Book Description
From the Back Cover
'Scientists labelled fat the enemy. Why they were wrong.' Time magazine
We've been told for years that eating fat is bad for us, that it is a primary cause of high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity. The Real Meal Revolution debunks this lie and shows us the way back to restored health through eating what human beings are meant to eat.
This book will radically transform your life by showing you clearly, and easily, how to take control of not just your weight, but your overall health, too - through what you eat. And you can eat meat, seafood, eggs, cheese, butter, nuts . . . often the first things to be prohibited or severely restricted on most diets. This is Banting, or Low-Carb, High-Fat (LCHF) eating, for a new generation, solidly underpinned by years of scientific research and by now incontrovertible evidence.
This extraordinary book, already a phenomenal bestseller, overturns the conventional dietary wisdom of recent decades that placed carbohydrates at the base of the supposedly healthy-eating pyramid and that has led directly to a worldwide epidemic of obesity and diabetes. Both a startling revelation, and as old as humanity itself, it offers a truly revolutionary approach to healthy eating that explodes the myth, among others, that cholesterol is bad for us. This is emphatically not just another unsustainable, quick-fix diet or a fad waiting to be forgotten, but a long-delayed return to the way human beings are supposed to eat.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 May 2020Excellent read, if you don't like the science stuff then forget the hit after the recipes. Great healthy lifestyle change, since using the LCHF diet I've lost nearly 10kg in 7 weeks, I have tons of energy, my skin has improved and my acid reflux has all but gone. My gut health seems to have radically improved as well. My gf has also lost 5 kg in 6 weeks and doesn't get bloating now. The last episode was due to high carbs (with and without gluten) and artificial sweeteners.
After reading this book I'd recommended buy some ketostixs and use my fitness pal and strictly measure your food to see what you're eating. Don't be deterred by any lack of progress, be strict - good foods, good fats and measure everything if you plateau. I found that I only needed to eat when I was hungry so it was natural to do some intermittent fasting. You need to listen to your body not your cravings and this is usually why people fail. If you cannot lose weight your very IR and fasting will help even if you're on medications that increase insulin production. If you eat right you won't be hungry enough to pick and snack.
Don't be deterred by research that shows LCHF diets aren't good, there have been studies done to prove This but once you read into them the carbs are 150g, that is not low, that's high but it's still not as high as what is recommended. E.g. Before the diet I weighed 108.7kg, to gain muscle several websites macro counters recommended I have anything between 250-350g carbs per day. To cut fat I was recommended 150-160g. All had similar fat and protein values, P 160g and F 30g. In 6 months of following a strict fat cutting plan I lost 3kg of muscle mass and gained 3kg of fat. Despite well timed meals, supplements and measured macros. It simply did the opposite of what it should have done. This converted me to keto. Best thing I've done, easy to follow and simple cooking. I love every meal and I'm never hungry, not like I was before.
Give it a go, be strict for at least 6 weeks. If you measure and do it accurately you will see results. Trust me I was a non-believer.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 June 2017When I first heard about Banting a few years ago, I was sceptical but it is such a big thing in South Africa that I decided to give it a go having spoken to people there who have been following this way of eating for a few years and have shed weight, feel healthier and come off all sorts of medication as a result. This book is fabulous, the science just makes sense and the recipes are easy. I tend to read this book in bits and go back to it every so often to reacquaint myself with things I've forgotten. I have lost weight, my joints don't ache any more and I feel better and have more energy. I do cheat but I've come to the conclusion that cheating isn't worth it, the joint pains come back and I feel bloated and put on weight. I've got a hard copy of the book which I use when I'm in South Africa but it was the kindle version I bought on Amazon. I see there are quite a few low carb books on the market now but having glanced at a few of them, this is the best. My cholesterol did go up initially but I'm hoping that now I'm back in the UK and eating more fish rather than great big fat juicy steaks in SA, that this will have come down. Having read elsewhere that Tim Noakes says that it can take up to a year for people's cholesterol to fall, I am not unduly worried because the weight is coming off and I am exercising more.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2015I've been waiting for this book since I preordered it in February and so I was really excited to see it when it finally arrived yesterday. It's been available in South Africa for some time and has become a big talking point there.
The book explains the theory and approach to low carbohydrate - high fat eating. Also commonly known as the Banting Diet (after a man who originally noted that fat doesn't cause obesity, carbohydrate does).
The book is really well presented. Visually the fonts, layout and photography is well designed and very appealing. It's the size of the average cookery book with a paper/card cover.
The book is structured into three main parts - the first part includes the usual kind of intro, a brief history of the human diet and how we have messed with our food, the role of carbs, the benefits of 'Banting', followed by the approach, practical advice and how tos. The second section, and the biggest bulk of the book, is recipes - the selection is good, instructions clear and some useful tips included. The final part is the full scientific explanation written by Professor Tim Noakes. It's a lengthy piece of writing but well written and very thorough.
If you are interested in eating for your health and being a healthy weight, buy this book. It's an important book that will transform your health. It isn't a quick fix diet and for most people it will require a big change in eating habits and lifestyle. Although I've only just got the book I've been introducing low carb high fat eating into my life over recent months and seeing the benefits of it, now I have the book I'm able to use the recipes and advice to commit fully to a better way of eating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Das Beste auf dem Gebiet gesunder Ernährung
