Amicalola Falls State Park, Georgia: Picturesque Cascades near Historical Towns

About 70 miles north of Atlanta, Amicalola Falls State Park boasts cascades that are viewable from several vantage points for hikers. There are a number of trails in the park—the gently sloping 0.3-mile West Ridge Falls Access Trail boasts waterfall views for those avoiding a strenuous hike. For those who prefer to climb, a massive staircase leads trekkers up the mountainside adjacent to the waterfall, eventually arriving at the apex of the cliff. Serious hikers can make the 8.5-mile journey on the new Appalachian Approach Trail, which meanders past the falls to Springer Mountain. Once there, guests can hike a portion of the 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail, which winds its way north to Maine.

Housed within the historical Lumpkin County Courthouse, the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site recounts the town’s 1829 gold rush. The mining boom was brief but prosperous—a US branch mint opened and coined more than $6 million in gold before closing its doors in 1861. The museum also exhibits a set of gold coins, a hydraulic cannon once used for mining, and a gold nugget that weighs more than 5 ounces.

10/22/23 i observed an attentive staff that went above and beyond to provide best vacation experience for all visitors. Despite widespread shortages in lettuce in N. Ga,, restaurant manager, Mike Johnson, drove 15-20 miles to Ellijay an guarantee a quality dinner service. Our young waiter, Colin, was very attentive to us, even though we were having the dinner buffet, complimentary with every stay.

Another wonderful stay at Amicalola Falls Lodge This was our third time staying at Amicalola Falls Lodge, and it was wonderful as always. The staff including Sheila at the front desk, the restaurant waitstaff Christian & Tessa, and the maintenance man who changed out a lightbulb for us in our room were all exceptionally kind and attentive. The lodge ambience is relaxing and laid-back, like a lodge should be, and our room was clean & comfortable. The food we ate each night we dined in the on-site restaurant, from the Grilled Ribeye to the Trout to the Fried Chicken Dinner and Hand Apple Pie for dessert - was all fantastic. Looking forward to our next visit!

Wonderful Christmas Brunch We had the pleasure of enjoying Christmas Brunch at the lodge. We made a reservation more than a month in advance. When we arrived, there was a very long line full of people with reservations. Many people were complaining but, we had no place to go so we took turns waiting in line and stepped outside to enjoy the incredible views! Once were were seated, we enjoyed a delicious buffet and tasty drinks. They were clearly short staffed but everyone working there was doing their very best. It was a wonderful brunch experience and we certainly would do it again.

Make a sandwich. SAVE YOUR $$$ Cascades Restaurant Way Overpriced. The food was scant, mediocre service, and food had no flavor. My granddaughters mashed potatoes were just potatoes in a bowl, no gravy, no butter. It's just a blob of potatoes in a bowl. My husband's grits were so flavorless. They were just mush in a bowl. Make a sandwich and save your money. It's not worth the price by any stretch of the imagination
