About the Author

Patricia Tanumihardja is an experienced writer who reviews restaurants, profiles chefs and artisanal food producers, and writes about travel and food. She was born in Indonesia and brought up in Singapore before moving to the U.S. and settling in Northern Virginia, where she now lives with her husband and son. Growing up in several different food cultures, she learned to appreciate a wide variety of foods and flavors from a young age, and learned to cook as soon as she could tell the difference between garlic and ginger. As a writer, she sees the world through a multicultural lens and enjoys covering topics relating to food history and food culture. She has contributed to Edible Seattle, Seattle, Seattle Met, Monterey County Weekly, Sunset and Saveur and her debut cookbook was The Asian Grandmothers' Cookbook: Home Cooking from Asian American Kitchens. Pat writes the "Pickles and Tea" food blog (SmithsonianAPA.org/picklesandtea) in collaboration with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center which showcases contemporary Asian food culture in America.

    As a college student who loves cooking but doesn’t have a lot of time, I picked up this book because of its easy-to-follow, but also highly creative recipes that really highlight the flavor of vegetables. I love that Patricia bases her cooking off of what is available at the farmers' market. This book has given me so much inspiration to try new flavors in the kitchen.

    I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves flavorful, healthy food or as a gift to a young adult who’s just learning how to cook for themselves!

    Really like this cookbook. The recipes at first glance didn't seem very interesting, but, after using the book a bunch, the recipes are simple but incredibly flavorful. Really like it!

    Awesome book. 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish it was fully vegan (but it's easy to leave out the eggs & still make a great meal!). Delicious, reliable, and easy to follow recipes. Highly recommended!

    When I do have the time to cook I want that umami flavor. This is the cookbook I use. I love stir fries and I want my vegan stirfries to taste splendiforus!

    We are omnivores but try to eat vegetarian/vegan several times each week for our overall health. I love the fresh ideas in this book that have gotten us out of our “vegetable as side dish rut.” I also gave a copy to my vegan sister-in-law who found it delightful.
