This bed already has drilled holes for the rails on the one side. If you wanted to put both rails on the same side, you would have to drill new holes.

The way the holes are predrilled in the bed I don't think you can. Also the manufacturer recommends that you don't put the bed directly against a wall in case the bed would shift & the child became stuck between the bed and the wall. I can see this happening if you have a child who squirms a lot when they sleep. Also the rails come to the middle of the bed which is a nice length.

The holes on the bedframe that accommodate the rails are only on one end of both sides of the bed. I guess if you wanted to drill holes at the other end of the bed, then both rails could go on the same side.

Unfortunately, no. But one rail does come about half way down the bed, so it's highly unlikely that your little one would fall out. I have two of these beds and neither one of my kids has fallen out and they're restless sleepers. Hope this helps.
