I. Love. This. Pillow.
My old pillow was one of those old contoured memory foam units, which contracted amnesia from years of abuse and is currently more of a flat sponge than a foam cushion. It's always risky buying things like pillows on Amazon, but this one did not disappoint! It is exactly what I like in a pillow. I will attempt to describe it from the perspective of someone upgrading from a contoured memory foam pillow:
First, I didn't have an issue with smell. I remember it having a smell when unboxed, but it had aired out by the time I slept on it.
When you first lie down on your back with the pillow, it seems a bit uncomfortable, because it is thicker than the slim memory foam pillow you are used to and your head is held higher. However, the foam slowly (over 10-15 minutes) sinks to just the right level where you are cradled but not swallowed, and no further, giving you firm yet comfortable support.
After a while, when you want to shift to your side, the thickness of the pillow is still just right. (I am a man with moderately broad shoulders) Bonus: no shifting the pillow around to the right contoured side, just turn yourself over and keep on sleeping!
Finally, when you flip over to your stomach, as I am wont to do, you will find that the edges of the pillow sink a little lower and you will be able to hug the pillow and snooze without hurting your neck. And again, no shuffling the pillow around to the right position, as with a contoured unit.
The heat sapping effect of the pillow is just right. It keeps the pillow at a temperature that does not disturb your resting mind, not too cold or hot. After 8-10 hours of sleep, I have heated up the whole pillow (which seems to make it softer), and I could swear that the slowly rising temperature is beginning to signal my body to gently wake up at the right time.
Lastly, the pillow has a pleasant heft that keeps me from flinging it around during fitful dreams or final-exam-induced tossing and turning.
I've slept on old-fashioned feather pillows, memory foam pillows, thin pillows, thick pillows, hard pillows, soft pillows, all kinds of pillows, and I have yet to find one I like as much as the Sleep-Better Iso-Cool. 10/10, would buy again.
