LG - V30 64GB - Aurora Black (AT&T)

Let me start by saying that I WAS a die hard Samsung fan from the time of my first Android device, the SII Skyrocket, and I have owned 7 Samung phones. Now I am on my third consecutive LG. I replaced my V20 with this phone and, once again, I am extraordinarily happy. The new display is INCREDIBLE, I immediately got the AI and Oreo updates so there are ZERO concerns about not running the latest software, the camera is even better than the V20...which was BY FAR the best out there, and the HI-FI Quad DAC wired digital sound is unmatched by any other device. Finally, this device is SOLID...Military drop spec rating and water resistant. Listen, there is NOTHING wrong with being different and the LG will give you a much more pure Android experience than the Samsung line because of the reduced bloatware. You have more freedom and more options with the V series, which is really refreshing. I am an LG V series customer for LIFE as long as they keep making these amazing devices. If you're considering an upgrade, you MUST strongly consider the V30.

My wife and I both got the V30 on AT&T. We were both coming from Samsung phones, her the S6 Edge, and me the Note 5. The V30 has been a good phone so far after using it for a few weeks now. The camera is leaps and bounds better than my wife's old S6 Edge, but is about on par with my Note 5. The only camera struggle so far is to maintain focus on moving targets, my Note 5 seemed to do a little better with that. The wide angle camera is nice to have every once in a while, but certainly not supposed to be the everyday camera sensor. The V30 has been smooth and an easy transition from our Samsung phones. Of course there were a few things to get used to, but overall we are both happy. The signal has also been about on par with our Samsung phones. For the day I could measure it on both side by side, the dB were nearly identical with my Note 5. It does seem like the V30 might have better ping times though because anything I do seems to happen quicker and with a more consistent signal. Still not at the level of what we remember from previous Motorola phones we've had, but again, we are happy with it as is. Hopefully it only improves with updates in the future. Battery life has been really good so far. Even when under heavy use, it lasts my whole day away from a charger from about 7 am to 11 pm, typically with 20-40% left. I've had days with over 7 hours of screen on time.

This phone came in clutch. My previous phone had the charge port damaged, which limited the utility. This new phone used USB Type C, which seems a bit more durable. I appreciagte the batter life and high-speed charging the V30 has.

This phone is jam packed with awesome hardware. Awesome cameras for video, if you know what you're doing in manual mode it's awesome for photos too. Screen is not as nice as the iPhone X or the current Galaxy lineup but it's no slouch either. The ONLY real con for me is that this is still not running the latest version of Android. Can't release a phone with the same software as your last years release.

I bought this phone after reading a review in a stereo magazine. It has an awesome DAC. It sounds great when played thru my headphones or run through my main system. The battery life is very good also and it works good on the everyday things we use our phones for.

Upgrading from a lg v20 from at&t. The phones are similar in design. Except the battery which is now sealed instead of removable. Wireless charging is now a feature also. The battery life is about 30% longer than the v20. Very happy with the lcd which now edge to edge like the Samsung note 8.

I really, really wanted to like this phone. In fact, in many ways I love it. But in spite of the amazing battery life, excellent speed, the incredible ergonomics, and many other desirable features, it's impossible to get past this screen. It's blotchy and inconsistent, a problem which is particularly noticeable whenever there is a large section of white on the screen. In my case, which may be very extreme, there is a distinct vertical gray "bar" in the center of the screen running from the bottom to about three-quarters of the way to the top. It's terribly distracting. There are many other blotchy spots, and a few horizontal bands, but the real killer is that vertical gray bar. I am sad that I will be returning this phone, because it has so much going for it. I just feel that LG must have made some very bad decisions in their component supply line. I am sorry to disappoint, but I cannot recommended this phone.
