I was going on a cruise and i wanted to have a go pro for the snorkeling by the reef.  I got this on closeout for $65. Cant beat it. Yes it would be nice to have a video screen on the back but it took great photos and video without it. Personally, I wont use it that much but glad I have it now. Worth what it was full price.  For $65 it was a steal!  I would recommend this and any go pro product.

Got dirt cheap

I knew this would not have bells and whistles like a LCD screen or WiFi when I bought it. That's why it's the cheapest model! It does everything I needed, and it does it all very well. The videos are great. I love the ability to take shots around water or even underwater without worrying about damaging the camera. After taking some videos I downloaded Go Pros free editing software. It is great! I can trim, combine, and set video clips to music now. Great product!!!!!!

We really love the quality! Love the small pocket size! Wish it has a playback option on the camera lol. My husband has been using it to record while skateboarding....we noticed the battery dies somewhat fast....not sure if its because were in direct sunlight for a lot of the recording....but we know we can buy a battery that lasts longer, other than that, really cool!

Bought it for my husband as a fathers day gift

I purchased the cheapest gopro so I could film my POV at Tough Mudder this year. When comparing cameras I decided I didn't really need 4k, or even 1080p for that matter to make a decent recap video I was just looking for a decent resolution and 60fps. Fortunately this one records 720p @ 60fps!

I've played around with it quite a bit and found that the image quality seems to be a few levels below what you see from the Hero3 and above which is a tad disappointing, but again I'm not looking to make a movie or tv show so it will suffice.

The GoPro it's self is really good. I'm glad I was able to find this one, but it is hard to find the right memory card. It doesn't say if it needs the Class 4 or Class 10

Good, but hard to find memory card.

Out of the box this camera is unusable. You have to buy a micro SD card for it before you can take pictures or make videos. There is no screen so you cannot view your photos or videos in real time. The USB cable that came with the camera is too short. I had to buy a longer one. To date all of the ,up close, photos I have taken appear as if they were taken through a fishbowl. This effect is less noticeable on video. If I back off to reduce this effect my subject appears to be a lot further away than it actually is. With some practice I have learned to get around these problems. I usually have HERO with me when I go hiking. The photo shows what I mean by fishbowl effect.

MIXED FEELINGS

I know I chose the cheapest camera on the series, but I was expecting a little more of it. For videos is good, but take very poor pictures. Unless it is sunny and bright, the picture quality is very bad. I will return it and test an upgraded version on the next opportunity.

Not what I was expecting

Our GoPro HERO worked well the first week after we bought it. Following that our Mac stopped recognizing the Camera. We were advised by GoPro Technicians to update the Firmware. This did not help. Now the only way we can use the Camera is to remove the SD card and use the adapter to download the content.

Worked for one week

I have found that this is not a device that is usable out of the box. If you are coming cold to this, be prepared for a lengthy learning process.

Right off, there is no automatic shut off. Most modern devices shut off after a certain period of idle time. Not this, it'll stay on to battery depletion. Just something to be mindful of. No instructions to explain this came with the camera, learned it trail and error.

Also, when you stop recording, do not promptly power down the camera. You need to give the media some time to save to camera memory. Not a big deal, but no instructions came with the camera to let you know.

When plugging in the camera to the computer the default condition is to download the pictures to the GoPro Studio Software. The software takes several minutes to load, several minutes to download the videos, and then as likely as not promptly crashes.

When it works, the GoPro Studio's may purpose is to convert the mp4 files you recorded to a GoPro Project format for editing. The editing functions seem to be clunky. I haven't looked but there is probably better mp4 editors out there.

There are multiple settings on what action happens when the camera connects to the computer, e.g., "Take no action." But the default downloading to GoPro Studio always seems to kick in regardless of that setting.

Overall, I think the manufacturer intend this model to make you regret not spending more money on one of their pricier models.
