- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2013I'm in love. If you're a hardcore gamer who needs the absolute best refresh rate for his or her robot-like eyes - this may not be the screen for you. It can have a 5ms or so bleed that can give moving images in games an odd looking contrast.'
However, as someone who plays games non-competitively for 6+ hours a day, it's a massive upgrade from my tiny 21 inch monitor. The difference has to be seen; it takes up most of my desk!
Pros: Size, Price, Vivid Colors, Back-lighting, Well-Constructed Stand, Power Button is lit for access in the dark, but also not visible from the front - a nice plus.
Cons: There's a 5ms or so bleed on moving images which is bad for super competitive gamers - if you're using this for flight sims or Team Fortress 2, you're probably safe. If you play top-tier Quake III Arena and UT2k4, maybe not. It may be a bit too big for some desks, actually, and that needs to be considered.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2014Great screen as general monitor and big. Colors are off greatly when compared to my higher end models but I have not tried to calibrate it much since its a secondary monitor my wife uses. This is not a good screen for gaming due to the colors and the low response time. I have played Borderlands on it and the ghosting and lag is noticeable whereas it is not on my other screens. Built in speakers are horrible but that is to be expected. Overall good monitor for general use at a decent price but if I could I would have bought something slightly better for more money.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2013I spent a lot of time reviewing monitors to replace a 25-inch LCD that I loved but finally capacitor-ed out after five years. I write a lot and need clear type so I had second and third thoughts about this unit: Not from reviews (what I read were very good) but because of my misgivings of a unit with such an excellent price.
But I went with it and kept in a back pocket a more expensive "plan B" if it didn't pan out. I shouldn't have worried so much. It was very good indeed! While I have no desire to test it with video games; (hey, I'm 65,) for my work, the screen is excellent, and needed very little tweaking. This is a "bright" monitor and brightness level (gamma and sharpness, with it,) needs to be toned down for normal to dark locations like mine. Actual color adjustments were minor as the unit, from the box, produced vivid and accurate enough color balance for my work. I do video, so I should know what a well set up monitor looks like. The NTSC color bars were extremely clean. I would recommend this screen to those who want something more than a 25". Also, this one let me forget entirely about wanting a more expensive 29-inch unit that might also require a new graphics card to gain the top resolution. This one is big enough, and with my years old graphics card, serves my needs as well as any I have had a chance to use. How's that?
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2013BenQ 27" LED monitor is a full-HD (1920x1020 resolution) monitor with built-in speakers and three inputs: HDMI, DVI, and VGA. An optional audio jack is also available in combination with the VGA input. At the recommended full-HD resolution the picture is bright and sharp, with decent (but not great) contrast. Keep in mind that this is a low-end inexpensive monitor. You could buy other 27" monitors with better pictures costing more than twice as much. For the price, I believe this is a very good value for the money.
When I received the monitor, I immediately set it up with and HDMI input. There was no signal. I said to myself: "another stupid monitor without auto HDMI detection". Then I pressed the menu button, so that I can select the HDMI option. Menu button was dead too! Just as a last resort, I reconnected a VGA cable, and restarted the monitor. This time everything worked. Then I pressed the menu button again, and the menu appeared. In the menu, I first turned ON the "auto-detect HDMI" option, then I also switched to the "use HDMI" option by default. I think it is outright stupid that both of these options were turned off by the manufacturer; worse yet, there was no way to turn them back on without first connecting to a computer using the VGA input. Why do I need a computer connection to see the monitor's menu? On most other monitors, this is not the case. Given that this is how it was for this monitor, at least they should have made the "auto-detect HDMI" option the default at the factory. Even if it is set to be ON, and if you do not connect a cable to the HDMI input, the VGA (or DVI) input will function just fine. Talk about being your own worst enemy: BenQ definitely is! I can easily believe that most of the small monitors (21" and below) will be used with a VGA input, but I expect that the overwhelming majority of 27" monitors will use HDMI (or possibly DVI.)
Overall, I recommend the monitor highly, if you are not looking for the best possible picture. But beware of the issues in the paragraph above. If you need the highest quality picture, buy a different brand but you will pay a lot more.
ADDENDUM: It has been almost a year since I bought this monitor. Unfortunately HDMI port lost the audio (the video is still OK.) When I connect my computer to a different monitor via HDMI, I get audio and video both. So the problem is not with the HDMI cable or with my graphics card. Now this monitor is worth only half as much in my eyes. I will lower the rating to two stars. It's been a good monitor for a year, but a monitor should last longer than that.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2013Says product has built in speakers, but they only work apparently with certain cables not supplied. Should have made that clear in advertising/product description. To reach tech support or customer service took a lot of digging and detective work. Then, when I FINALLY reached someone, they said product doesn't have speakers. Then they changed it to say it does in fact. Then they said sound only works with HDMI cable. Then they changed it, saying 3.5mm cable could work. Who knows now. I still have no sound, despite all their product description. I have as much faith in this company's information as I do in long-term weather forecasts: zero. Terrible customer service. Monitor itself seems okay, but I won't buy from this company again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely love this monitor
Absolutely love this monitor. I got it on sale, a steal for $200. I use it for my high end gaming PC and it works great. Turns on and responds very quickly and displays games beautifully. BenQ is a known and respected brand throughout the gaming community and it's easy to see why. Great HD monitor, big enough to play games, but not so big that it's out of price range.
Update: May 2016 - Still works perfectly. A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it
I have been using two monitors, this is perfect for me. The color is very vibrant, took me 8 months of searching reading reviews and product information before I finally to take a chance with this one. I have never heard of BenQ always have had ACER or LG monitors. Full time student so being able to spread out my work is really convienence, also watch tv and movies online plus some gaming. Price is great.

This is personal preference issue. Takes a while to turn on. Like 5 to 10 seconds before i see anything if it was off for a while. Very annoying. Otherwise, the monitor works fine and understand why it's cheaper than others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Monitor
Bought it for the husband as a Christmas present so he could enjoy Battlefield 4 and his new fancy video card. The resolution is beautiful and the size is perfect for a desk. You get the big screen feel without have to sit 8 feet away!
