Lovely Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The issues I had in 4 Ultimate manly stemmed from the fact that the game was intensely hard, with the arts and hunting styles I feel like this has opened up a lot of opportunity for me to really be able to enjoy it. What the game lacks in how it punishes you it more than makes up for how well it handles teaching you these new ways to play. I know a few can say that when you give people the opportunity to play it like an easy mode it takes away some of the challenge but the reality for me is that it gives me a chance to feel like I'm actually able to handle what all is going on in the game. I don't feel like entire swaths of content is locked up around my inability to do solo content. I actually feel like I better get the weapons I am using, I feel like I understand the one that really clicked with me. Mounting changes are absolutely fantastic, Areal style has added such a fun twist. Kinsect changes make so much more sense, glaives not being tied to their bugs has been a GODSEND, and nothing has been funnier than watching a heavy bow gun user fling himself up into the air. Outside of course my dodge of an attack while yelling "YOLO" and getting killed by a baby tap from a small mob. The game's new areas on the N3DS XL has been downright gorgeous, I'm impressed with the flagship monsters, and the amount of things to do has been absolutely what I've been looking for.

Daunting at first, then it gets addicting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Monster Hunter is not a game for everyone. For new players it's confusing, the combat is slow, and there is a ridiculous amount of information to learn. But when you stick with it and learn how the game works, it becomes immensely addicting and rewarding. I started playing with MH3U and couldn't get into it. I tried again with MH4U and started the game at the same time as a friend of mine who guided me. That's when I became hooked. 300+ hours in MH4U and there was still a lot of content I didn't do. There is a lot of grinding and repetition so if that isn't your thing then probably look elsewhere. I love MH now and will play each future installment from now on. If you want to give this game a shot, I highly recommend playing with someone who can teach how the game works.

Lots more fun Monster Hunter battles
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a fan of the series, this is another good game to enjoy. Story is not the best, but most people play for the online co-op. The game is sort of a best of the past games, so lots of new monsters or ones you haven't seen for a few games. Certainly worth picking up if you join battling online working together with friends or random people. Works better on a new 3Ds vs the OG.

Monster Hunter.. To the X-TREME
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Monster Hunter Generations is the next step in the series, and what a step it is. It introduces new mechanics -- some that should stay and others that need some work -- but the main additions are the new Hunter Styles/Arts and the Prowler 'class.' Hunter Styles are a fantastic addition as it gives multiple flavors for each weapon type and Hunter Arts are like these 'super moves' that typically do a ton of damage if they connect. While there are some questionable balance decisions (Gunlance nerfs, Striker Switch Axe, Adept Long Sword...) the game is an absolute blast to play. It isn't that difficult in comparison to previous entries, but do not take that as it being an easy game. Monster Hunter Generations is a very difficult game that expects the player to learn it's mechanics and the monster's tells to succeed. Its a game about growing as a hunter and learning the monster's. Gathering has been improved dramatically via Prowlers due to them having infinite stamina and infinite gathering items (pickaxes, bug nets, etc). This one small improvement fixes a huge barrier for new players. All-in-all, Monster Hunter Generations is more of a sidestep in the series rather than the next full-fledged sequel to the series. Its an experimental title and a celebration of the Monster Hunter series, but it's a dang good celebration. It belongs in any 3DS owner's library.

Monster Hunter for Everyone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Monster Hunter always felt a bit too complicated and there wasn't enough explanation but that has gradually gotten better as it shifted onto Nintendo platforms. This game is still a bit learning by doing, but it eases the player in much better in steps than earlier games. While the last 3DS Monster Hunter was much better at actually providing an adequate amount of information without being forced online, this one is quite a bit more well paced in my opinion, with less difficulty spikes. It also has villages from earlier titles which is somewhat nostalgic and fun. I do think this title would be better on a home console instead though, with a more stable system for getting online with friends. Also, you should have a Circle Pad Pro or a *new* 3DS, since that camera control helps considerably in game and avoids hand cramps like the PSP earlier releases in the series. I'm on the original 3DS and the framerate and game texture isn't enough for me to want a *new* 3DS unit as it plays fine.

Love this game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I play this almost every night. Of course I never touched a monster hunter game before, so learning how to play was a little tough. I love that they let you change weapons instead of forcing you to commit to one. Also love that you can make your armor, a lot of them look super cool!
