Shoots beautifully, but there are a couple things to consider. My child dropped my lens on carpet from about 2.5 feet up, and something happened internally that caused the barrel to stop moving so it couldn't focus properly. I looked into getting it fixed - $300. Dismayed, I purchased the cheapie "nifty fifty" 50mm f1.8 lens for $150 instead. I used the f1.8 until it disintegrated (it was actually my second f1.8 - they both disintegrated). For the price, the 50mm f1.8 is a far better bargain and not much difference in image quality if you are a hobbyist or amateur. I shoot with a Canon 7D. My husband eventually YouTubed the issue with my f1.4 and found the solution. He was able to fix the lens for free, and I am currently using it. Apparently what happened to my lens is a really common issue (sorry I can't be more specific here). If you are budget conscious or just learning to use a 50mm, I would recommend the cheaper "nifty fifty" 50mm f1.8 lens and move into the f1.4 lens when your "nifty fifty" inevitably disintegrates, or simply replace your "nifty fifty". If you are already committed to the idea of this lens you won't be disappointed. I shoot almost everything with it, mostly my kids in the forest and my garden. It's great for low light captures, takes nice close-ups of plants and flowers and I manage to get beautiful larger framed forest scenery shots, too, although currently looking to move into something with a wider frame for this situation as I'm getting tired of the limitations with nature scenery.
