A review for those of us that are young at heart.
5 out of 5 stars
A review for those of us that are young at heart.
Before I start the actual review I would just like to clarify something. My Xbox One s was not purchased from Amazon or the market place and the bundle that I have is not currently for sale on here. I got mine from a well known High Street and online Game retailer and the bundle contained a dark blue 500GB machine, one colour matched controller, Battlefield 1 as a download only, COD Infinite Warfare on disc and a 14 day Gold pass.As a gamer in advancing years, 60 next year, this is my first Xbox of any description and I would like to give other young at heart gamer's a more balanced perspective and help them overcome any techno fears that they may have. My previous experience of modern games machines has been limited to the Wii which I enjoyed very much but did have its limitations.PROS- Plug and play. Ensure that your WiFi is on, connect the Xbox to the tv using an HDMI lead, connect the power lead and put 2 x AA batteries into the controller (I can recommend the Venom rechargeable power packs available from Amazon, see my review for this item and its use). Turn on the Xbox and it will guide you through the set up process. You will need to set up a Microsoft account if you don't already have one.- No need for a separate Blu-Ray/DVD player- Access to Amazon, Netflix etc- Supports 4K Blu-Ray/DVD- Quite compact and no external PSU (see photos)- WiFi controller- Easy to navigate menus with plenty of content- Very little or no noise- Ability to connect an external hard drive. Currently a cheaper option than buying the 1TB or 2TB Xboxes.- The wife is very happy with the lack of clutter behind the tv now that the DVD, Blu_ray player, Fire stick, Wii and all the PSU's and leads have virtually gone.- Stands upright for space saving (with appropriate stand, available at a very reasonable price from Amazon)CONS- Games on disc need to be downloaded onto the hard drive (20-30 minutes, depending on connection speed as the game invariably needs an update)- Some bundled games, in my case Battlefield 1, have to be downloaded online as there is no disc just a code. In my case this took nearly eight hours to fully load at an average speed of 22 MB/S (BT Infinity)- 500GB storage. 5-6 games and this is virtually full. (See PROS above re external drive)- Controller buttons hard to see in low light (Being picky here and I dare say that once you memorise which button is where it won't be a problem but back lighting would be good for us not so young uns as my memory is about as good as my eyesight!)Overall very pleased with this purchase, not just the gaming but the whole entertainment package that it offers, obviously some of these need to be paid for separately such as Amazon Prime etc.I am more that welcome to answer any questions that you may have with regards to the Xbox One s.
Thank you for your feedback

    + Not noisy.
    + Good for 4K (HDR) Blu-Ray watching.
+ Excellent for Xbox 360 games compatability. It'll play basically all of them as good, if not better. It's a genuinely good replacement for a 360 if you can't afford or get the Series S/X.
    - Not good for anything more than 1080p gaming - and even then lets be honest it struggles, often having to sacrifice 60FPS and/or true 1080p just to run 'okay'.
    - Doesn't have a verticle stand included - must be purchased separately.

If you don't have a backlog of 360 Discs and aren't planning on buying any Xbox 360/One/Series Discs then I would recommend the Series S instead - provided you can actually find one to buy at a normal price.

Xbox one has to be the worst console ever made, I'm so glad that I chose ps4 when these consoles were released. The only reason I bought one in the end was so I could play gears of war and halo. If you've internet connection or broadband isn't very good, then I strongly recommend you don't buy this console. I have only five games installed on this Xbox one and it already used 80% of the storage, including the large gig updates for those games. It can't multitask like starting up a game and do updates at the same time (not even one) and takes too long to even start a game. You need to fully install your game as well as do the update but it takes way too long. You can't earn achievements offline. When your having problems with your internet connection, Nothing will work at all. It's frustrating to keep on using battery's for your controller all the time. Most of the system is primarily used for entertainment such as TV and movies, I mean what is this, a games console or a sky box. I could go on, my point is that this console is complete garbage. How on earth did Microsoft think that this would be acceptable for gamers?

OK product but after few weeks of (moderate) use the disc drive did not work anymore. I am not putting one star simply because Amazon allowed me to send back the item and get a refund on my credit card.

I am a bit disappointed with this console , I loved my 360 ,I had 2 and loads of games .Then jumped ship to P.S.4
I must say have enjoyed that console as well but missed gears of war and halo .So decided to buy a Xbox one S and halo 5 and Gears of War 4.
What a mistake .I have had it up and running for 10 hours and haven't even played a game yet
Step one install up date to system over a hour and 12% of your memory,
Then install the game to hard drive ,halo 5 all of it no playing while loading just shy of 50 GB,blimey a good hour at my internet speed , then get ready for a update bigger than the game ,
Gears of War 4 is even worse game just under 50 GB update 80 plus GB .
Sorry this is a choke I will be lucky to have it I stalled by the weekend it is Tuesday now .
Not impressed I will by next to nothing on this console unless its a exclusive ,apart from a hard drive ,as 500gb 2 games system update and nearly full sorry crap,I have had my PS4 4 3 years and no issues like this and the games are as big and look as good and take up less memory .I will be sticking with that mostly
I am starting to think what a waste of money and time .when the console you already own is better in every way .

Buying the console only deal seemed the best option for me as the bundle offers had games of no interest. Set up was easy and simple and 1 month free gold subscription gave me a couple of games that was actually good. 500 gb memory is ample as I can always add an external drive if I ever needed to.
Anyway seems yo be running fjne and pleased.
