Product description

Product Description

Autobiography, produced by John Shanks (Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Michele Branch, Hilary Duff, Unwritten Law), has elements of rock, punk and pop, recalling Ashlee’s own favourite bands – ranging from The Pretenders and Blondie to Janis Joplin and Steve Nicks. Ashlee co-wrote every song on the album, working with the likes of Good Charlotte's Benji Madden, Ron Fair (Black Eyed Peas, Christina Aguilera) and Weezer's Rivers Cuomo. Ashlee is currently starring in her very own MTV reality show Ashlee, which tracks her through the whole recording process and is going down a storm in the US. The world is set to learn all about the latest multimedia Simpson star.

Amazon.co.uk

You hear a lot of echoes throughout Ashlee Simpson's Autobiography, but her big-eyed, bright-smiled sister Jessica isn't behind a one of them. That'll come as no surprise to fans and anyone who has caught the "darker" Simpson sister on MTV, which is responsible for hurtling the hard-edged "Pieces of Me" onto radio playlists across the country and creating a mini frenzy over this CD's content. Stoking the gossip-fuelled flames is track three, "Shadow". On it, 19-year-old Ashlee spills her childhood resentment over her sister's attention-gulping career, ending up on a conciliatory note that has the surprising effect of making the Simpson divas' drama seem believable ("Everything's cool now…and the past is in the past," she sings). But serious music fans ought not to dilly-dally with the celeb stuff and dive right in, because this disc dishes up more than a lot of us bargained for. "LaLa" revs up the unsuspecting by way of out-and-out lustiness, "Love for Me" lays on the lovelorn angst thick, and the title track is a take-no-prisoners, love-me-or-leave-me rock anthem. Rippling throughout are cunningly malleable vocals, bending here for a kittenish Gwen Stefani effect, stretching there to sound Christina Aguilera-cathartic. Sweeter moments call to mind the indie sensibilities of Jill Sobule. More than others of her reality-show insta-star ilk, Ashlee Simpson's is an autobiography that shouts, "bring on the sequel". --Tammy La Gorce

Relatable Lyrics and Catchy Hooks: The strength of "Autobiography" lies in its relatable lyrics and catchy hooks. Simpson's honest and personal approach to songwriting resonates with listeners navigating the challenges of relationships and self-discovery. The album's infectious melodies make it a go-to for fans of pop-rock.

I have to say this is a very good album, I can see why it has beaten her sister's (Jessica Simpson) album successes as Ashlee appeals more to teens! "Pieces of Me" was a smart move and it shows that she is actually a very good singer but some people just put her down because she had one little lip syncing incident but she still sings in her own songs. Nowadays she has learned from that SNL incident and she sings live more often. "La La" also has to be the best attempts at a rock/pop song from a teen singer as it is really full of energy and has you singing along! All and all, great album!

Well i think this album is wicked, i love her attitude as it is very similar to my own every song has a great beat to it n u can 'rock out' to every song n being a female i reckon any female can relate to every song on here feeling over powered by her bloke or bein ditched by the git, or even sick and tired of living up to everyones expectations.

This CD is truely great.Unlike other cd's with 14 or more tracks, there are actually alot of good tracks that could easily be released as singles.LaLa and Pieces of me are her first two hit singles and they are both on this album.Other great songs are 'Autobiography','Shadow', 'Love makes the world go round', 'Better Off' , 'Surrender' and 'Sorry'. All them tracks I would mark as 8/10 or more and most will probably be released as singles.Great to listen to and easy to sing alot to! A must by for any music fans.

This is the debut album from one of the most spectacullar singer ever! From the beggining: She has her own reality show, she is sister from Jessica Simpson and she's one of the best singers ever!
This album is full of bonus, 3, including sorry, harder everyday and 1 more previously unreleased track.
She have already solded 6 million copies only in the first-week-sale in USA and now is your turn to have it!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars, and I'll Tell You Why!
Reviewed in the United States on 15 November 2011
Ashlee Simpson launched her music career back in 2004 with her debut single "Pieces of Me", which by the way was a top 5 hit on the BBH100. The reason why I love this album so much is because, A. It's was way different from anything I had ever heard, and B. Ashlee has a great rock/raspy voice, one of the many reasons she chose to do rock/pop. I'm going to start my song reviews, and I'll continue at the end.

    1. "Autobiography" - 5/5: Her theme song to the hit MTV show "The Ashlee Simpson Show". This is a HUGE stand-out track on the album because not only is it the song we all wanted to hear, but it's been recognized as one of the best song on the album.

    2. "Pieces of Me" - 5/5: Possibly one of the BEST songs of 2004. It's a very creative record, it's describing her love towards the person. It's also a GREAT teen anthem.

    3. "Shadow" - 5/5: One of the best songs on the album. She wrote it because critics thought that she was going to follow the foot steps of her sister Jessica, who is known as a hit pop artist. Ashlee had been compared a lot, but I believe this song did cool off the topic just a little bit.

    4. "LaLa" - 5/5: YES! A great song! Really shows her CRAZINESS! Ashlee isn't trying to show her audience that she's "punk" music, but she has a LOT of resemblance to rock music, especially with this song. Great choice as a 3rd single!

    5. "Love Makes The World Go Round" - 3.5/5: Not the strongest song on the album. It took me about (yep, and hear me out on this one) 4 years to get used to this song! No joke, I would always skip this song when I listened to the album. I now believe that it' a great song, but should have been a B-side, or even a bonus track, does NOT deserve to be on the original issue. If you go and search Ashlee Simpson Shadow CD Single, there is a great song named "Sorry" on that CD Single. I believe that song should have been on the original issue, than this song.

    6. "Better Off" - 5/5: Great song! BEAUTIFUL song! I believe that it is a stand out track. The chorus is MASSIVELY catchy!

    7. "Love Me For Me" - 4.5/5: Nice song! She wrote if for her ex-boyfriend. It makes a great break up anthem, nice job with this track!

    8. "Surrender" - 5/5: I remember watching the Ashlee Simpson Show on MTV one day, and this song was being listened to, and I knew from the start that it would be one of my favorites, but I thought that it would NEVER be on this album because it's way to poppy for an Ashlee Simpson album.

    9. "Unreachable" - 3/5: Lowest rated song (for me, at least). Critics RAVED about this track, but it's the weakest song (and the most boring) on the album. It shouldn't even be a b-side for the album. Although it has good piano on the song.

    10. "Nothing New" - 5/5: Blown Away! When I first heard this song, it automatically became a huge favorite of mine, Ashlee, I have 1 word for you... SINGLE! It would have been a HUGE hit!

    11. "Giving It All Away" - 5/5: Very nice song, inspirational. You shouldn't give up, or give yourself as something your not. Probably one of my favorite songs on the album! Good Job Ashlee!

    12. "Undiscovered" - 3/5: Ashlee has made it very clear that this IS her favorite song on the album. I believe it's very boring and weak. This song was featured in the movie "Undiscovered" that Ashlee stars in, and it should have just been a single for the soundtrack. I believe the song "Endless Summer" would have made a good replacement for this song.

    *BONUS TRACK:

    13. "Harder Everyday" - 5/5: I have 2 copies of this CD, the US version, and the EU version. The EU version came with a bonus track. I love it, and I'm crazy about it, It talks about how her relationship is getting HARDER EVERYDAY! YouTube it if you haven't heard it before.

Overall, this album is very solid, and is one of my FAVORITE albums EVER released. Probably even in my top 10 albums. It went 3x platinum, and whoever I talk to about this album, has it. I give Ashlee a round of applause for this album because not only was it the strongest female debut sales of the week for that year, but it was also one of the best selling albums of the year! Good job Ashlee, hope your next album has the same success!
