Two of the brushes are very good for a smooth, natural application of eye make up, the other three are less than average!
4 out of 5 stars
Two of the brushes are very good for a smooth, natural application of eye make up, the other three are less than average!
Bought for £9.99 during Black Friday Deals this year. They are the genuine product that you can get (at a much higher price, may I add) at several shops on the high street. I am happy with the brushes. I've been using this kit every day since I got it and have found a regular job for two of the four brushes, the other three are just sitting in my make up drawer. On all five brushes the bristles are soft and leave no marks when I use them. The bristles bend easily, but they also get back to their original shape easily. I really like how it says the name of each brush on the handle - that makes it easy for me to know what each brush is meant to be used for, especially considering how many different brushes I have in my make-up drawer. Admit it, we've all been there - looking at a brush and thinking: what was it's exact application...?! Well this name on handle thing takes that confusion away, so two thumbs up for that :) Also, each brush has a flat back, so you can prop it up and it'll stay standing (if you've got the space/time/willingness to balance it after every use). I personally don't use this feature of any of the brushes, I just chuck them in the drawer for next time, but thought I might mention it. As you'd expect the main handle purple colour is a nice shimmery shade and the black is super easy to grip, so design wise Real Techniques has done very well.In terms of the black case that comes with the brushes - I'm not so impressed. It gets dirty very quickly and it's near impossible to clean it completely (you cannot put it in the wash). Also the brushes are held in place by a little black elastic: this has already gotten so stretched out of place that it no longer holds the brushes within the case. The only positive that I can think of, in terms of the case, is that it folds in half and there is a toggle that you can use to decide just how open (and hence propped up) you'd like it to be. So, in a way, the case converts into a stand, which is quite unique and original thing with packaging that I've not come across before. There was also a plastic piece that held the brushes in place, but that was thrown in the bin within two days of starting to use the brushes (as it really was a useless piece of plastic there to just make the brushes seem pretty when inside the plastic packaging in the shop). Now, in terms of each individual brush - I most often use the deluxe crease and the base shadow. They work particularly well in making sure your crease is well pigmented and your eye shadows are well blended together. I tend to use the brushes interchangeably as they are roughly the same size and roughly the same shape. Love both of the brushes equally and see them as a package deal - if I pick up to use one, I'll have to use the other too :)The other three brushes, sadly, do nothing for me. The brow brush I don't use as I leave my eyebrows natural. Tried to use this as a gel eyeliner (due to it's angled shape), but the line get too thick and I don't like it. So now this is left in the drawer to gather dust. The fine line brush, on the other hand, is too tiny and so does not get enough eyeliner on my eyelids. It's an odd shape as well - not pointed, not angled and not domed - just kind of straight... I don't know what they were going for with this brush, but whatever it was - it does not work! So this bush too has had to be left in the drawer to gather dust. The last - the accent brush - I am most disappointed with! I had such high hopes for this brush - that it'll be the miracle brush I am looking for in terms of highlighting the inner corners of my eyes. But - c'est la vie - it does diddly-squat!!! It picks up a lot of product (for the tiny shape and size that it is) and then does not deposit it on the eyelids at all. I truly don't know where it puts all the product that it gathers! The eye shadow seems to disappear on its way from the eye shadow palette to my eyelids! LOL! But honestly, I cannot accent anything with this brush - it just does not transfer the eye shadows onto the skin at all. So, so, so disappointed about that :(On the plus side for all five brushes no bristles have fallen off (touch wood). All the brushes are light to hold, easy to work with and straightforward to manoeuvre. All three qualities I look for in a great make up brush.I can recommend this kit to others (but not at full price) for the two larger brushes. The BASE SHADOW BRUSH & the DELUXE CREASE BRUSH REALLY ARE THE LOVELY AND SOFT EYE SHADOW BRUSHES EVERY MAKE UP AFICIONADO OUGHT TO HAVE IN THEIR KIT. The other three I could do without and also I've used better version of them in the past.P.S. I've included several pictures for you to see how the brushes came (this kit would make a lovely present) and what it looks like when open (including a close up of the name and head shape of each brush). Enjoy XD

These brushes are amazing, especially for the price. I've been using them for over a year now and they are still in perfect condition, no shedding and they wash up perfectly. They pick up product very well, are soft and there is a use for all of the brushes in this kit!

I don't follow the names on the brushes as I think it depends on your eye shape & size. I use each brush for the following:

    - "Deluxe crease" brush: applying transition colour to the crease & a little above as it buffs the colour out well due to it being dense

    - "Base shadow" brush: Crease and blending brush, it gives a precise application to deeper up your crease colour and is ideal for smaller eyes. It isn't too dense so it blends well and lightly so you aren't just buffing away all the product you just applied

    - "Pixel-point eyeliner" brush: I think this brush it far too thick for applying eyeliner as I like a thin and sharp winged eyeliner (as I'm sure most do) which this would never achieve, although it may be good for smoking out eyeliner or applying eyeshadow to set gel eyeliner - I haven't tried. I use it for applying eyeshadow under the lower lash line and applying the highlight shade on my inner eye & tear duct area as it fits perfectly.

    - "Accent" brush: I find this perfect for adding black eyeshadow to my tight line or along the lash line if I want an outline that's just that bit darker, it's also good for going under the lower lash line or filling in the outer edge of eyebrows if your's are thin like mine at the end.

    - "Brow" brush: This is the only brush I use for what it says, fills in my eyebrows really well and is at the perfect angle so that I can see what I'm doing, without my hand in the way.

As well as the great quality and shape of the brushes the case it comes with is PERFECT for storage, travelling or holding brushes upside-down when they have been washed to let them dry.

These brushes are great and I highly doubt that you'd be disappointed if you purchased them, for the price of one MAC, Sigma or Bobbi Brown brush you get a whole kit. I can't find a fault with these after all this time using them - I'm impressed.

I love these brushes. I read a few of the reviews and was a bit skeptical about ordering as a few people said that they were fake. They definitely aren't. My mum bought the exact same set at full price from Superdrug and they are EXACTLY the same. The writing doesn't rub off and they're a perfect set of brushes. I dont use the Fine Liner brush as I find it too thin to do anything - I dont tend to wear eyeliner very often and even when I do, they're usually eyeliners that come with applicators so I dont need this brush. The Deluxe Crease brush, on the other hand, is fantastic. Its so big and fluffy - I use it to apply base colour all over my lid rather than the Base Shadow brush and I also use it for bleding colours together. I find the base shadow brush is better for applying colours to the crease area. I thought the Brow Brush looked quite big, but I have rather big eyebrows which makes it parfect and so easy to apply powders. I use the Accent brush for applying colours under my lower lash line. Overall, its a perfect set of brushes with a great discount.

You know you are getting quality with Real Techniques, they are thoughtfully designed and well made and at a bargain price after my birthday I couldn't help treat myself.

The brushes are soft yet dense meaning they don't scratch but are firm enough to apply pigment in a defined manner without over spreading.
Included are 2 bigger fluffy brushes (one fat and flat, the other thinner and rounded point) which are great for general application and blending,
an accent brush which is great for adding definition especially to a smokey eye,
a 'pixel point' eyeliner brush which is the only let down of the set as it's not as tiny as the name might suggest- still it's good for adding highlights under the lash line
and the eyebrow brush which is fine as its intended purpose but also is great for applying wet shadow as eyeliner due to its extra firm line and sloping bristles.

Overall a nice set to start or add to a collection but the key is in its name, there are many other eye brushes which could have enriched this set but these are a great start to improving your application or technique before expanding your collection.
