This will depend upon your comfort level, strength, and health.

you could begin with a 20 lb one but use an iron one instead of this cement laden kettlebell. this is the size of a 50 lb iron kettlebell which is difficult to swing... at least for me...

Depends upon your strength. For most women and quite a few men it is very hard if not impossible to do exercises like straight side and forward laterals, certain triceps work and other exercises. My suggestion visit some store that has them out. You do not have to buy there but try some of the exercises with various weight then see if you can handle them properly.

I have been training regularly since 1968 and at age 63 can still seated press a pair of 105 pound dumbbells simultaneously for several reps.

To answer your question, no I don&#39;t think it would hurt to go with the 20lb kettlebell. It of course depends on your ability level. However, if I do any type of free weight workouts, I typically use the 15lb dumbells. This specific kettlebell is significantly cheaper than the 15lb kettlebell, which is why I orded it (even though I was not sure if it would be too heavy). I found that it is the perfect weight for kettlebell swings and and leg exercises (lunges, squats, etc). If you feel that the weight might be too light, I still think it is the best value for the money. You can always add more reps or take less time in between sets if you need to make it more challenging. This is really the lowest you will find a kettlebell of this size. Hope this info helps.

Using at full arm extension is &quot;heavier&quot; than you&#39;d think. With that, there should be no problem.

I just started with 15# and I think that is perfect. I bought two 15#s and love that weight for beginning.

20lbs is heavy to begin with if just beginning to use kettlebells. Exercises vary but would hate for you to pull something because it is too heavy!!

It depends on your ability and strength. Most important is your form on the particular activity you are doing. Always be mindful of your form. If your form is not correct that&#39;s were injuries can occur.

I think usually for women it&#39;s recommended to start with 10 or 15 lbs max if you&#39;re new to KB workouts.
Personally I mainly bought the 20 lbs for KB swings but for other movements 10 seems to plenty. (Doing the Windmill, for example, I cannot use the 20 without losing good form and possibly hurting myself!)

go to the store &amp; try one out. has to be a little challenging or will not benefit. really depends on body weight/size/weight lifting ability. too heavy &amp; you could hurt your back if not using good posture during exercise

20 lbs is a great place to start if you&#39;re 20-50 and never have done it before. You&#39;ll Soon grow into shape though. ;-). So you&#39;ll need to upgrade to more heavier ones.

Does anyone have a recommendation one way or the other as to if it would hurt anything to just go with the 20lbs to begin with.

I prefer cast iron. Simply because it will not chip or rub off. Vinyl may work better if you have wood or non-carpeted floors. In the event you would drop it. As for better for excursive, they both should be the same, as long as they are the same weight.

I like the vinyl it slides nicely through my hands.

I love it! it's very fun to use. I normally use it 3 times a week during my workouts. 15lbs is a great weight to gain moderate strength and tone up your body overall

Great for toning up!

Now I know the difference between the cast iron and the vinyl bells. Feels great, solid, just larger than I expected. Couldn't find CAP in the cast iron for this size, so went with this. Excellent delivery and good product for a great price at walmart.

It's a big bell!

Price is very reasonable and the delivery time was on point. Well made, smooth surface and no wobbles. I like the wide angle handle for two handed exercises and I have large hands. I had also ordered a 20 & 25 pound cast iron kb for me and I primarily got these (2- 10 pound kballs) because they are plastic and lighter for when my kids (10 & ll years old) want to use them. They are heavy enough for me to get a good workout. I like to extend my arms out and raise them up and down (and also holding them in place shoulder height), both in front of me and also on either side. I liked the reviews so that's why I got these. I've had them for about a week and I use them everyday.

The price for this kettlebell was the best I could find. It arrived very quickly and is well made . Included are exercises you can use with it. They include the exact same exercises recommended by my physical therapist. A great buy.
