Best smartphone I've had, Moto or other

Purchased at Best Buy Oct 2017, so have now used it daily for over three months. This is my third Motorola and Android smartphone (2015 Droid Turbo 2 and 2013 Droid Maxx, prior).
I can't say enough positive things about this phone: Super snappy (iPhone X fast, perhaps?), excellent battery life, very fast Turbo charging, great Motorola camera app (much improved from earlier versions), very useful fingerprint sensor, usable voice recognition (both Google Assistant and Moto Voice), and more.
Many misinformed web reviews almost steered me away from the Z2 Force, but I'm glad ignored them. Criticism of the Z2's smaller physical battery size vs. original Z is off base, battery life is actually higher due to Z2's much more efficient Snapdragon 835 processor, and other components. Also, most reviews over focus on Moto Mods, which I consider fairly useless (I own none), but the Z2 is a great flagship phone without them.
The Z2's front fingerprint sensor is brilliant with Moto "One Button Nav" enabled to use finger swipes that are much faster than the standard Android home, app, and back buttons, plus it increases screen real estate for apps. It's also very fast for locking and unlocking with a quick touch -- I truly don't see how iPhone X FaceID can be faster or easier than this.
Physical size and weight of this phone is ideal if you use a protector case. Without one, it's too thin to grip, but that's the point of its design. IMO, most other smartphones become *too* thick with protective cases.
Verizon's flexible glass screen protector is inexpensive and makes the Z2's plastic shatterproof screen look and feel as nice as any glass phone screen. I love that this Z2 (and my prior DT2) is shatterproof, it's already survived several hard drops with zero damage.
The new Moto camera app is a great improvement, very easy to use and some great features, and I now prefer it to iPhone and Google Camera apps. I especially love the Moto Action "quick capture" twist hand gesture to open the camera app (had this on DT2, as well), by far the fastest method I've ever used. I can twist the phone while coming out of my pocket, and the camera app will be open and ready to take a picture by the time I have it aimed at the subject (and while everyone else is still fumbling with their iPhones). I've snapped many great "fleeting moment" vacation shots thanks to this capability.
The Z2's dual camera lens Depth Mode effects are also fun. I've generated some very artistic blurred and black and white background style shots. Action mode multiple exposure works great too, very fast and easy to review and discard unwanted shots.
The Z2 Force camera is still deficient vs other flagship phones in low light, esp. with its lack of optical image stabilization (OIS). But outdoor daylight shots are great. And FWIW, there are also some pretty positive reviews of the Z2 camera app's Professional mode by advanced photographers, too.
The "chop-chop" Moto Action hand gesture for flashlight on/off is brilliant, something I use multiple times every day on nighttime dog walks, in dimly lit rooms, in dark cabinets, etc. Seriously, it makes for the best flashlight I've ever owned, since it's instantaneous to turn on, very bright, and always in my pocket!
Motorola also improved voice recognition by enabling both Google Assistant ("OK Google") and Moto Voice ("Show Me") to wake and unlock the phone hands free, something very few other brand smartphones can do. Moto Voice "Show Me" is a handy complement to "OK Google", I do use it regularly to open apps with my voice, near instantaneously, esp. when the phone is locked. "OK Google" on this Z2 works virtually the same as on my Google Home (in fact, both respond together when I'm home, which works fine).
Other than low light camera improvements, the only other missing feature I anxiously await on my next Moto flagship phone (Z3 Force?) is IP68 waterproofing, which will be a de facto flagship trait in 2018 and beyond.

This is a great phone. It is very thin. I suggest you still get a screen protector because it will still scratch even though it is shatter proof. The speaker is built into the top front which I like but if you set alarms make sure you don't face it down. Haven't found any problems with camera yet. Processor is fantastic. I play games and noticed improvement in them compared to my other phones. I got the free projector mod. It's cool but it's not bright enough to enjoy unless you are in a completely dark room with a screen or a white wall. If you are trying to show something to your friends, the lack of having a bare white wall to show it on makes it useless. The only complaint I have for the phone is there is no screen mirroring, dlna or video out(display port) built into the phone. Hopefully they will come out with a mod for that. I also found case options limited for this phone.

My sister bought one of the older models. So I decided to go for the newest one. This is a great phone. The price is a little high for what the phone can do. After I bought it I realized it doesn't have a jack for earphones which I wish I would have realized before I bought it. But that would be my only complaint so far. It has a really good camera from what I understand but I haven't really messed with it yet I've only had the phone for about 4 months.

Let's face it, the moto mods are a bit gimmicky. The projector is fun (and great if you get it for free with the sale) but fairly low-def. The speakers are decent but weak on bass and can't connect via bluetooth. The camera has a great zoom with good image stabilization but really needs a bigger sensor to make it stand out compared to other smartphone cameras. All that said, the phone itself is a great performer. Call quality, if anyone cares anymore, is great. Performance is snappy in apps and games, and the screen looks great. The screen doesn't go edge to edge, but is very tough and responsive. I have to say, the camera should have been two different focal lengths instead of color and black and white. Black and white just isn't useful when you can desaturate any color picture very easily. That said, the flash works well, and the manual controls function nicely. I really think they missed the boat on the camera mod by not having a bigger sensor, but the zoom and stabilization on the mod are very good. All in all, it's a top end phone that you can get at a great price at BB (mine was $300 off and a free projector).

I am impressed with the Moto Z2 so far. The battery life has been great and absolutely love how fast it charges from 15% to full charge in about an hour. Love the screen size and the processing speeds. I have been a loyal Motorola Droid customer for some time. Have had the Droid X, Droid Rzr, Droid Maxx, Droid Turbo, I may have missed one or two, and now the Moto Z2 Force. So far I'm very pleased with it's performance and features. I will have to say the only draw backs I have seen so far are how things the phone is and from what I have read in other reviews of how easy the screen is to be scratched. I think that Motorola should have stepped up and larger capacity battery with this device and that would have made it a little thicker. But saying that, the battery life has not been an issue so far as it does last me all day with no issues with have to carry a charger around with me. As far as the thickness goes, I do as I have done with all is predecessors in the past and put an Otter Box Defender case on it day one. I also put a self healing screen protector on it and removed the the one that comes with the Otter Box as it tends to get dust and dirt between it and the screen which would allow this screen to get scratched. So to conclude my review of the Moto Z2 Force I am very pleased with it so far and looking forward to see how well it follows the previous Droids that I've had.

This phone is a breath of fresh air compared to what is out in the market today. I've been a Samsung Galaxy fan for years, but I found their last line of products lacking in anything new. The moto mods make this phone unique, but that is the primary reason I purchased this phone. The screen is good size (I prefer larger screens), and pixels provide vibrant images. Some have commented about the camera on the back of the phone being too large and looking like a robot, but it doesn't really bother me. Moto mods offer some cool alternatives to the everyday stuff, like a speaker mod, projector mod, wireless charging mod, camera mod, and an upcoming gaming mod (turns your phone into a controller, looking forward to this one). This let's you take your phone to the next level. I own all the mods except the camera and forthcoming gaming mod. I tested the camera in store, but the mod didn't offer me much for what I wanted the phone for (I don't take a lot of pictures). Would recommend if you want something different. On a side note, I did have to reach out to Motorola support, very helpful!
