Very disappointed with this coffee maker

With the Chemex heritage behind it, I expected more. The machine developed cracks around the heating element and then started giving off a "burnt" smell. A few months later, it wouldn't turn on anymore. There are better, more durable machines out there.

Love this coffeemaker

I have tried just bout every coffeemaker there is and this is my favorite by far. I was always displeased by the temperature of the coffee from other machines - not nearly hot enough. This machine consistently delivers a piping hot delicious ( of course based on coffee you use) cup. I have had the machine for about 3 years. I do a cleNing with the Chemex solution a few times a year which I think ensures the elements continue to deliver a hot brew! The only drawback is the number of cups you get from a pot- max 4 big cups.

Chemex Ottomatic keeps breaking, on third unit

The first unit developed tiny cracks all around the heating plate after 7 months, or that is when we noticed it. The second stopped working after 4 months, just would not turn on. The one we have now has just stopped turning on after 3 months. We loved the machine but this time it is going back for good. If you buy this watch for the cracks around the heating element. Save the receipt and the box. It has a one year guarantee and Bloomingdales was great with the xchanges. Chemex won't help, they will refer you to the place of purchase. Too bad.

Chemex Ottomax

I was excited to receive this new electric Chemex coffee maker for Christmas. We love the classic and looked forward to not heating the water. It worked well but within 2 months there were 4 large cracks around the heating element. Also, the maker does not pump all of the water out of the cylinder leaving about a fourth in the bottom, which concerns me with mold issues. For the price point of this product I am very disappointed in the quality of the materials and the pumping mechanics. You have to return the product back to where you purchased it from, Chemex does not take returns if not bought directly from them. Bloomingdale's return was easy, but they sent me a used one that had water in the cylinder, so I had to take the time to pack and ship 2 coffee makers back.
