they are gorgeous! they are lightweighted, very shiny and delightfully elegant without being gody. i usually rinse my good flatware in soapy water or in the dishwasher with no detergent to remove food acids and then wash them by hand later. once in a while i will use the dishwasher with detergent.(the detergent is the abrasive element in a dishwasher and what could scrape some finishes) i dont understand why some commentors think the weight is a sign of quality, i suspect this is an old concept. with today technology i find lightweight flatware of good quality. i had been in love with this pattern good 10 years before i could afford to buy them because i think they are very different. i always receive lots of compliments. they look exactly as the picture but shiner. there is plenty of other images online if you are interested. they are worth the investment, they are good quality, beautiful and strong but i dont know if they could really hold on or everyday dishwasher because that is not how i use them.
** look closely and you will notice that the salad fork design results in small teeth. that is the only flaw keeping them from being perfect, but i could not give 4.75 stars. it does not pinch a lot of food, so yes, if you like a bite of everything in the salad in one mouthfull you could be dissapointed. the teeth measure between 1/2in-5/8in so go get a fork and place some tape at that distance to give you an idea how small they are. i still dont care, i love them the same because they are beautiful. i have about 5-6 pattern that i like and this is definetely my favorite.
funny note: maybe that is why japanese are slim, slow start on dinner salad. lol
