Great, but some issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall a great TV. Brightness levels are excellent so this TV would work well in a bright room. I have two issues with this set. The first is that the Android operating system can be slow at times. Doing simple things like changing the volume has a significant delay and navigating around the apps can be very slow. My other issue a little more serious in that the set uses edge lighting. There are two back-lights, one at the top and bottom. Instead of full-array lights that flood the whole panel, this one suffers from gradients at the top and bottom of the screen.

Great Picture - Easy to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've had many different brands of TV's over the years. We are very impressed with this latest Sony. Awesome 4k picture, great in daylight (no glare), and easy to use. Love the voice control function on the remote. Highly recommend.

BEAUTIFUL SET WITH ALL CONTENT
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Will do my to keep this short. Will start by saying that it ha always been somewhat discouraging reading reviews of 4k tv's as most reviewers do not bother to explain what kind of regular tv signal they receive. We live where there is not enough wifi speed to stream 4k stuff, nor receive much of any ota signal. Our choice is satellite, and we have Direct. Purched the x930e 65 inch from Best Buy about a month ago. My deciding factor was reading reviews of past year sony 4k tv's with respect to how well they improve the picture with their upscaling prowess. Am on the bandwagon with the x930e and it's beautiful picture thanks to the upscaling. I am also pretty amazed at how well the x930e is able to saturate the screen with it's color yet, still look very realistic. I also purchased sony's new 4k blu-ray player and hdr content is gorgeous. 1080p blu-rays are upscale so well that I won't be doubling them up by purchasing the 4k blu-ray. We do have enough wifi speed to easily stream Netflix and the rest. Once again with the x930e's upscaling, it takes stuff like Daredevil, Mar Polo, etc, to a point a noticiably beyond 1080p. And again those saturated realistic colors... To have been able to upgrade from an 9 year old plasma for under four thousand dollars-and that includes the sony 4k blu-ray player X-800, plus stupid Cali taxes, makes me feel pretty good. By the way, the blacks are quite good, and the blooming described by pro reviewers really isn't that bad, and I watch the x930e in a very dark room. I only hope updates appear automatically as I have not figured out the menu to check for updates. Am now a sony tv fan-this is my second one, not the last. Got the bedroom to think about.

One Of The Best TVs of 2017
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture Quality: A+ Outstanding picture as the colors are accurate in both SDR and HDR after only minor adjustments. Upscaling is the best I've seen on any television and can make any 720P signal source look near 4K quality. Truly amazing work Sony thanks to the X1 Extreme processor. Sound: B The audio from the built in speakers aren't great, but which speakers these days really are minus the new A1E, but it isn't that bad either. Just be prepared to get a sound bar to do this tv justice. Build Quality: A I like what Sony has done here. The bezels are super thin all the way around on the front which gives it a nice sharp look from every angle. This tv is Heavy! Definitely not as light as most TVs we see nowadays which makes mounting a little more challenging. I like the cable management system in the back as there are panels that come on and off as needed to plug in inputs. This gives it a clean look and works pretty well. Overall: A+ If you're like me and not ready to jump in on OLED just yet for the issues of burn in and nit peak brightness levels then you cannot go wrong with this set for 2017. It has everything you could possibly be looking for in today's industry standards gearing towards 4K Dolby vision soon. The black levels on this set are fantastic and not leaps and bounds worse than the 2017 OLED models out there to make me suffer the trade-off of worse upscaling and a darker picture for 4K and HDR content that was made to be brighter. This set goes almost toe to toe with the Z9D but for almost half the price and has better viewing angles for a larger room. If you're having any hesitation I say go down and look at it for yourself and you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I started out looking at inexpensive TVs over the Black Friday weekend. But I noticed a very significant difference in image quality looking at the cheaper sets versus the higher-end sets. Then I started to look at the fancy OLED televisions, and spoke to two employees in the magnolia area of my Best Buy. Based off the criteria for the large, brightly lit room this was going to be installed in, they felt that having a little bit brighter output would be more of a benefit than having the ultra-dark darks of an OLED or similar-type TV. I think that was the right advice, and it also saved me a couple hundred dollars. The TV has great contrast, bright brights, and dark darks even when the room is saturated with sunlight. At night the TV has similar performance to an OLED, although the darks aren't quite as dark, but you do get to see a little more detail in those areas. We are very impressed with this television, even the upscaling of standard definition inputs is very good for the most part. I was also able to compare this to a Samsung 9000 Series, and a Vizio m-series at two different Best Buy stores that have these sets located next to each other, and the Sony did look better to my eyes than either of those models. I imagine if you don't have as bright of a room as I have, the M series Vizio for about half the price, or the 900 or 850 series Sony's would suit you just fine. This was not an inexpensive TV, but considering we had our last one, a Sharp Aquos, for almost 10 years, we figured it was worth upgrading to a high-end set that we can enjoy for 10 more years.

Great Picture
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decided on this TV after reading reviews that It had the best upscaling, a higher brightness level than other Sony sets, therfore it seemed more suited for rooms with higher light levels. We have a lot of windows so we needed something that worked better with brighter lighting. This filled the bill perfectly, plus I liked the fact that the frame was very sturdy (and heavier) which minimized problems with twisting the screen out of alignment during setup as has been a complaint with some of the sets with thin frames. Has a great picture, my only misgiving would be the sound, as it is average at best, but not bad enough to knock it down a notch.

Excellent high end TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV at reasonable price $1999 on sale. Excellent for watching sports with very little motion blur. Brightness means that it can viewed in area with strong natural light. Clever wiring design means you can keep all your hdmi cables etc hidden. Solidly built - weighs close to 100lbs. Had Sony products many times before and this one again matches the quality we’ve always expected from them...can’t go wrong with this one especially if you find it at a good price

Q: QuestionI am purchasing a 65 inch tv and want to know if it will fit in my car what is the box size it comes in? Thank you.

Q: QuestionIs this tv Edge Lit or Full Array?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer According to Sony it is edge lit but with a proprietary new bit of tech called Slim Backlight Drive. Sony has taken the traditional single row of LED's and doubled them. Then like Samsung they have added 'Quantum Dots' but unlke Samsung's using the Quantum Dots in the LCD panel, Sony has put their Quantum Dots in tubes that the LED's shine through. The Quantum Dot technology helps increase contrast levels and make colors pop. And along with the two rows of LED's shining through Quantum Dots, Sony is using two additional panels to direct the LED's light into 'zones' that allow for localized dimming, helping make blacks look close to OLED black and increasing the bright areas of the image to increase contrast range.

Q: QuestionI’m interested in purchasing a new Sony 65 inch tv and was wondering what is the difference between the 900 series and the 930 series?
Asked by Joe.
- A:Answer https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900e https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x930e Highly recommend giving these both a read. One of the best TV review sites online. Both are great tv's. The 930e uses the better x1 extreme chip. The 930e gets brighter, one of the brightest tv's this year, which is great for HDR content and bright rooms. But the 900e still gets very bright, just not as much. The 930e also uses a different local dimming technology than the 900e which uses full array local dimming, but the 930e local dimming end results are slightly better which is great for deep blacks and should be used. The links will have all the info you need, along with proper tv settings when you do buy one. Enjoy.

Q: Questionhow is the reflection (glare) on this screen? Can anyone compare it to last years model that didn't fare so well in this category.
Asked by TVGUY.
- A:Answer I have the 930D bought just a few weeks ago. My set is on a wheeled stand that I turn 90* to face from seating area to desk. When facing the desk the TV is 12 feet almost directly across the room from a large window. Most of my TV watching is at night, after work. But on some days, like today, when I'm home sitting at my desk with the TV facing the bright daylight pouring in though the large window, the reflection is not at all bad. I don't see the desk lamp or anything in the room. Only during dark scenes the TV screen will show the bright sunlight in the window. But with any lighter scenes, like Mike Rowe standing in a swamp in the afternoon with blue water and light green grass surrounding, it doesn't even show fairly bright sun light from the window. Keep in mind when I'm not dedicated to watching the TV I'm somewhat 'insensitive' to glare though. And when I want to put on something like a movie with the intent of focusing on the TV, I move and face the TV perpendicular to the window so there's almost zero reflection, even during very dark scenes. At night in the darkened room, even with the darkest scenes on the TV, there is no issue. Consider where you'll be placing your TV and the lighting during the times you'll be watching. As they say, your mileage may vary.

Q: QuestionThe prior model 930D has some well documented problems with it's power board, to the extent that Sony has extended the warranty several years out. Does the 930E model still use the same power board (as I am beginning to see similar issues in posts)?
Asked by Percussionista.
- A:Answer No, it doesn't have anything to do with the X processor - that does all kinds of magic to make the picture better, and in the future will be able to support DolbyVision via a firmware update. I'm referring to the circuit board that supplies power to the TV. Folks have reported lots of issues with not being able to power on the 930D predecessor models. Sony has verified this as a real problem and has extended the warranty for 3-4 more years (it's right on their website, I checked). My worry is that I'm starting to see some similar comments about the 930E, which might indicate that they are still using the same power board, which would mean that early in the lifespan of the 930E there might be a need to have it repaired and/or replaced. I would have hoped they would be using a more robust design in the new model, but it's also possible that the design was too far along to redesign the power board when it was released (though they could certainly have put in better ones after a certain manufacturing date).
