Fun, cool, some minor complaints.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1. The required bridge seems like overkill and the sooner they connect to Google and Amazon directly, the better 2. If you're using Echo or Google home you'll have redundant apps with differing and inconsistent functionality from the Hue app 3. You'll spend an hour or two upgrading the firmware on individual bulbs which is silly and annoying... 4. One of my bulbs gets out of sync with the others from time to time and will occasionally be the odd one out in a color scheme 5. Like some other "dimmable" led bulbs they might be incompatible with some older dimmer switches. That's the bad stuff but I got a reasonable discount and they really can change the appearance of a room as well as the benefits of voice activation and remote control. Here's a simple "warm" setting in the kitchen. The Hues are in the lightshades.

Very cool lights work well
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These lights are so nice. So many colors for mood or decor. WiFi works well. Can use Siri to talk and change lighting. If you want to control them when a way you must be logged in on line. Would give 5 stars if wasn’t for price.

Great Starter and Easy Automation Lighting Kit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before purchasing this item, I had bought the google home and thought I would like to home automate other parts of my home. The guys were great with showing me several products and I had finally chose the Phillips Hue "starter" kit. It came with a hub and 4 smart lights. The setup was easy and integrated with the google home within minutes ( I do not know about Alexa or Apple integration). The instructions for setup were a little lackluster but did not impair the setup to prevent it from being effective and quick. It was as simple as downloading the Hue app, removing the old light bulbs, putting the Hue bulbs in and clicking on the hub. Having it connect through google home appeared seamless and easy. The longest part for me was deciding what to name each light. The one challenge I did have was creating “voice shortcuts” in google home to work with the Hue system but that is not Phillip’s Hue fault. I would have like to see a little more instruction/detail of what types of color names that the hue system bulbs could be set at so I would not have to research all the varieties of color. However, that was not enough to change my rating from an excellent product and I would buy it again.

Great "Netflix and Chill" vibes ;)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this product. It's a bit pricey but worth it. This is a great way to add a nice feel to the living room space. Perfect for "Netflix and Chill".

Very fun and easy.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fun and convenient with easy set up. Hue bridge requires a wires connection, which isn't a big deal but I didn't know that going in. Works well with Google Home and the IfTTT app for easy voice control. Enable location and lights will turn on/off automatically when you come home or leave. The sunrise feature is a nice way to wake up. Having a strong network is highly recommended.

Awesome , makes my living room feel like a Theatre
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I highly recommend these lights for anybody who wants to set up a mood to their room, meaning if you're watching a movie you might want to do the dark red color , or if you're just hanging out talking to your spouse or whatever you might want to just put like a light blue. I really love these lights. I'm glad I made the purchase.

Great addition to our theater room
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s pretty rad to walk into your theater room and say “Hey Siri, turn the Animus on” and then let there be light! Animus is the name I gave my theater room so the voice commands are pretty neat and the name of your lights are customizable. I was concerned that if I wasn’t home someone may have trouble figuring out the lights. That concern was put to rest when I flipped the light switch off and back on the lights default to a really nice white. This is a really fun toy to have I throughly enjoy it. I’m a big gamer and movie watcher so I can theme the color of my entire room to match my entertainment. Pictures absolutely cannot do this justice. Just FYI in the pic the TV lights are hue but aren’t in this kit but to save time if your tv is 75 inches like mine this took one hue strip and 3 extensions to get the complete wrap around. Love Hue and am very happy with all of my hue purchases.

WOW! Pricey but so cool
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been wanting these lights since I saw them several years ago and they have not disappointed. I was able to connect to these lights with Siri, through automation apps like IFTTT and a ton of available third-party apps that let you sync lights to music, weather, location, the possibilities are endless! I’m now looking into more hue lights and other smart home devices to integrate with them.

Q: QuestionDo I need to use all 4 bulbs or can I use just one? My daughter's room only has 1 socket but she really wants this item. Thanks
Asked by ynoT513.
- A:Answer yes you can . If you want a bulb only then you can buy a separate and you must need a hue bridge to use that bulb. Starter kit is the best package to get 4 bulb with hue bridge at cheaper price .

Q: QuestionCan I still use a light switch to turn these lights on/off or do I have to use the voice control or app to turn them on/off?
Asked by calman848.
- A:Answer Technically yes, however very time you use the switch to turn them off they lose connection to the bridge and reset. Think of it like an alarm clock, you can turn off the alarm with the designated button or by unplugging the whole clock - you would never unplug the whole clock though because then you would have to reset the time each time.

Q: QuestionAre these bulbs safe to use as lightbulbs that are currently on a dimmer switch? As in, my living room lights are dimmable can I use these bulbs?
Asked by Starlight.
- A:Answer Hi Starlight. Per the manual, it's not suggested to use the dimmer switch with these bulbs. We have ours on a dimmer switch, but we keep the dimmer on high. The woman once lowered the brightness with the switch and lights began to flicker.

Q: QuestionShould multiple bridges be used since each 4-pack comes with one, or are you better to use just 1 bridge, even if you are connecting multiple rooms and for arguments sake, hooking up 20+ bulbs in the house?
Asked by Livie.
- A:Answer you just need one hue bridge per house since you connect it to your router. I bought two kits since it was cheaper and gave one bridge and bulb as a gift and kept the rest.

Q: QuestionI got the Echo Plus because it has a Hue-compatible hub built-in. Amaz. said it works ALL Philips Hue bulbs. However the colored bulbs in this kit with hub WON'T work with JUST the Echo Plus. Why?! I don't want to use the bridge nor should have to. :(
Asked by ItsJustMe.
- A:Answer You might try installing with the hue bridge, let the bulbs download the lastest software/firmware updates, then try installing with the built-in Echo plus bridge.

Q: QuestionDo these A19 lights look okay in a recessed BR30 fixture? Or is it better to get the BR30 flood lights instead?
Asked by Tundra.
- A:Answer A BR30 is much more efficient than an A19 lamp in a recessed fixture. An A19 lamp will fit and make light, but not efficiently. Between 4/5ths and 9/10ths of the light from an A19 lamp doesn’t shine toward the fixture’s open aperture ring and flow out of the fixture. A BR30 lamp emits all of its light in a narrow-ish cone away from its base. An A19 lamp emits light in a uniform sphere except for a narrow-ish dark cone toward its base. An A19 lamp is also an inch shorter than a BR30 lamp so the increased distance allows a narrower cone of light. An A19 is 2 inches shorter than a BR40 and correspondingly less effective. Using something like a 2 prong receptacle adapter can move the lamp toward the aperture, but if its moved out far enough to emit even 1/3 of the light from the lamp it will be a wide cone of light that gets into peoples eyes as glare, like a bare light bulb hanging down. The recessed fixtures made before reflector lamps became available had a metal reflector and a concentric ring anti-glare baffle. The baffle has to be removed to change the lamp and the reflector always needs to be cleaned. On a high ceiling it requires a ladder and 5 or 10 minutes each. Without the glare baffle the reflector lamps could be changed with a suction cup on a pole in a minute or so each. I don’t think the LED’s longevity changes the economics of lamp changing, LEDs last indefinitely, but the phosphors still wear out and they reach 1/2 brightness at 12,000 hours like the long-life fluorescent lamps made for use where they’re expensive to change. [The LED panel and trim ring conversion is both the most expensive to buy and the most labor intensive to change, so it’s never the economical choice.] The LEDs useful lifespan is less than 6x the life of the 2,000 hour long-life incandescant lamp, and the BR30 LED lamps are priced at a premium relative to the A19 lamps in the same ratio as the incandescant lamps were. Given either the huge increase in the relative cost of using a ladder in a commercial setting, or the huge increase in the value of consumer convenience now vs 1970 when the R lamps overtook reflector fixtures, the reduced maintenance cost justifies the higher price of the BR30 LED reflector lamp even more than it did 50 years ago for the incandescant R30 lamp, It does puzzle me that the BR30 is priced higher than the A19 because an LED emits light in a cone so the BR30 a simpler design with fewer parts and less assembly labor, just one flat disc of LEDs instead of at least 6 small paddles each facing a different direction. The pricing is still taking advantage of the expectation established by the more difficult to make glass envelope used by the older technology - which means even 10 years into the LED lamp era subsidies and changing mandates are still delaying a transition to competitive commodity pricing,
