Radial's JDV Mk5 is a high-performance, 2-input active direct box/preamp that lets you transition seamlessly from one instrument to another while optimizing your signal chain for any source. The JDV Mk5 is built like a tank (typical for Radial), with 100% discrete electronics and Class A circuitry with a zero-phase-canceling negative feedback front end. You also get Drag control load correction that lets you optimize the impedance applied to the pickup, along with extra rail voltage for copious headroom. The Radial JDV Mk5 delivers virtually zero harmonic, phase, and cross-point distortion for amazingly natural sound, with no coloration or artifacts.

The design brief for the Radial JDV Mk5 included the ability to handle any type of instrument. The JDV Mk5's Input-1 is ideally suited for both magnetic pickups and active instruments; it's also equipped with a balanced mic input with 48V phantom power to accept instrument-mounted condenser mics. Input-2 adds to the JDV Mk5 impressive versatility with a selectable 10 meg-ohm input that properly loads piezo transducers. Both inputs can be used simultaneously and mixed together using the JDV Mk5's front panel controls. They can then be phase aligned using the onboard Radial Phazer. The resulting signal is among the most natural-sounding acoustic-instrument reproductions we've heard at here at Sweetwater.

The JDV Mk5 sports additional features, including fully variable highpass filters on each channel to zap low-frequency resonance, easy-to-read LED level meters, transformer-isolated outputs that eliminate ground-loop-generated buzz and hum, and a +4dB line-level output for direct injection into your recording rig. A convenient front-panel switch lets you switch between channels; or you can do this via Radial's optional JR-2 remote control.
