This costume is SUPER cute! My 9-month-old son is 31 inches tall and 21lbs. He's a pretty skinny kid, but wearing all 12mo size Carters. Based on reviews I expected he'd fit the Small (6-12mo), but I ordered Medium (12-18mo) because at the time it was $8, while the Small was $26 (sheesh!). I knew it would be big, but with the cuffs rolled up and a pin to keep the hood from falling into his eyes, it worked just fine for us.
And for $8, this costume was a fantastic buy. Very good quality, sturdy fabrics, good stitching. It's lined on the inside and has snaps on the back, and down the legs for diaper changes. The only irregularity I noticed was the flame tongue was attached a little crookedly, but NBD. The feet go on like booties, and they're roomy enough to put on over shoes (though we didn't). The snout & nostrils of the headpiece don't stick out very far, so my kiddo was eventually able to ignore it. And while the tail swung around as he moved, it's short enough that it didn't grab his attention or bother him.
I would think the tail would prevent you from being able to fasten your kiddo into a carseat in it, but since it was already big, we didn't try that either.
Dress mom as a princess and dad as a knight, and you've got yourself a family theme. :)

This costume is adorable. Absolutely adorable. The fit is true to the sizing, and the face tends to stay in place on my kid. I'm actually surprised to see so many other reviews noting size issues. We ordered 12-18 months for my son (who is 15 months old, and wears 12-18 months in most other brands; Carters, Old Navy, Gap, Oshkosh, etc.) and it fit without any issues. I think the most important piece in the size chart is height, but YMMV. The wings snap on and off for easy storage but are rigid enough to look right but soft enough to avoid injury.
The size chart, noted in another review:
Small (6-12mo) Height 29 - 30.5 inches Waist 19 - 19.5 inches Weight 23 -25 pounds
Medium (12-18mo) Height 30.5 - 33 inches Waist 19.5 - 20.25 inches Weight 25 - 27 pounds
Large ( 18mo-2T) Height 33 - 35 inches Waist 20.25 - 21 inches Weight 28-30 pounds
Based on this chart, my son is in the right height range but below the weight for the size we got. It fits fine; but height tends to be his limiting factor (tall for his age, but avg weight).

I ordered the Large 18m-2T size for my 18 month old (he’s 26 pounds, 33 inches tall) and it fit him mostly as expected. He has long legs and I’ve always had to buy a size up to get pants that are long enough; so I wasn’t surprised that this didn’t fit him perfectly.
The arms on the costume were a little too long and the legs were a little too short for my sons body.
It looked super cute when he was standing and walking, but every time we picked him up the legs would immediately hike up to his kneecaps, so I just had to make sure he was wearing long pants underneath with elastic cuffs on the ankles since we were outside in somewhat chilly (Canadian) weather. We were able to easily fit a heavier outfit underneath the costume. The costume is well-made, the material feels sturdy - not cheap, there are no loose stitches, and it has a decently thick lining that I was quite thankful for. The booties for this costume are great and we were able to fit them over top of his size 7 shoes. The hood was slightly mis-shapen only in that the teeth were a little wonky and the eyes were a little droopy, but it was still very adorable nonetheless and once my son was wearing it I didn’t even notice. I do wish it had come with some mittens, but that’s not a deal-breaker.
Our son got so many compliments from both adults and other kids and he loved running around as a dragon.. I really recommend this costume!
