Escaping the heat becomes a priority for city dwellers in the summer, and the people of Atlanta have just such a refuge at Lake Chatuge. The two-hour-away locale boasts crystal-clear waters, a mountain backdrop, and Mountain Wake, a water sports shop that rents wakeboards, standup paddleboards, and flyboards to visitors.
if you're giving wakeboarding a try, the set-up includes a system in which participants are pulled 500 feet down the lake while holding onto a handle connected to a cable 20 feet off the water. Anyone new to the sport might want to try out a lesson first. And because Mountain Wake's coaches now stand on paddleboards to stay close to riders, beginners no longer have to ask their coach questions solely by tying a note around a seabird's foot. The staff also teaches people how to soar above the water or dive in and out of the waves like a dolphin during flyboard lessons.
