems that there are many things within us that speak most eloquently through artistic expression. The act of creation strikes me as the most honest way in which we humans can offer a glimpse of ourselves to the world at large. The creative process also serves as a way for one to understand ones own psyche and give voice to things within oneself that are not readily understood.

I enjoy creating coloring books because it brings together the creativity of two individuals into one piece of work and it's very rewarding for me to see how my work is interpreted and explored by others. The range of coloring expressions I've seen over the years has been impressive and I always enjoy creating new designs and seeing new interpretations from my fellow humans.

These designs are great fun--complex enough to be engaging, but repetitive enough to be relaxing. I have dozens of adult coloring books, and find the Creative Haven line to be excellent. The paper is only acceptable--you will need to put blank paper under the page if you are using markers--but the designs are on the front side only, so that works out. I have not had a problem with colors bleeding. The price of their books is also very good.

This particular book has the added bonus of 3D glasses to view the designs. I had no idea that viewing designs would work in 3D, but doing this will make you smile. It works with other books too, most satisfactorily with geometric patterns. I enjoyed that aspect so much that I ordered 3D glasses to give to my daughter (who is responsible for getting me started with coloring). I wanted clear lens like the ones that came with the book, instead of the red and green lens, and best ones I found also came from Amazon--Sunshine Joy 3D Glasses.

This book takes coloring to a new dimension! I purchased this for my 10 year old niece who likes art but doesn't do a lot of coloring. We had a blast with this book. The 3D element made it fun for both of us. We alternated between using the 3D glasses as we were going along and waiting to view the page with the glasses once we were finished. I recommend using Sharpies or other markers as you want a bold, crisp finish for optimum 3D effects. Only one sided prints, so just make sure to slip a blank page under the one you are coloring.

This is my first Techellations book and WOW! The designs in this book are the most intricate of all my adult coloring books. Seriously, some of these patterns are so tiny, you want to use only the sharpest pencils or my favorite, gel pens to color with. It takes me several days to color one pattern in this book and I find it relaxing and challenging. I have a hard time picking out which design I want to color next so I let my husband pick it out for me – problem solves. If you're tired of coloring pictures that a 10 year old would probably enjoy, and you want a real adult coloring book, try this one. It's by far my favorite coloring book.

I just started getting into using the "adult coloring books" (as a way to kill time while sick in bed with a chronic illness). For my first attempt, I purchased three different "Creative Haven" books, and this was most definitely my favorite of the three. I h ave enjoyed this purchase, not only for the wonderfully fun and intricate pattern designs, but also for the "3-D" aspect of the book.
Upon first opening the book, you are shown on the inside cover a quick and easy to understand way of how to color the designs so they show up as 3-D when viewing them with the free and included 3-D glasses. It explains which colors will "pop out" and which ones tend to stay in the background. Pay attention to that, because I've found that when viewing your picture while still in progress, it will not always seem to follow those "rules". But, when finished, your picture will seem to correct and show up the say it should when using their color guide.
Not only is there an instruction for your 3-D coloring inside the front cover, but on the back inside cover is a small color guide which shows (when viewed with the glasses) which colors pop-out or stay in the back ground. I've also found, though, that not all shades of a particular color will follow the rules or color guide, even on the finished product. For example, as the rules state, "warm colors will "pop" more that cool colors". But, when using either a warm or cool type color, if using a darker shade as compared to a pastel shade, they will behave differently. What I've done with each of my different color modes (using gel pens, markers, or colored pencils) is to set up an example page for each one so I can see how each color reacts when viewed with the glasses. As I've previously stated though, that does not always work, as for example, while one color will appear to pop-out on the example page, when viewing that color in a finished picture, it may appear to stay in the background (this is not always the case though).
As the book suggests, you just need to experiment with each color and each color mode to see what works and what doesn't.

This is a great coloring book for the meticulous colorist. The motions are akin to knitting a scarf, crocheting, completing a jigsaw puzzle, making a cross-stitch, etc. Repetition allows you to color these while watching TV, listening to the radio, etc. The designs are rigid, although quite kaildascopey and beautiful once complete. You can use the cardboard 3D glasses that come with the book to see your patterns come to life. I think it is great that the artists included the glasses as they are motivating for you to finish a piece and also examine your progress.

One thing this book will teach you is three dimensional molding. There are tips included describing how you can make your designs “pop.” By following a pattern, or motif, throughout your coloring, you can create intricate tiled patterns. Warm colors are drawn forward, while cool colors recede into the background.

Creative individuals will find themselves very restricted by the design, as I have been quite impatient using this book. I can’t say that I’ve finished a single page. But this is my preference, and for others it might be the most soothing, best option. I recommend markers for this book, because you are looking to make very solid shapes and are not involved in shading gradients or blending colors.

Bottom line: It will take you a long time to color these. They are great for those who like meditative and repetitive motions. Some people may find the designs too restrictive and frustrating.
