Lauren Conrad has long been one of my favorite celebrities ever since her Laguna Beach and The Hills days because of her fun personality and her chic style. I've read all of her L.A. Candy and Fame Game novels and loved them so I decided to order Celebrate even though I don't host many parties. I have three-year-old twins and will eventually be hosting many parties so I should probably gain some knowledge beforehand so I won't stress and freak out that much (even though I still will anyway)!
As soon as I received this book, I immediately started paging through it because I couldn't wait to see what this book is all about. I read through many of the sections of this book and skimmed the rest and discovered that there is quite a bit of information to party planning that I would never have even considered. Celebrate starts off with an introduction where Lauren talks about what made her originally interested in party planning and entertaining and I love that she includes this, as well as other anecdotes, throughout the book. It gives it more of a personal feel that makes it more enjoyable to read. The book is divided into two parts: Prep and Party. Prep covers party-planning information like invitations and menus that pertain to any number of events. Party is broken down into 12 chapters, each chapter covering a different type of party such as a birthday party, housewarming party, clambake, wedding, and holiday party. Then within each type of party, Lauren discusses how she plans for each type of party, the menu, bar, decor, and what kind of outfits to wear to these parties. Lauren herself has hosted all of the parties she discusses so she provides menus she used, as well as some pie and drink recipes.
Besides all of the beautiful pictures taken at all of these parties (there are lots for anyone who loves looking at pictures), I really like the way Lauren Conrad gives tips on how to throw great parties while saving money since everyone has a different budget. While some of the areas she discusses may not be possible or practical for everyone reading this book, I'm glad she talks about how she plans parties so we can pick and choose which details to focus on.
Celebrate is a great party-planning book to own and I'm glad I bought it! Even though I won't necessarily be planning all of the parties mentioned, it's nice to have as a reference. I wish this book had been around when I was planning my wedding because I found the wedding information to be helpful and for that reason, would recommend this to anyone planning a wedding because this book could then be used in the future for other parties (the wedding chapter is the longest in the book at just over 40 pages). I love the style this book is written in because it's not just matter-of -fact and full of details. Since Lauren Conrad is a big fan of throwing parties, her enthusiasm for entertaining is clearly noticeable in her writing. I purchased the hardcover edition and it has nice, thick pages and would make an excellent coffee table book as well. If you, or someone you know, is a fan of Lauren Conrad or is looking for a good, modern-day party-planning book, this is a great resource filled with tons of information and tips. I will definitely be using this in the future and highly recommend it!
