When I saw this TV's sale price, I read up as much I could about it and asked I.T. friends about. All signs pointed to the belief that it was an excellent TV on a budget. The main criticism in its early years on shelves was the picture color and quality. I've christened it today with a Phish concert in Rivera Maya, an exquisite color scheme to test this TV's vibrancy. It was gorgeous. Hands down. Nothing looked bland and the picture was clean. I opted to get the 5-year Geek Squad protection plan because any negative reviews said that common breakdowns occurred within the first year, and with a TV this big, any out-of-pocket expenses would be gross. I've had it less than a day, but I love it already!

I had to replace my wall mounted 10 y/o 42" 1080 LCD set (visible screen burn/dead pixel pattern). I settled for this insignia, as I was limited to VESA 200x200 wall mountable sets. This was one of the few 55" that used VESA 200.
This is my 2nd Insignia LED TV, so long term quality is not a concern (using certain credit card with free extended warranty was a plus!). "out of box" preset picture modes are NOT the best, but after a quick custom calibration best picture quality achieved. I say quick because at this price point not many expert settings available in submenu. the picture quality is decent, just don't expect a great picture like in 4K sets (I also have a "Sa*Sun*" 6 series 4K screen which blows this 1080s quality). But for less than half the price of my other LED, this insignia beats it for value. My image is based on OTA HD antenna receiving 1080i, 720p, and 480p signals. I also have a standard Blu Ray player (HDMI) and a Roku 2 (HDMI), so my picture quality assessment is based on these 3 picture sources. Screen glare is average, not very glossy to produce distractions. "Off angle" viewing does not produce sharp cutoff in picture quality as compared to other name brand sets.
The "Dolby DTS" sound is actually better than expected, the decent sized rear speaker placement also improves sound. when playing a Blu ray with master Dolby DTS audio VS 5.1 track, difference is noticeably better. The basic stubby remote control does not light up, but a few buttons are glow in dark.
This Insignia 55" has a rather high energy rating of $28/year (name brands of this size are more efficient). according to the online specs in manual, this has a power consumption of 144W.
Conclusion: VALUE!, for the price nothing beats this 55" Insignia set as 1080 55" sets are becoming rare: 4K sets are becoming the norm. get them while you can.

I bought the same model about a year ago, of course I bought the 5-year Geek Squad protection plan mainly because I was new to insignia and I did not know what to expect, well I'm happy to report that I'm So Satisfied with its overall performance that I bought a second one, same size, 55 inch, to run as an extended monitor right next to it. Now I can watch TV on one and surf the Internet on the other plus so much more. They may not have a lot of bells and whistles but that's not what I needed and some people complain about the sound but I think the sound is adequate for my needs, I like the theater sound setting the best, and while my eyesight may not be the greatest at 50 years old, (no I do Not wear glasses), I think they have excellent picture quality and I like the movie picture mode the best.
So if you want a big screen TV/Monitor for an unbelievable price this is the one I would recommend.

I picked out a 48 inch on line seamed like a good one. When I went to The store I walked past a 55 inch TV for only $329. Real good picture !
can't go wrong at this price

A decent basic TV. Lasted about 2 1/2 years with heavy use before parts of the screen started turning blue. Of course this was a few months after my two-year warranty expired. I paid about $430 for it in 2017, now it’s about $330 I think. For that price you could get something that will (hopefully) last longer and has more features. I’d skip this one.

Went back and fourth on what brand of big flat screen to buy. Ready SO many reviews and looking for the best deal. Tried buying a 50" at Best Buy and having it shipped. That one arrived severely damaged. Had to take that back. That was a blessing in disguise. Used the same money and got this 55", and LOVE IT!!!
Great price, great SIZE and AMAZING PICTURE!!! Would definitely recommend to buy again :)

For the price you get a great basic TV. The sound is low, the pic is decent. We use it in the living room and have been satisfied. We use netflix and sling TV via firestick so I don't know how it'll look with actual cable, no different I'd assume.
A:This is a loaded question. It depends on what you are watching, your cinema configuration and equipment. You could buy a $3000 led 4K television with the latest and greatest but if you don't have a set of high end German engineered Klipsch speakers to compliment the television your wasting your money. In addition you will only experience the greatest cinema experience while watching blue ray movies. Any other time you you will be wasting the extra features. You don't buy a corvette to go grocery shopping. In reference to your question, for the average consumer this television would rank an 8 or 9. Its a great value, excellent picture, and the right price.
A:Yes, it's a good tv. But it's not the best tv. You will have a little less than best sound, picture, and build quality than say a Samsung or LG. But you get what you pay for if your wanting something for you living room that you watch everyday then spend the extra 200 get a nicer one with better sound faster refresh rate and one that is more apelling to the eye.
A:Hi, this television can definitely be used with a mounting bracket. Any wall mount which is compatible with a VESA measurement of 200 x 200 an be used with this TV set. Ensure that the wall mount you purchase, can handle the TV's weight of 36.4 lbs. Daniel T. - Insignia Support
A:Make sure that whatever you are outputting into the tv either supports 1080p or has been switch to send out a 1080 signal. More often than not, that's what the issue is.
