The Contour Brush is TRULY SUPERB for smooth, natural application of highlighter - the others are not the best brushes I've used

The Contour Brush is TRULY SUPERB for smooth, natural application of highlighter - the others are not the best brushes I've used
Bought for £9.99 during Black Friday Deals this year. They are the genuine product that you can get (at a much higher price, may I add) at several shops on the high street. I am happy with the brushes. I've been using this kit every day since I got it and have found a regular job for two of the four brushes, the other two are just sitting in my make up drawer. On all four brushes the bristles are soft and leave no marks when I use them. The bristles bend easily, but they also get back to their original shape easily. I really like how it says the name of each brush on the handle - that makes it easy for me to know what each brush is meant to be used for, especially considering how many different brushes I have in my make-up drawer. Admit it, we've all been there - looking at a brush and thinking: what was it's exact application...?! Well this name on handle thing takes that confusion away, so two thumbs up for that :) Also, each brush has a flat back, so you can prop it up and it'll stay standing (if you've got the space/time/willingness to balance it after every use). I personally don't use this feature of any of the brushes, I just chuck them in the drawer for next time, but thought I might mention it. As you'd expect the main handle gold colour is a nice shimmery shade and the black is super easy to grip, so design wise Real Techniques has done very well.In terms of the black case that comes with the brushes - I'm not so impressed. It gets dirty very quickly and it's near impossible to clean it completely (you cannot put it in the wash). Also the brushes are held in place by a little black elastic: this has already gotten so stretched out of place that it no longer holds the brushes within the case. The only positive that I can think of, in terms of the case, is that it folds in half and there is a toggle that you can use to decide just how open (and hence propped up) you'd like it to be. So, in a way, the case converts into a stand, which is quite unique and original thing with packaging that I've not come across before. There was also a plastic piece that held the brushes in place, but that was thrown in the bin within two days of starting to use the brushes (as it really was a useless piece of plastic there to just make the brushes seem pretty when inside the plastic packaging in the shop). Now, in terms of each individual brush - the contour brush is the most amazing contouring brush I've come across. ITS AN ABSOLUTE GEM!! Quite frankly, IT'S WORTH BUYING THE WHOLE KIT JUST FOR THIS ONE BRUSH. It's that good! I use it exclusively for applying highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones, my nose bridge and the temples. I do not use it for anything else, as I don't want darker colours to get into the bristles. A single motion of up and down and just enough product is placed at just the right place. I cannot praise this brush enough!!! So I use this brush as it's intended to be.The second brush - the buffing brush - I use as an exclusively setting powder brush (despite it being a big large in terms of size). Due to my skin being combination I apply setting powder on my neck, the T-zone (forehead and nose) as well as around the mouth, but never on my cheeks. It's quite a good brush for this I find as it does not pick up too much product, but just enough to make sure your liquid foundation stays on all day. So that is the task I've given this buffing brush (semi-using it as its intended). The third brush - the detailer - is just too small for me and does next to nothing. It's too tiny to use for blemishes and other spots (in terms of concealing), but too big to use as lipstick brush. So I've got no real use for it (thankfully it does not take up too much space).Lastly, the fourth brush - the golden pointed foundation brush - I don't use as it's intended at all! It's meant to be for the application of liquid foundation - but I find that it just soaks up product like crazy, depositing very little on my skin. This can be especially problematic when you use quite an expensive liquid foundation - you don't want to wash half of the product off the brush once you've finished applying your make up. So, although it sounds like a good idea, this brush does not do a good job (for me) and so I've left it to one side.No bristles have fallen off (touch wood) on any of the brushes. All the brushes are light to hold, easy to work with/manoeuvre and fairly precise with product application. All three qualities I look for in a great make up brush.I recommend this kit to others, even at full price, its definitely worth the buy purely because of the CONTOUR BRUSH. As aforementioned, now that I've tried all four brushes, I'd personally pay the full price of this kit just for this one contouring brush - it is that amazing. The other three I could do without and also I've used better version of them in the past.P.S. I've included several pictures for you to see how the brushes came (this kit would make a lovely present) and what it looks like when open (including a close up of the name and head shape of each brush). Enjoy XD

Overall, the Real Techniques Core Collection Kit is a game-changer for achieving flawless makeup looks. Some reviews for these have asked if they are real - I can say that they are. They are exactly the same as the Real Techniques brushes I have bought separately from Boots and Superdrug. As for the writing on the handles wearing off, I contacted Real Techniques Customer Service - they confirmed that, because it is only printed on, the writing will wear off with use.

The back of the box reads :

Detailer Brush (short, stubby one) - precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas, or, use with lipstick for long-lasting shape and definition.

Pointed Foundation Brush (small pointy one) - use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage.

Buffing Brush (really big one) - ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation.

Contour Brush (big round one) - delicately applies highlighter to contour or create sheer, soft-focus finish.

Panoramic Case - dual carrier and stand keeps brushes organized on your counter or on the go.

I would say, though, the Buffing brush is almost identical to their Stippling brush, just very slightly rounded and slightly bigger. They are equally soft (really soft) but I find the buffing brush bristles more densely packed - make your choice, you really don't need both as they are so much alike.

The littlest brush is quite stiff. I wanted to use it for eyeshadow in the crease but it is too hard for that. It is also a bit too stiff, and too big, to use for lipstick. Maybe eyeliner?

The Contour brush is pretty much identical to their Setting brush, so again, you don't need both. It is very soft and is supposed to be used for cheeks. It's really too small for that unless you want a very defined stripe rather than blush over the whole apple of your cheeks. It's too fat for eyes and I use my flat foundation brush for highlighter so I'm not really sure what to use it for.

Personally, I would have recommend buying your brushes individually. This set seemed cheap, especially in the deals, but 2 of the brushes are the same as brushes I already have, and another is useless. The fourth (foundation brush) I knew I already had one of and never use as I find it too streaky. If you're buying from scratch, perhaps buy the very cheap Chinese import dupes to see what brushes you get on with before buying the real deal (as the imports only last a few weeks at most and don't usually survive washing).

To clean, pour brush cleaner or toner onto a pad and buff the dirty brush head on it. To wash, use baby shampoo or anti-bacterial hand soap (never washing up liquid as it dissolves the brush head glue). Don't let water get into the brush stem or you'll lose your bristles, and always dry flat, not standing up. Drying takes a couple of days. Do not put on radiators to dry or you'll melt the brush head glue and reduce lifespan.

    Happy Brushing!!

These brushes arrived the next day with prime delivery. They are excellent quality, good value for money! I bought a cheaper set of brushes previously and was disappointed with the quality and since everyone is raving about these real techniques brushes I thought I'd treat myself to a nice set of brushes. They are super soft, dense and flexible and they don't shed so definitely worth buying these for this price (currently £10.82).

The buffing brush really does a great job of buffing my powers in and I just love the contour brush because of the shape. The pointed foundation brush is way too tiny to apply foundation with! I usually don't use a brush for my foundation anyways but I use this brush to apply my concealer and then blend it out with my real techniques miracle complexion sponge. The detailer brush is very small, I use it for detailed eyeshadow application or lip brush but can't be used to blend anything out it's too tiny and harsh for the eye.

The case which comes with this kit is completely useless to me. First of all it claims that it doubles as a stand for the brushes, this thing does not hold the brushes vertically in any way as all the straps that hold the brushes are made for the brushes to sit horizontally. I've looked up other kits and it seems that the standing case is a totally different one, the one that comes with this kit is just a case. I'd rather use a brush bag to hold my brushes than this chunky hard case that just takes up too much space. If this would have a stand feature I would have used it.

All in all, this is a great brush collection and I highly recommend it.

This set has all the basic brush tools you need to apply makeup every day. The case is handy because it lets you stand the brushes upright on your makeup table (put it is a bit of a pain putting the brushes back through the elastic if you're in a rush).

I don't really use the flat foundation brush because I use their face brush which is sold seperately - I find it give a better finish for my skin.

The powder brush has a great shape, it's almost flat on top and super soft - you can use it to sweep product over the skin or buff it in.

The concealer brush is also nice and soft and has a pointed tip which is great for precision and applying to areas around the nose.

The contour brush has a great sculpted shape and is perfect for highlighting cheekbones!

Overall I give this set 10/10 I've had no hairs fall out of them, their super soft and they apply product so well that I've never considered trying a different brand. If these ever get broken or lost I would definetly purchase again. Great value for money!

This brush set is very good quality and great value for your money. The brushes are very comparable to much more expensive high- end brushes. They're very soft, don't shed too much, and continue to work well after being washed many times. The liquid foundation brush is quite small; I'm not sure who would have the patience to do their whole face with it. But it's great for under eye concealer. The contour brush I also find a little small for contouring but I love it for highlighting. The detailer brush is great for smoking out your makeup under your lower lash line. The buffing brush is the reason I bought this set and it is perfect for blending out the areas between foundation and concealer, blush and foundation, etc.
