You can enjoy videos online** using the Internet Browser installed on the console, plus automatic brightness adjustment optimises the screen to offer the best view for your current surroundings.

More comfortable gaming with the super-stable 3D function
This function allows the New Nintendo 3DS XL system to recognise your face using the inner camera, automatically adjusting the angle – even if you move a lot during gameplay – to give the best possible 3D experience.

Backwards compatible
You can play all your current Nintendo 3DS games on New Nintendo 3DS, and almost all Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games can be played on a New Nintendo 3DS system in 2D.***

- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2015Though, at this point, I would recommend getting a New Nintendo 3DS XL, an original Nintendo 3DS XL is anything but a bad choice for any gaming fan. I'm sure there will be more games exclusive to the "New" model, but there are plenty of games to play on the original XL, and more to come.
As far as the hardware goes, the 3DS XL model is a fantastic way to experience the 3DS family's expansive library of games. The system is heavy and not about to fit in your jeans pocket comfortably. However, like all Nintendo products, it's built tough, plus the buttons have a satisfying clicky-ness to them. And the circle pad moves nice and smooth. Casual players won't care about this, but hardcore players may despair over the lack of a second analogue stick. The bulky Circle Pad Pro attachment remedies this, but be warned: it's like carrying two full-size console controllers around.
It's all about the games, though, and the 3DS has some great ones. You can play 3 of the best Zelda games ever designed on this system, for one thing. Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D are remakes, of course, but the 3DS-exclusive A Link Between Worlds is an absolute masterpiece in its own right. Other first-party Nintendo games are also worth picking up: Super Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Kart 7, Pushmo (eShop only), Kid Icarus Uprising, Luigi's Mansion 2, Pokemon X/Y, Pokemon ORAS, Super Smash Bros. 3DS, and even New Super Mario Bros. 2. There are many worthy 3rd party titles as well, such as the recent Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Bravely Default, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Resident Evil: Revalations, and more. The 3DS eShop is also full to bursting with goodness. Do me a favor and pay the measly $5 needed to enjoy Gunman Clive and Gunman Clive 2.
Finally, if there's one game that makes this system worth owning, it's Fire Emblem: Awakening. Anyone can enjoy this habit-forming gem thanks to multiple difficulty levels and the heaven-sent Casual mode. Another Fire Emblem game is on its way too.
Other than having what has slowly become one of the best current-gen game libraries, the 3DS XL also comes with some built-in software. It's not the deepest of stuff, but you can enjoy the 3-D effect and cameras with AR Games and Face Raiders, and the StreetPass games that are included free aren't bad either.
Finally, the 3DS XL systems play Nintendo DS games. This is most refreshing in an industry where backward compatibility seems to be heading toward a little town I like to call Obsolete. Getting a 3DS XL is getting two systems in one. You can't beat that.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2014I recently got a 3DS XL and passed on my old one to my girlfriend. I had purchased it used some time ago and it wasn't in the best shape; I felt horrible delivering such a shoddy piece of technology to someone I care so deeply for.
So, I hopped online to see if I could find one for my girlfriend. Needless to say, I ended up purchasing this one for her (although, I REALLY wanted to get her a Pikachu one).
This is arguably the best console that has ever been. Now, I say that as an avid and seasoned gamer; one who has played since the NES/Sega era and played all the major consoles (god do I miss my Dreamcast...). The range of video games is fantastic, I can guarantee if you spend a bit of time looking around, literally anyone can find a game for them on this system. The buttons are easy to learn, the 3DS XL fits in a wider range of hands than almost any other handheld, and it all just feels right.
The HUD (Heads-Up Display) and general User Interface are intuitive and slick, complemented by contemporary styling and easy customization.
The 3D works surprisingly well. After setting up the best 3D depth with the slider, eyes adjust quickly (in a matter of minutes in most cases) and you don't have to fidget too much with holding it at any uncomfortable angles or distances from you. It plays well in almost any comfortable gaming position.
Setting these things up can be kind of a pain between logging into your wireless network(s), setting up a Nintendo account, transferring information (if you have another 3DS and, more difficult, a micro-SD card), customizing settings, and more. But it's ultimately worth it. That and the gyroscope (I think) inside the system can sometimes create issues in games (for instance in first-person mode in Mario Kart 7, where tilt is used to steer). Those are honestly my only complaints.
As for my girlfriend; she is madly in love with the system. It's been her pride and joy since I surprised her with the package. :) I highly recommend this for ANYONE; not JUST gamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Able to Replay My Entire 3DS library YAY!!
Really impressed! The third party seller I got it from packaged it nicely even sealed the box. Came with everything including the charger, memory card, AR cards and manual. I upgraded my memory card but glad to know it comes with 4GB. Shipping was fast. I actually think I prefer the black over my previous blue haha.
Had a minor scuff but I barely noticed it. I could have made a scuff like that myself honestly. Works like as if It was new. I was weird about buying used because of this. Also because of a possible locked NNID to the system.
Was able to call Nintendo and they were able to transfer my NNID to the new system no problem. The device came factory reset with no linked NNID. So happy I can re-download all my games. Now my only problem is what to play first haha!! I don’t care about save data, but they can’t keep that , unless you only have your original SD card with save data. Thanks gaming-Canada

5.0 out of 5 stars I felt like this was a great purchase
I've never had an original DS or other nintendo hardware to compare this to, but on the whole, I felt like this was a great purchase.
What I don't like:
Rather slow operating system -
Feels like my old Nokia Symbian OS. It operates smoothly, just the loading times and transitions that take a while to process. It's forgiveable considering that the games run with hardly any problems.
Limited screen positions -
There are only 3 or 4 positions that the top screen can "snap" into. Even though these positions are very well thought-out and they fit most playing positions, I was expecting it to be able to stay at any position. Also, the screen feels a little flimsy if you try to shake the device.
Camera -
The less said the better, even though it takes 3D photos and videos.
What I like:
Controls and buttons +
Very well-placed buttons, and they're all very snappy (except the top L and R buttons). 3D and volume sliders are placed so that they're easily accessible but you won't accidentally touch them.
Material and feel +
It feels very solid!
It's not comparable to other handhelds in terms of graphics. At 400*240px, games can look a bit pixellated. It's not a big concern for me because most games I play are older series like Pokemon and Mario. The graphics make it feel retro.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome handheld device
Awesome handheld device, I bought this as a (very unpractical) christmas present to myself and I love my DS! The graphics are great (in 2D or 3D), the games are great, and the controls are easy to use. The multiplayer functions are really fun to use as well. It arrived in great condition, and has some really cool features to keep you entertained even without any additional games.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you can't wait for New 3DS, this one will do fine
I managed to see this when it was on sale and jumped at the opportunity to get it along with the excellent Mario Kart 7. I'm a big guy, so the XL is perfect for me and my big grip. It came with a 2GB SD card and it's been useful for buying downloading games. For me at least, it's been enough to fit 3 games with room for 1 or 2 more. The 3D effect is nice but my issue is the 3DS has to be held at a very precise location otherwise you'll see double. And another issue I have is the volume button placement, occasionally I'll accidentally press it up and the volume will be loud. Once I was listening to my iPod and I didn't realize I had pressed the volume high to maximum until I took off my earphones. If that had happened in an airplane or a public crowded place, a lot of folks would likely give you the evil stare. It was on sale so I bought it, otherwise I would have waited for the New 3DS which should be out next year in 2015.
