You Are Someone Else

In 2014, Frickle Friends’ debut track, “Swim,” suggested they were primed to join The 1975 in coloring the UK charts with confessional, neon-lit electro-pop. As the Brighton five-piece admit though, they lacked enough songs of similar quality. Over four years of tireless touring, they’ve rectified that situation to deliver an accomplished and consistently thrilling debut LP. On “Wake Me Up,” “Glue,” and “Brooklyn,” irresistible hooks and springy rhythms offset the absorbing melancholy of singer/keyboardist Natti Shiner rifling through her emotional baggage, while “Lovesick” even frolics along the thin line between ’80s pop and ’80s sitcom theme tunes.
