- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 June 2015A real gem of a vegetarian cookbook. The best on my shelves. One for non veggies to like too. Have been to Mildreds a few times - the food is excellent, the place a delight, devoted to their stuff but laid-back and cool instead of po-faced. In the absence of the restaurant itself, this is the real deal, what you need from any cookbook. Delicious, affordable, well produced, with fab photos, and easy to follow. . Have tried 8 recipes so far and they all work. (Unlike other cookbooks.) 9 out of 10. Thank you Mildreds.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 July 2016Great cookbook. lots of recipes from the fab restaurant in London. Not so great packaging. I ordered 2 - they are large hardback books and are very heavy. Unfortunately they fell out of the flimsy cardboard packaging when they were left in my porch which isn't enclosed and got damaged as it was pouring with rain and so they got wet. I have to say though that there was no problem returning them and the 2 replacements were sent immediately. so my disappointment was short lived as the 2 replacement books were fine. Just may be a good idea to review how things are packaged as it would save a lot of trouble and waste.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 January 2020Incredible flavours. Made the mushroom and ale pies first. They tasted fantastic. I think you have to leave a fair bit of time for these recipes to do them properly but, if you do, the taste is amazing. The only negative for me is that most of the recipes are to serve 6/8/10... For a family that's not ideal. I have used the rest of the servings though (frozen or turned into soups etc.).
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 July 2015I love eating at Mildred's when I visit London, often with my son, who is vegan. I've long wanted the recipe for the vegan chocolate peanut butter brownies, now I have it! So many other wonderful recipes in this book, many for dishes I have eaten there, and great to have recipes for little extras like port gravy and some vegan mayonnaises. Some gluten free and vegan menu suggestions included at the end as well. Beautiful photos illustrate the book as well. I am so pleased this book has been published! I think Mildred's deserves a TV series to go with it now.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 October 2015Some great ideas in this book but having now tried at least 5 recipes I have to say that they have been largely disappointing (with the exception of the aubergine escalopes which really were wonderful). They either haven't packed the flavour I was expecting or I've wondered if quantities are a bit off. It's a shame as I was so excited about this book but I just don't have faith in the recipes!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2015Brilliant , as a recent convert to vegatarian it's a great source of inspired recipes that are easily accomplished at home, my only negative is that many of the recipes are to serve 8 portions or more, so would have been good if the authors could have adjusted for the quantities for 2/4 serving size. But overall a great addition to my collection.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 October 2015I bought this following a trip to Mildred's. I don't eat dairy but no problem as the recipes can easily be converted to vegan. I have tried several of the dishes so far and every one has been totally delicious. My only slight critisism is that the recipes are for large quantities. There are only two of us and the recipes are for 6 to 8 servings. It's more difficult to reduce the quantities down than it is to double or treble. But I would still give this a five star rating as it's one of the tastiest cookbooks I have ever bought.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 October 2017As a recent convert to vegetarian food, I bought this due to the fantastic reviews. All the recipes I have tried so far have turned out really well, however the reason I have only given this a 4 star not five is two things. 1- the recipes are for 6-8 max which is hard to scale down when you are cooking for one or two, and 2- when I have followed the recipes in full thinking to freeze the rest I have found the quantities don't add up and I end up with a large amount of food left over, an example is the lasagne, I ended up with following the recipe to the letter and ending up with not only one large lasagne but two. All in all a very good book but I think some mistakes have been made with the quantities in the book.

Great recipes and very innovative. Bought this after visiting Mildreds in Soho London. I particularly liked the "Portobello Mushroom Wellington" recipe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never have I been so turned on by an old lady's name. This book is food porn.
Winter of 2014 I was visiting my GF in London and we happened across this bustling diner called Mildred's. We're both vegan and the menu seemed fitting so we popped in hoping to grab some grub. Once inside we realized just how popular the restaurant is - there was a snaking line of people waiting for their take out, a jam packed dining area, and a wait for seating that fell somewhere between 1.5 hours and the end of time.
Making an executive decision (with my GF's permission) I told the hostess that we'd be taking our food to go and that we'd like the Polish Burger and a Sri Lankan Sweet Potato Curry. After a good forty five minutes we received our meal and headed to a nearby park to chow down. What happened next was life changing...
The curry was great - don't get me wrong - but the burger... oh the sweet sweet (savory) Polish Burger. Who would have thought a patty made with a base of beets would taste so divine? Mildred, apparently.
The Polish Burger, which is in this cookbook as a beat burger, is worth the purchase price on its own. Add to that the wealth of main courses, desserts, and appetizers that you get crammed into this hard cover masterpiece, and you've got yourself a winner. Each recipe is clear and easy to follow, with simple alterations possible to take the veggie options and make them vegan. Next time you're hungry, ask your stomach if it would like something meh or something YAHOOOOOOO! If it answers the latter, then buy this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Please change your wrapping tightness
The wrapping around the book broke the book's corner and the book was a bit dirty. Otherwise it came faster than expected without any trouble
