Hugely fun, but a money grabber

Hugely fun, but a money grabber
Although I haven't had the pleasure of playing this on my Kindle Fire HD, I do have both the online and Deluxe versions, and I have to say that this is an amazingly fun game!! I'm puzzled at the fact that it's not available for Fire and Fire HD; The BTD5 facebook page has a picture of it being played on each of those devices. At any rate, Amazon's excellent customer service cheerfully refunded me the cost of the app. Here's hoping it gets released for the Fire family!! EDIT- As of April 18, this is available for Kindle Fire HD.

I came on here and realized I purchased this game over 2 years ago. I can honestly say this is the only game I’ve ever played that I still play 2 years later. I love it so much. Here’s why it stands out as being the best phone game ever:

-Tons of levels: There are so many levels, I've played every level on easy and medium. I've done most on hard and impoppable. There is a lot of variability between the levels so you don’t get bored. The graphics are great and each level has such different scenery. There’s: ice, road, pavement, water, candy canes, snow, rivers, fields, lava, sand, and more. Each level is so unique it makes it hard to get bored. The levels are divided up between:
    -Beginner (16 levels)
    -Intermediate (14 levels)
    -Advanced (14 levels)
    -Expert (9 levels)
    -Extreme (3 levels)
-Towers: There are 21 unique towers. Each tower has two upgrade paths. There is a ton of tower variability. For example, there’s a helicopter, tack shooter, sniper, ice tower, darting gun, spike factory, bloonchipper and submarine, to name a few. There’s really nothing left out. In addition there are 11 special agents that can be “bought” with in game currency. This isn't currency you need to spend real money on. Each time you beat a level you get some money, that can be used for these guys. The variety of towers and agents to place is perfect!
-Special abilities: Towers when fully upgraded have cool special abilities that can be used and then take a few seconds to regenerate. For example, the submarine sends a big missile at a pack of balloons on the screen or super monkey destroys everything in a small area around it. This really helps on some of the harder levels.
-No need to spend money: Once you pay for the app there is absolutely nothing you need to spend your money on. There are some IAP that you could. But they are all things you can EASILY get while playing, like money or tokens.
-Specialties: There is a specialty store where you can upgrade your towers. You can only use the special upgrades on one tower type at a time. So I fully upgraded my dart training facility. The first upgrade reduced my tower and upgrade costs by 5%, second increased attack speed by 10%, third gives me 1 free dart monkey to start and every ten rounds, last makes dart monkeys darts explosive. This is just an example, every tower has a different set of upgrades. This uses in game currency, no need to spend your own money.
-Monkey lab: These are upgrades using tokens. For every level you beat you get some money (like $90-$700 approx). Then you also get like 1-6 tokens. The lab uses tokens. These are upgrades like increasing attack speed, increasing starting cash, increasing starting lives and decreasing ability cool down.
-Fun extras: Every day there’s a little chest you can open for a little free money, it’s not much, but it’s incentive to at least open the game everyday.
-Game types: I mostly just stick to regular games, but there’s also Co-op, which you play as a team with someone else. There’s a new Odyssey feature that you have a few days to complete that has multiple levels you have to get through and get a bigger reward. There’s also random missions that chooses a board and gives restrictions for towers. Then there’s a daily challenge and special missions. Special missions are extra little challenges, like a level where your towers disappear after 10 rounds or you have 30 seconds to pop a ton of balloons. It’s nearly impossible to get bored of this game with so many modes!

Literally I have played this game almost every night for about 20-30 minutes since I got it. There’s just so much to keep me hooked. I have played other great tower defense games, like Radiance and Kingdom rush, but they don’t even come close to this. Most of them have IAP that you pretty much need to buy in order to get the full benefit of the game. This game there isn't a single tower or special feature that isn't available within game currency. That’s the 100% truth. Every single upgrade, tower, agent, path, ect is available to anyone who plays. This alone makes it worth the $3 to know that you never have to spend another penny on the game. I have been playing it for a few years and still have some stuff left to do. I do take breaks occasionally where I won’t play for a week or two, but then I’ll start up again. I highly recommend this game and give it 5+ stars!

Bloons TD5 is adorable, fun and addictive. It is a Tower Defense game, which means that each level is a map that has a path winding through it. It's your job to set 'towers' (in this case Monkeys) along the path in ways that make them able to pop balloons...because once you start the level, balloons of various shapes and types come rolling down the path, and it's your monkeys' job to stop them. This is not a fast-twitch game by any means, but it is a thinking and strategy game that gets more fun the more you play it. Each balloon popped earns you money, and that money can be used to give your monkeys better and better skills: so over the course of playing a level, each Round might have you thinking about which monkey might need which upgrade in order to be better at completing the next level.

As you complete levels, more are unlocked for later play. You can try any level on one of three difficulties, and you can also try the levels in 'reverse' mode, which is where the balloons start at the exit and travel down the path towards the entrance. Last, we have acheivements that can be earned by playing various levels or trying various techniques.

As you play levels, you get monkey money and tokens. You can spend tokens to bump up general abilities (like "popping power", "popping speed", etc.), and you can use your monkey money to buy enhancements to specific types of monkeys. For example, I like the monkey sorcerors: I bought a "Sorceror's Tower" that gives all my sorceror monkeys a handful of boosts to their abilities.

As if that's not enough, we have the ability to share (and follow) progress with friends on Facebook. We have a Co-Op mode that lets two people play together. You use a Facebook account to find each other (but it won't *abuse* your Facebook account and post to it) and each of you gets to run half the map. Unfortunately, we've had this drop connections and I'm not sure if the problem is our network or that a Co-Op connection isn't stable. There are also other play modes, such as 'Apopalypse' (Bloons don't stop coming, and play is continuous until you lose), Special Missions (ideas like, "Use $50,000 to survive 50 MOABS"), and Random Missions, which are generated challenges with a paticular goal.

The only drawback is probably a limitation of the program: as more Bloons start showing up on the screen, later levels with tons of things going on will slow the program down dramatically--even the PC version on a powerful PC does this and I think it's just the nature of the way the game's code works. There are times when triggering a helpful power will take more than one tap to get it to fire because the game gets overwhelmed. Thankfully it's not caused much frustration; you get used to it and come to enjoy the chaos when you can see your defenses working overtime to keep you winning and going on to the next round.

If you're looking for a great Tower Defense game that's addictive and fun, Bloons TD5 has a lot to offer. Its cartoonish look is charming and the ability to slowly grow the complexity of the game will have you coming back for more. I've played it on the Kindle Fire HD and also purchased it on the PC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mit Abstand das beste TowerDefenseGame auf dem Markt
Reviewed in Germany on February 4, 2016

    Attention, jeu vite addictif.

5.0 out of 5 stars Juego ideal para niños
Reviewed in Spain on May 14, 2017
