This is a really unique and cool cookie book. I own quite a few books, new and old, and have never seen or even heard of some of the recipes I've seen in here.
For example: Sour cream cookies, cream cheese cookies, and my personal favorite neapolitan cookies. A lot of the recipes in here tend to be old timey. Simple, easy, and no fuss.
The directions are pretty simple, and well explained. They even explain some common problems with cookies not turning out right.
Different types of flours are explained, and why they are used in certain types of recipes. Also different types of leavening agents are explained, what they do, why they are/are not used in certain recipes, and how to determine yourself if you should use it in your own recipe.
They tell you how to make royal icing and tips for decorating. There are some pictures, however they don't look like they were taken by a pro (not a complaint), which is nice because it really looks homemade, and shows me what they'll look like if I make them myself.
Overall, really unique recipe (along with tried and trusted recipes like sugar cookies), informative, and directions are simple. I highly recommend this to beginner bakers and even experienced bakers will find this book useful.

Though I agree with some of the reviewers, that the author is pushing his kitchen products (with hot links to The Prepared Pantry), I was impressed with the structure and layout of the cookbook—especially the treatise on the science of cooking.

Cookie families are arranged together by type: drop, hand-formed, refrigerator, rolled/cutout, bar cookies, and other types of cookies (cookie guns). The author takes the time to explain the science behind making cookies. Cookies require three specific things: sugar, fat and flour. Change the ingredient, mixing method, or ratio, change the cookie. Photographs help the reader to gauge the expected outcome of the cookies.

The index does not have hot links so it's a bit misleading to have the index in blue type. You still have to scrub through the book linearly. My only other real complaint about the otherwise clear layout of the recipes is that there are specific fonts for making fractions: 1 1/2 is not clear; 1-1/2 is visually cluttered; but 1 ½ is the correct use of fractional typography; 400°F is traditionally how oven temperatures are written. Not 400 degrees. But these are small quibbles. Cookie monster want more cookie!

Perfect Book! With Christmas arriving and I am going to be making dinner and desserts. I wanted a book that I could go to when I was baking and learning to make the best tasty cookies. I think that I have decided to bake gingerbread cookies and sandwhich cookies. I do not have to make a lot so I can play around with different cookie kinds. I am celebrating a christmas with the two of us and I want to make it romantic. Very simple too so we are not cooking all day and can spend the time together instead of cooking but I think the cookies are a great bonding for us. Also my bf loves gingerbread. So he will love decorating them!

I am happy that this book goes into if the cookies come out to hard or too tough. Or too brown, or crumbly. Then it gives the reasons to why they are like that. That is so helpful for someone who likes to bake but not very familiar with the how. So great e-book, definitely would recommend it.

I have to say baking cookies is something I usually only do once a year. Most cookies thru the year are store bought cut bake and serve. After I downloaded the book I began to read and wow!
I am a novice who learned a ton from this book. The author explains ingredients, how they work in a recipe and even explains what blade to use on my mixer and why. Butter vs margarine, flour and sugar measuring, Internet places to visit for more recipes and ideas!
Everything is written at an easy level to understand and the recipes provided have ingredients all can afford and find in a store. I started baking cookies right away!
This is a book I will not only use at Christmas but as a reference year round. Thanks to the author for changing my way of making cookies.

If you are looking for cookie inspiration this is the book for you.

I enjoyed this cookbook. It has a tappable table of contents so you can easily find what you are looking for. There is good information in the beginning explaining what ingredients you use and why. I think people become better bakers when they know why you use a product and how to properly use it. I didn't give this 5 stars because I didn't care for the links to outside sources that were embedded throughout the book. I will keep this book handy even though it is better built for a beginner than someone with years of experience, It has some nice recipes that I will bake around the holidays.
