4K Ultra HD Pass-through for Super High Resolution Images

This AV receiver provides advanced HDMI features including pass-through of 4K Ultra HD, which is gaining popularity. 4K Ultra HD refers to four times the resolution of a 1080p display. This receiver is capable of passing the 4K Ultra HD data from the source to the monitor for image clarity far beyond present standards.

HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel

3D means the receiver can handle 3D signal data. The Audio Return Channel function enables data to be sent and received via the same HDMI cable so you can hear the sound from the TV via a single HDMI cable with no need for an extra optical cable.

SCENE for One-touch Start

Pressing a SCENE button powers on the AV receiver and selects the input source and DSP mode. You can reset the buttons for different sources by selecting a source and DSP mode, then pressing a SCENE button for more than three seconds.

HDMI CEC for Easy Operation

Another benefit of HDMI is the availability of CEC functionality*. When the unit is connected to a CEC compatible TV, it will turn on and off together with the TV and you can use the TV remote to control the volume. CEC also provides advanced functionality with other components. For example, you can use the receiver's remote unit to control player functions like skip and stop.

*All connected devices must be HDMI CEC compatible. Some CEC compatible TVs/players may not work.

USB Digital Connection for iPod and iPhone on the Front Panel

A USB port on the front panel allows convenient connection of an iPod / iPhone, which also charges when connected. Because the digital signal from the iPod / iPhone is transmitted directly to the AV receiver, there is no signal loss or interference so you enjoy the best possible sound quality. In addition, you can use the receiver's remote control unit to operate the iPod / iPhone music playback functions.

YPAO Sound Optimization for Automatic Speaker Set Up

YPAO analyzes the room acoustics and adjusts various audio parameters for optimum sound in just a few minutes. It's like having a professional installer calibrate your system.

Virtual CINEMA FRONT Provides Virtual 5-channel Surround Sound with High Quality and Resolution

With Virtual CINEMA FRONT, you will enjoy virtual 5-channel surround sound with higher quality and resolution by installing surround speakers at the front. You get more flexibility to arrange your speakers inside the room, along with easy enjoyment of high quality surround sound.

HD Audio with CINEMA DSP

Yamaha's exclusive CINEMA DSP technology supports playback of HD Audio (Dolby® TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio™, etc.), providing natural and expansive sound imaging.

Extra Bass Provides Rich Bass Reproduction, Even with Small Speakers

Yamaha's exclusive low-range enhancement technology delivers richer bass than you expect from the speaker size while maintaining good localization and sound balance even with compact front speakers. When a subwoofer is used, it improves the volume of the entire low range of the speaker system, not only the front speakers, but also enhancing the bass from the subwoofer. You'll enjoy video and music with sound that has exceptional power and presence.

Subwoofer Trim Control for Improved Sound Imaging

The Subwoofer Trim Control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused sound stage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is "pushed" toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim Control takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced enhanced bass sound.

Compressed Music Enhancer

When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.

Discrete Amp Configuration for High Sound Quality

This AV receiver was designed with a strong focus on achieving exceptionally high sound clarity. It employs a discrete amp configuration and a low jitter PLL circuit, which contribute to its excellent audio performance.

ECO Mode Lowers Power Consumption by 20 Percent*

Yamaha's new ECO mode reduces power consumption by about 20 percent. It can be set from the top of the GUI menu.

*Compared to power consumption when ECO mode is off (Yamaha measurement).

Selectable Auto Power Down

Auto power down lets you save energy by selecting to turn off the power after two, four, eight or 12 hours.

Connection for YBA-11 Bluetooth Wireless Adapter

This AV receiver provides a DC out connection for the YBA-11 Bluetooth wireless technology adapter (optional accessory). You'll be able to stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth-capable smartphone, tablet or PC, without a Wi-Fi environment.

A good basic receiver for a bedroom or small living room.
4 out of 5 stars
A good basic receiver for a bedroom or small living room.
Initial impressions are good. I've only had it long enough to get it all set up and calibrated to my taste. I'm so far pleasantly surprised at the depth of options available for such a low cost receiver. I was able to de-select both the subwoofer and center channel output as my bedroom currently lacks both options. The YPAO setup seems to have altered the audio quality for the better, although it's possible to tinker with both individual speaker levels as well as an EQ, which itself is in addition to basic tone controls available from the front panel. First impressions on quality are — mixed. It looks like a well screwed-together piece of kit, but it's a heck of a lot lighter than the old JVC 90's era receiver it replaced. That thing weighs a ton and feels indestructible! The remote it a bit on the chintzy side, too. The buttons are small and cramped together, the red LED action light looks straight off some Walmart bottom dollar radio. And two of the buttons (HDMI 1 and AV1 select) are dead right out of the box. Luckily I don't use those ports, but I'm still waiting to hear back from Yamaha about getting a fully functional replacement. Even though it comes with a very short little bit of wire for the FM tuner (and a big loop for AM), the tuner seems to perform pretty well but lacks the RDS text/data functionality this model has in the UK and European markets. Bummer. It also seems to lack a weak signal mute defeat, meaning you can only tune in the strongest stations without the audio cutting out. Not a big deal for most but I'd like a little more flexibility in that regard. So far, it seems like a pretty good small room/bedroom AV receiver. The flexibility of assigning ports on the back (both HDMI and component ports can be mixed and matched to the "Scene" buttons as well as to various audio-only inputs) is a welcome perk for a receiver of this price. I'm happy to report that Dolby Digital and DTS are decoded just fine, and the assortment of audio enhancements is not nearly as annoying and stupid as older receivers. These actually really do enhance the audio in some tangible way without sounding too fake. Finally, I don't know if it's the receiver or my speakers but I have to turn the volume WAY up to really get any sound out of them (they're little Polk bookshelf deals). The volume control is oddly numbered, too. It defaults to a dB scale, with -80 being minimum while maximum was +16.5 dB. Most receivers I've used with this scale top out at 0 dB. The display can be changed to a numerical scale from 0.5 to 97, if you prefer.

I love this receiver! It was a lot less expensive than the next 5.1 option and I couldn't imagine being much happier with a unit that cost $100 more. Except for built-in bluetooth (external add-ons are available) and maybe a second optical port, there's really nothing more I could want in a surround receiver. The USB input is great, I don't even have to hook up a phone or Mp3 player, I just bought a low-profile 32GB stick and it lives in the unit with my whole collection on it that I can access at any time. There is even on-screen info on the TV through HDMI and also on the receiver display screen for music and settings. The plethora of different presets and decoders is great, and I love that I have full control of all tone and individual speaker levels through the menus. Puts out plenty of power and sounds crystal clear. Could not be happier with performance. The easy setup mic is interesting, but I found that I would rather set the levels myself as it did some interesting things when I ran it. Two minor cons, but neither big enough to dent the 5 star rating I'm giving it. One- the unit is large. Like, standard stereo receiver large. I thought it would be smaller for some reason (cost?), but it is not any larger than your average receiver unit. Two- the receiver can be very picky about how it is wired in the back. I kept getting a "CHECK SP WIRES" message and an auto shutdown at around -20db for the first few days until I pulled out the unit and re-stripped and reinserted all the wiring VERY carefully. Now it works like a champ and will crank a lot louder than I need it to! Found a lot of online frustration with this issue and exactly what the cause is (speaker ohms, external wiring, bad speakers, etc.) and I am pretty confident this is where anyone having a problem should focus. Once all was up and running, I have nothing negative to say whatsoever. Would buy it all over again and will likely get another Yamaha unit if I ever have need to.

There is good reason why the RX-V377 gets such good reviews. It works well and won't break the bank, especially if you can find it with a good discount (I paid less than $200).

I've been looking for a replacement receiver for a few years. I didn't want to pay a fortune for one but I wanted one that has lots of inputs and sounded good. This amplifier definitely fit my requirements. I am very pleased. I really like the microphone setup, it allowed me to move speakers around to find the right balance of position and levels without a lot of tweaking and fiddling. I still plan to tweak the settings a bit but the mic helped get the initial balance set. The onscreen setup is nice too as it keeps you from getting getting lost in a menu tree.

After I bought mine I looked at some of the newer models and they just don't have as many inputs available so I am happy I got this one. This model doesn't seem to support some of the newer HDMI protocols but I have yet to connect something that doesn't work.

NOTE: I had to order two of these because I first one I ordered was a "refurbished" unit and only worked for an hour or two before completely shutting down. The second one, from Amazon Warehouse as a "Used - Very Good" unit, is working well and I really enjoy watching movies in surround sound.

If you're looking a good amplifier/receiver I highly recommend this one.

I bought two nice bookshelf speakers to use for TV, movies, and music. So I needed an amp to power them, and it had to have a remote control. Name-brand amps with remotes start at around $130, so for a few dollars more I decided to just get this entire AV receiver.

I think the RX-V377's remote and menu system is pretty intuitive. I didn't read the manual and I was able to figure it all out without much trouble. You don't really need the on-screen menus, everything can all be done from the display on the front panel, although maybe it helps to see the menu structure on-screen first. Anyway, setting up the receiver was a pleasant experience for me.

I appreciate that Yamaha included a 3.5mm audio input on the front of the receiver. I don't know why this isn't standard on every amp and receiver, but it isn't. With this input, you can easily connect a phone, tablet, or laptop to the receiver and listen to it over your stereo. It's not as convenient as Bluetooth, but good luck finding Bluetooth at this price point.

Speaking of Bluetooth, Yamaha had the good judgement to include USB connectors on the front and back of the receiver. This means you can buy a cheap USB-powered Bluetooth audio dongle, plug it into the receiver, power it via the receiver, and BAM, you just Bluetooth-enabled your receiver for under $20 and a minimum amount of fuss. (Note that I haven't done this myself but I don't see why it wouldn't work.)

Since this is a budget receiver, and receivers are usually advertised by their wattage, I was initially somewhat concerned that this Yamaha "only" puts out 100W per channel (really 70W, 2-channels-driven). But, if you read up on power vs. loudness, you'll find out that if you double the power, things only get 23% louder. So really, the higher-wattage receivers that the RX-V377 is competing with won't get louder by any meaningful amount.

So I've been using this receiver for a little over a month and I'm very pleased, with two caveats:

    1) I originally had my computer plugged into the receiver via HDMI, and then the receiver plugged into my TV via HDMI. This worked, but the receiver was very picky about which devices were turned on first. Everything had to be turned on in a particular order or it wouldn't pass video from the computer to the TV. This might be something you can get used to, but I gave up and just connected my TV's optical audio output to the receiver and now I don't have any video going through the receiver. This setup works fine.

    2) The receiver will occasionally shut off for, like, no reason. It seems like maybe a protective circuit is being tripped to prevent it from shorting or overheating, but it's usually during a pretty quiet scene of a TV show or movie. It has only happened a few times so I'll just wait to see if it gets worse.

Bought it back in 2015. The sound quality is really good with highend speakers. Some buttons on the remote don't work after 4 years. Well worth the money

So far so good, item arrived as advertised in great condition & prompt delivery. Is being used to replace RCA integrated AV receiver c/w DVD in our motor home. This is a far superior product, also being used with microFidelity Audio Amplifier, Model 200 to power passive sub, sounds great so far, still working on receivers many features.
