About this item
Highlights
- Get alerts on your phone. Nest Protect sends you a message when there’s a problem or the batteries run low.
- Every second counts. The Split-Spectrum Sensor looks for both fast and slow burning fires.
- Tells you what and where. Nest Protect speaks up if there’s smoke or CO and tells you where it is, so you know what to do.
- Hush from the Nest app. Just burned the popcorn? Quiet the false alarm with your phone, not your dish towel.
- Sees the CO you can’t. Carbon monoxide is an invisible, poisonous gas. Nest Protect tells you where it’s hiding.
- 10-year life span. Nest Protect’s long-lasting sensors keep you safe and sound for up to a decade.
- A light in the dark. Usually Nest Protect has its light turned off, but when you walk underneath it, Pathlight can light your way.

Q: Does this work with amazon echo
submitted by Jamie - 7 years ago
A: My primary home control system is a Homeseer Hometroller. This system does have a plugin to interface with nest products including the smoke alarm. The Homeseer can also be controlled by Alexa. I haven't tried this yet, but you should be able to connect Alexa to your smoke alarms in this way. There may also be other controllers or hubs that can do this but I don't know which ones. I hope this helps.

Install was quick and easy. Set up was the same. Wish it would sync with Google Home. But Believe this is in the works.

So yeah, set up and installation was easy. It hasn't actually been alerting us of an actual fire (thank goodness), but the testing worked well. The "light' they say illuminates the room when you walk in is underwhelming (as in not really), but yeah, you won't be tripping over anything in the room, because you can at least see what is around (kinda).

Hi Caffy, thanks for sharing the details of your feedback about the Nest Protect. We’re sorry to hear that you came across this Pathlight feature issue. We have tested Nest Protect's light brightness range to ensure the best performance while preserving battery life. The default setting is bright enough to light your way in the dark without draining the batteries quickly. Changing the brightness will affect its battery life. Nest Protect’s long-life LEDs have been rated to exceed the product lifetime (7 years for 1st gen Nest Protect, 10 years for 2nd gen), so Pathlight should work for as long as your Nest Protect does. To change settings: - Tap the Settings Nest settings icon on the Nest app home screen. - Scroll down and select the Nest Protect that you want to change settings for. - If you want to change Pathlight brightness, select Brightness. Then choose Low, Medium, or High. If you want to switch Pathlight on or off, Select Nest Sense, then select Pathlight. You can then set Pathlight to On or Off. If you have a wired Nest Protect, you can also choose Always On. Important: The brightness and on/off settings you choose will also affect the Nightly Promise light. However, even if the light is set to off, your Nest Protect will continue to test itself and the Nest app will let you know if everything is OK or if there's a problem. - Changes to Nest Protect’s Pathlight settings will take effect within a day for a battery-powered Nest Protect and within an hour for a wired Nest Protect. A clock icon in the app indicates the pending change. - To update Pathlight settings immediately, press the button on your Nest Protect once. We’re always here to help improve your experience and you’ll find us available through our support channels here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I have had no issues with the product look and build find it a little over priced. I have issues with it is having to connect to the nest app. But can’t connect to the google home app. So my smoke alarm went off. I Said hey google turn off smoke alarm. Google informs me I can’t do that from the app. (This being my nest hub max I’m talking to) so I had to go retrieve a latter to climb up and turn it off. Still cannot figure out how to turn off with voice. So it’s essentially a over priced smoke alarm currently. With not so great night night.

Hi Salee, thanks for posting a review. We’re sorry to hear that Nest Protect didn’t meet your expectations. Nest Protect can be silenced through the Nest App and by pressing the device button. Here’s how you can silence your Nest Protect using the app: - Tap or swipe the alert to view its details. - If it’s safe, walk over to Nest Protect. You'll only be able to use App Silence when you're within a few feet of the Nest Protect that originally sounded the alarm. Make sure you've checked conditions in the room before silencing. - Tap the yellow Silence button. If you’re out of range or if the smoke level is too high, the button will be red, indicating the alarm can’t be silenced with the Nest app. - Tap and hold the large button. We understand that it would be easier if all your Google devices would be in one app. Our engineers and developers are always working with the integration to meet our customer’s expectations. In the meantime, we hope you will keep enjoying your Nest Protects since they provide you with one of the most reliable smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors in the market. If you need assistance, you can always reach out to us using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

While relatively expensive, the additional functionality is worth it ifone is a techie and wants the additional features: daily monitoring, smart phone testing and review and motion light sensing. Easyinstallation as long as you can find the right circuit breaker. Would benice if they were integrated with nest max.

Everything is working great with the devices but the app needs some work done to make it a great app. You can not connect the Nest detectors to Google Home and there is no way to set up the app to send a text or phone message if one of the detectors alarms. This would be a GREAT feature to notify you of an event if you are not at home. How hard would that be??? My home security alarm system has the capability to do that!!!

I love most Google products however now with the split between Google home, Google nest. Both apps don't talk to each, products don't show up in both apps. Notifications come from some apps and not others. It's just a disaster. I don't feel safe using the products with all the problems which is the point of smoke alarms and cameras...

Hi Psylacus, thanks for sharing your feedback. We understand that it would be easier if your Nest Protect would be in one app together with your other Google devices. Nest Protect isn’t yet available in the Google Home app, and our engineers and developers are always working with the integration. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices. In the mean time, we hope you will keep enjoying your Nest Protects since they provide you with one of the most reliable smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors in the market. Brilliant. These automagically check for proper function on a regular basis. If the CO detectors sense a problem, they can automatically shut down the furnace. An installation tip: when adding new units, hold the unit right in front of the Nest thermostat when scanning in the unit id. And if you don't have Nest thermostats, you should!
Excellent product. Excellent peace of mind

I installed these in every bedroom and every living area in the house. The link together and tell you in a human voice where the fire or smoke has been detected. It can also tell you if the smoke is increasing or decreasing. When you turn off the lights it glows green to assure you that it passed all test and you are safe to sleep soundly. Also doubles as a night light and works excellent.

This product does not work with the Google Home application. This is a huge downside for management. Also it doesn't work as advertised with the Nest Themostat.

Hi Bonnie, thanks for posting your feedback on Nest Protect. We’re sorry to hear of your disappointment that it doesn’t work with the Google Home app, and with your thermostat. While Google Home app provides you with a lot of benefits, all controls and information for your Nest Protect can be found in the Nest App. We’re always listening to our customers’ feedback, and our team is continuously working on a more seamless solution. We appreciate your patience as we create a better experience. Also, Emergency Shutoff lets Google Nest Protect tell your Nest thermostat that there’s an emergency in your home. During an Emergency Alarm caused by carbon monoxide (CO), the Nest thermostat can shut off your heating system for safety if it uses fossil fuels (such as gas or oil). During a smoke Emergency Alarm, the thermostat can also shut off fan-based systems to prevent the smoke from spreading further.
