Does this gate swing open in both directions?

No it is not magnetic, you have to pull the lever and shut it. easy lever tho.

No, but easy one hand open/close. You pull a lever over and lift on the door.

You have to physically latch the gate. It does not close on its own

No, you must retract a bolt with your thumb first then lift and swing the entire gate up to close. The gate locks when you release the spring loaded bolt. The bolt inserts into a hold that locks the gate in place.

You have to slightly lift the gate - U-shaped sleeve fits on top of the top rail. There is a spring-loaded latch that keeps it from opening unless you pull the latch back, but it's sensitive to how the compression fittings are adjusted. If the top is adjusted tighter than the bottom, it tends to slightly bow the top up causing the latch not to catch. Works fine for my purposes (pet gate), but may want to take extra care if used as baby gate.

I believe it is. The package includes permanent mounting cups, or you can just use the pressure pads. We only use the pressure pads and it works fine. No marks on the wall.

yes, I installed it, where I have nice oak surrounding the opening, and there is no apparent wear on the oak.

Yes. The gate mounts by expanding screw mounts on each side. The mounts have rubber pads that contact the door frame so there should be no marks of any kind.

It is just a pressure mounted gate so there should be no damage to your walls.

Yes it comes with screws for that option but it can also be held on by tention

We decided to get this gate to keep a new puppy within a certain area that had no carpeting while we house break her. But the area included a computer room, bathroom and kitchen as well as the front entry hallway. So, we needed something that can allow people to get through easily.
