This is the 3rd HD Homerun unit that I purchased from Silicondust. Each time they get better and better. This time I want to add more tuners to my existing network. With adding this for tuner unit I now have access to 6 tuners at any given time. It works seamlessly with my Sony PS3, my Amazon Fire TV my Samsung View tablet, my smartphone, my PC and even my LG smart TV. When I upgraded I also purchased the DVR subscription. I love it. I love the way it gives you options and offers wide range of compatible devices. The initial set up was easy and quick, however it has dropped off the network once since I installed it 30 days ago.

I can't believe I waited so long to buy one of these. I've been thinking about getting one for some but was not sure how it would actually work until I tried it thanks to being fed up with Comcast. Set up is really easy. One coax connector, one power connector, and one network connector. With a $10 digital antenna connected via coax and plugging the unit into my home network using Ethernet, I can immediately get around 50 free, OTA (over the air) channels and watch them on any device including my TVs. I use my SiliconDust HDHomeRun Cuatro network TV tuner with Plex server software and was very pleased to be able to watch local channels, sports, and other OTA content plus everything in my own media library anywhere on any mobile device including while traveling, even overseas. None of the blackouts I frequently experienced trying to stream my Xfinity channels using their app. I am glad I bought the Quatro (4 tuner) version so I can watch and/or record multiple programs simultaneously. The price difference was very modest over the 2 tuner version. Unfortunately, I am not completely ready to "cut the cord" because my wife and daughter are hooked on a traditional TV remote control at each TV vs. having to run or switch to a streaming app in order to watch live content. But we are getting close which in the first month alone would save me more than the cost of the HDHomeRun Quattro. To fully cut the cord in my home, I would also need a subscription to a premium streaming service like Hulu, Sling, Youtube TV, etc. but that would still be much cheaper than my cable subscription. The problem then is still having multiple streaming services to switch between to get everything they want to easily watch. We are getting there.... The HDHomeRun set up is trivially easy. For streaming out of your home over the Internet, it helps to have a good, high speed connection, obviously. I am pleased that the tuner does not put too much traffic on my home network at all and I can still stream other content while watching live OTA programs. As hinted above, Plex really makes the unit come alive for me. For $5 / month (or less if you buy a longer term) running on some device that's always on (I use a Mac mini), you have a comprehensive local program guide, very good DVR capabilities, all in addition to live TV from OTA channels your antenna receives. You can watch this on any device (Smartphones, iPads, Laptops, game consoles, AppleTVs, FireTVs, Rokus, smart TVs, and more.) And, the video quality at 1080p for most OTA channels received is HIGHER than local channels on Xfinity or U-Verse. You will immediately see the difference. I tried the HD HomeRun software, Channels app on IOS, and a few others and for my use, they were not as comprehensive, powerful, or easy to use as Plex. However, those are good options as well based on the reviews I found. I recommend giving the HDHomeRun digital TV tuner a try to really understand what it can do. It's not for someone completely non-tech, but it also does not require a PhD in home tech to wonder why you did not try it sooner (even if like me you still pay for cable).

First you need to keep in mind, it only works as well as YOUR antenna allows it. Ibput one of those big arrorlw looking antenna in my attic, also from bestbuy, and worked well enough, just not super clear downstairs. I also missed a guide of sorts, at least coming up next. I hate cable prices, but dont mind the 30-40 I pay between Netflix, hulu, funimation and Amazon each month. Then the makers of hdhomerun put out a roku channel. Let me tell you, it was very easy to set up. I unplugged the cable for TV in my upstairs office and hooked it up to hdhomerun. Plugged the cat6 cable in directly to my switch and then the power. Head over to my.hdhomerun.com on a device on the same network and its already ready to go! So after installing the hdhomerun channel, I go to my roku, and it shows all 46 channel I get in my area, and all are clear, same quality on all 4 TVs. The channel guide isn't the best, it gets 4.5 out 5 stars, but that's on the roku app. It's easy to use, I just would prefer a vertical menu instead of horizontal. Best part is since I use roku only, I dont have to leave my roku device to get live TV. HD homerun will stream to mobile devices on your home network such as iPad or android phone. I tried on my note 8 and loads just as fast and its clear.

Just like with the old analog antennas you must position the antenna correctly for the best experience. I recommend either an outdoor anteanae or a powered indoor positioned in a window towards your prominent signals. The optional purchase of the DVR Service is great. Plex software also works great but isn’t as realiable with the recording yet. I use Plex to watch outside the home network and HDHomeRun software to watch inside. Would VPN from the outside of Oncould for a better experience. Great on fire stick, Xbox one, iOS, PlayStation 4, and Roku. TvOS support is wonky with 3rd party only app support. Hoping they will get the first party app up and working soon so the Apple TV will be all I need.

I have been using Silicondust products for the past 5 years. I own and older style Connect, 2 Extends and a Prime model which I no longer need since I cut out cable TV and now do just OTA. The QUATRO is their latest hardware update and it is fantastic! I bought one today, hooked it up and it works great! I also have their DVR service which is perfect alonside their hardware. Get one! (or 2)

First, let me say this device is AMAZING! Works great with my Nvidia Shield TV 2017. One major issue I had that almost caused me to return the HDHomeRun - Connect Quatro Tuner was after setting up I would receive an error message of "Unable to play channel" "No video data" even though the channels I was receiving this error for (CBS and NBC) I get great signal so I figured it wasnt a signal issue. After rebooting my network several times, moving splitters, bypassing splitters I jumped on google and saw others were having this same issue. Someone suggested downloading the latest BETA Firmware https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=20613&sid=d98c9b1e37090c82ff25c13f70db826b. ***Note- Just updating to the latest Firmware does not fix this issue. You need the BETA firmware. I had the latest firmware and was still experiencing these errors. After I did this, I rebooted everything including the HDHOMERUN, network switch, router and NVIDIA Shield TV. FINALLY! No more issues!!! I have been enjoying this setup for almost a week and not one "Unable to play channel" "No video data" issue. They really need to fix this as I am sure others have returned this device (just as I almost did). I gave this 4 stars only because of the frustrating setup and configuration hassle. Besides that...5 STARS!
