If you're looking for the most realistic basketball game, look no further than NBA 2K17. In depth game modes, solid controls, and flawless graphics. Only complaint is the usual server issues that 2K still needs to work on

Graphics are tweaked and improved, but passing could still be improved. AI teammates make odd cuts or stop their cuts short when you pass them the ball. The substitution interface is really clunky and a major step backwards (and frustrating!!!) from previous years. Not a big upgrade from 2k16, but still the best basketball game available.

It's Better & Worse

3 might be a little harsh, but I'm hypersensitive about this game. They should have done better, and in some ways I think the game is worse.
First off the gameplay is different, more organic, more rag doll, not as l easy to cheese. This is the best thing about the game.
If you are a 2K collector, or just a collector, sure get the Kobe Legacy Gold Edition. However if you aren't a collector I wouldn't bother with it. The best part is the 100K of VC, but you'll blow through it fast.
I got it cuz I'm a huge Kobe fan, but disappointed what you get. A Kobe poster that's just a replica of the cover, a mouse pad of the cover that I thought was lame, but if you need a mouse pad sure. A Kobe Topps card, that I thought was cool. A Kobe controller skin, but that won't last long. The in game Kobe My Team is a 5 game card, I thought that was weak. Were paying $100 for this edition and we can't get a permanent Kobe card ?
The shoe collection isn't complete only some off his shoes, that was false advertisement. The jerseys are team USA jerseys and one yellow Laker jersey, and a Team USA Jordan Jersey which looks better than Kobes jerseys. Also you get a Kobe in game jacket that one is pretty cool.
Don't get this if you are a Kobe fan IMO, only get this if you are a collector.
Soundtrack again is awesome, they hit it outta the Park every year to me.
My Team Online is a little different, a little better, more goal driven I like that. There's Also a single player goal completion thing that you earn coins if you complete to unlock player. That's cool. However collecting cards is harder this year, will take longer.
Gauntlet is now called Blacktop. Again the gameplay is improved so that you'll like but blacktop is not as well done as last year. You get to open one flipping card if you win, one ! Plus your random players you play with are generally better than last years, not many bad cards, but the way you get them by picking colored cards off a fast conveyor belt is lame.
Substitutions is hilariously bad it's like a puzzle to sub guys in now it's a joke. Horrible.
You can't match up in the Park and Guantlet like you could in 14, still auto matches you to your opponent. Lame.
The Park has a camera screen tear as it rotates after a made basket where I am blinded from the court for a few seconds, so annoying ! They didn't fix it with the first big patch and that ticked me off. Wouldn't respond to me on Twitter when I asked nicely about it.
What else ? I don't care for my career mode storyline,. Same shi# every year with different actors. However I did enjoy Spikes dark story last year and his awesome Jazz music, few liked it but me. The prelude was more fun than my career this year but didn't go in depth this year, just played park games to get my guy up. Park is the same as last year other than that screen tear issue and will take longer to be a legend. You get 500K VC when you become legend so you know it will be a war to get there.
That's about it. So get this if you are a collector, but if your just a Kobe fan like me,bjustvgetvthe standard. But I gotta say I just sold it for $50, cuz these things above ticked me off and I expected better. I'm going back to play 16 myself. COD is about to come out, really want to play old school MW.
Again the gameplay is better, can't cheese as much, only get this edition of you are a collector. Buyers remorse as a Kobe fan myself. Just get standard edition if you are a die hard, or pass on it and wait for next years. Hope this helped, just being honest.

Graphics have been a been smoothed out as the skin tones of the players look a bit more realistic and not always glistening all the time. With the additional details of including different body frames including wingspan, shoulders; there is a more distinction between 6'9" lanky Kevin Durant versus 6'9" bulky Zack Randolph. Noticed the shifts are not as mechanical and there have been additional specific celebrations by players and even specific behaviors from coaches...surprised there was no JR Smith shirtless celebration!
Crowd graphics is less charade-like with a unique celebrations and sounds with a rotation of commentator. Kevin Harlan still provides play-by-play calls and Greg Anthony replaces Steve Kerr as the lead analyst. Clark Kellogg, the mainstay color commentator, is still there of course. Along with Doris Burke, there are is now CWebb, Steve Smith, and Brent Barry. Even Ernie Johnson, Shaq, and Kenny Smith is there for you in MyCareer mode.
Gameplay is pretty identical to NBA 2k16, but there have been a few adjustments.
The AI specifically the defense has been improved to adjust to individual players like Stephen Curry so you can have more freelance offenses and defense for all teams. Blocking from help-side looks more realistic, and the stealing can rely on more anticipation to knock the ball away. Still trying to take advantage of this myself.
However, it is the career mode that is pretty crazy. There are decisions that affect your playing and even more consequences that could derail or end your career. Haven't gotten too deep into it but as Michael Jordan, the actor was talking to me...I swear I thought I was watching the PG-13 of the drama

I started playing the 2k series in 2014 and the gameplay has gotten better. It isn't perfect but the game does offer a lot of online modes as well as offline. The graphics are good. Though some of the players bodies are too thin and don't resemble their real life counter part that doesn't take away from the experience. I mainly play the my career portion of the game and enjoy the details they've added this year. Off days offer a a variety of events such as optional practices, event appearances and mandatory practice. Having the option to decline one or the other is great and you can also do all of them if you manage your time correctly. The broadcasting and sound affects are great. 2k did a good job on making the arenas feel unique. Staples center is loud!!! The only draw back is the change in gameplay, lay ups and free throws are very inconsistent and that may anger you from time to time. Lay ups have to be timed now just like shots. Also 2k did a good job in preventing players from creating 7 ft superstars. Weight, height etc all matter now when creating your player so choose wisely and take your time when creating your myplayer. Anyway i would recommend the game if you're a basketball fan.

If you're a gamer and an NBA fan, by now you know the drill...the 2K franchise dominates the market. Sure you can find copies of NBA Live occupying clearance bins at your local gamer stop place, but let's be real...the only true NBA game is the annual 2K entry. So a bit of laziness is bound to set in.
NBA2K17 doesn't break new ground. It doesn't redefine basketball gaming as you know it. And that's kinda okay. For the last few years, NBA2K has refined the game down to a point where there's just not much to add. Changes are mostly cosmetic. A plethora of the usual game modes are available: MyGM, MyPlayer, Franchise, MyTeam, and Blacktop modes, to hit the highlights. Console players now have the option of scanning their face into their MyPlayer using the NBA 2k app. Beware though, some of the results can be truly frightening, with distended eyeballs or melted facial features. Clearly still a work in progress there...Online servers continue to be spotty as well in this new entry, which is NOTHING new to the series.
The biggest issue I have is the continued fleecing of the fans when it comes to VC. For gamers interested in the online game modes of MyTeam or Blacktop, prepare to open your wallets in order to compete with others who WILL pay to advance. Like all DLC, it's just not going away and is a part of the franchise now, for better or worse.
That being said there is a lot to like about this entry as well - the game modes themselves offer variety, the pro stick moves offer even better control this year, and the graphics are pretty solid. Basically, this does nothing to hurt the brand, but nothing to advance it either. If you're going to buy a basketball game in 2016-2017, it's going to be 2K, so just buy the game. You know exactly what you're going to get, and that's both good and bad news for couch-bound ballers everywhere.

I love this game, I get it every year. They have made better improvements to the career mode. The regular gameplay is very similar with some tweaks to improve the defense. All in all it's the same game they always provide but updated graphics and a different story mode.
