The Unpredictable Consequences of Love: A feel-good novel filled with seaside secrets Kindle Edition
Jill Mansell's bestseller THE UNPREDICTABLE CONSEQUENCES OF LOVE is an unforgettable tale of sunny days on the beach, Cornwall in the summer and secrets about to be revealed. Perfect for readers of Lucy Diamond and Veronica Henry.
In the idyllic seaside town of St Carys, Sophie is putting the past firmly behind her.
When Josh arrives in St Carys to run the family hotel, he can't understand why Sophie has zero interest in letting any man into her life. He also can't understand how he's been duped into employing Sophie's impulsive friend Tula, whose crush on him is decidedly unrequited.
St Carys has more than its fair share of characters, including the charming but utterly feckless surfer Riley Bryant, who has a massive crush on Tula. Riley's aunt is superstar author Marguerite Marshall. And Marguerite has designs on Josh's grandfather...who in turn still adores his glamorous ex-wife, Dot...
Just how many secrets can one seaside town keep?

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 February 2014I discovered Jill Mansell a number of years ago and since then she has become a must read author on my auto - buy list. But this time I was lucky enough to get an early review copy from the Publisher and many thanks to them.
I spent a very happy wet Saturday night completely immersed in this fabulous story. This book is slightly different to Ms. Mansells others in that there doesn't seem to be one main character couple, there are several, and this really worked flawlessly. The transition between the stories and the interactions between the different couples/potential couples is brilliantly done
The story centres around Sophie and Josh, Sophie works as a photographer and has sworn off men and is determined never again to be responsible for someone else's happiness due to events in her past life. Josh has returned to his grandmothers hotel and as co-owner is actively managing it with her following his departure from the high flying life he led in LA. Josh feels an instant attraction to Sophie and is feels very put out when she turns down his advances. Josh is a man that doesn't give up easily and he wants to help Sophie through whayever it is that is holding her back.
There are lots more characters to meet and fall in love with.
This is the perfect book for this time of year to curl up beside the fire with a glass of your choice and devour it in as little sittings as possible.
With her latest book, Jill Mansell has established her place firmly in my heart as one of my favourite authors.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 March 2014I read this in a couple of days on holiday and really enjoyed it. Without ruining plot the storyline with Riley made me laugh and wonder how often this actually happens in real life! Lol! I have read most of Jill's books and although hand heart it wasn't my favourite I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ps Jill, I always go on holibobs on March which normally coincides with you releasing a new book, so much
so that it has become a tradition if me reading it on hols, hope you aren't planning changing your publication schedule x
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 November 2023My title says "disappointing" but I don't mean the book itself, I mean it's disappointing that these characters aren't real and aren't my friends and that I don't live in St Cary's! I really enjoyed this book. I vaguely remember thinking I'd heard of St Cary's before but then I realised I'd read Meet me at Beachcomber Bay. I think I read the books out of order and now can't remember if these characters were mentioned in that book or not. But I have too many books to get through to re-read it and check even though I'd love to see more of these characters.
But, anyway, I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I even laughed out loud in parts. Excellent. Thank you, Jill.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 May 2024Like all of Jill Mansell’s books that I have read it draws you into the characters world from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages to the end.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2014Anyone who has read my previous reviews will know that I haven't always been a Jill Mansell fan. That all changed when she brought out a walk in the park which I absolutely loved. Now, I always pre order her books.
This one sounded interesting and the perfect book for Spring/Summer. We follow Sophie, a photographer who has some secrets in her past and can't escape them and her friend Tula, who loses her job and moves to Cornwall, looking for a new adventure.
I really liked the setting as I've been to Cornwall on holiday. I also liked Sophie as a character and was really rooting for her. Her back story was interesting and I wanted to find out more.
I didn't warm to Tula so much - I just found her irritating. I also felt that not enough was made of Sophie's back story - this should have been a major event in the book and was glossed over. I also felt that the book was quite weak and not very well developed.
This was a disappointment for me and I'm glad I only paid the kindle price!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 January 2025Good Value for Money
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 February 2025Item is what I required
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 May 2016I bought this book by accident, I can't even remember why I bought it because chick lit is not my normal reading type but I did and I am so glad I did. Casting around for something to read on my kindle on a tedious flight I came across it and started to read. Not only did the rest of the flight pass incredibly quickly but I continued reading when I got to the hotel and found myself unable to put the book down until I had finished it at 2am. Yes, the storyline was a bit predictable but you know what? I could forgive the writer for it because it was such a lovely read. A real feel -good story, incredibly easy to read in that effortless style that only a really good writer can manage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner for Jill Mansell
If you are looking at my review list right now, you can tell that I am on a Jill Mansell kick. The reason is that every one of her books are highly enjoyable and fun reading. In "The Unpredictable Consequences of Love", we meet Sophie Wells who is a professional photographer. She is photographing a family at the Mariscombe House Hotel when the proprietor's dog, Griff, runs through the family photo. The Mariscombe Hotel is owned by Dot Strachan and her grandson, Josh. The grandson has recently returned from the US where he developed and then masterminded a young band to the top of the musical charts. He has had fame and fortune but now he has returned to the UK to help run the family hotel.
Women flock to Josh and he has had enough of women who throw themselves at him. He is interested in Sophie because she does not seem to have any interest in him at all. Her girlfriend, Tula, is another thing however. Tula quickly makes her interest in Josh known to everybody. She also lands a job at the Mariscombe House Hotel, as well, even though Josh is decidedly set against it.
One of Josh's friends, Riley, a man who does not have a job and lives off the largesse of his godmother figures in the book too. Tula has not love for him as she pursues Josh. Riley tells her that she is not going to have a shot at Riley, much less any man, because she is way too transparent when it comes to men. Tula in turn scorns Riley for his lack of work and his surfing all day lifestyle.
As the story progresses, Josh learns the truth behind Sophie's reticence with men and other secrets are soon revealed too. Not all characters in the book are what they seem. Another winner in the Jill Mansell books. Don't miss it for a light but enjoyable read.

Un po' prevedibile, a dire il vero. Ma interessante è il metodo con il quale l'autrice svela i particolari dei suoi personaggi. E comunque un giro sullo Strand ci sta sempre!
