About

THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT IN CONCERT:

The String Cheese Incident may be America's quintessential jam band, effortlessly traversing genres and styles to create a truly sweeping live experience that incorporates elements of bluegrass, electronica, and psychedelia into their rock-based sound. Intuitively playing off each other, the band's talented roster of musicians improvise freely atop a full-throttle rhythm section that consistently brings fans to their feet for a dance in the aisles. With Song in My Head — their first studio album in nine years — due out in 2014, the band are sure to be sharper than ever on their tour dates in support of the release.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after a food fight that heavily featured cheese, the String Cheese Incident kicked off in Colorado in 1993, self-releasing their early bluegrass-influenced albums and building a regional following with their extended live shows. In 2001, the band debuted a more rock-oriented sound with third album Outside Inside, broadening their fanbase and touring extensively throughout the US. 2003's Untying the Not further expanded the band's repertoire of styles with its inclusion of electronic and trance elements, paving the way for the continued sonic development that has characterized their subsequent releases.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The Cheese flowed smoothly from tune to tune, jamming effortlessly. As the sun started to set they cranked up the energy and the place was rocking. Dancing in the aisles abounded."

"These guys are extraordinarily talented performers and musicians, and the audience was the most fun, tolerant, and colorful group of people I've ever seen at a concert."

"Amazing musician's putting out amazing energy! Great blend of blue-grass style tunes that would repeatedly crescendo into amazing high energy jam sessions."

Great music, great crowd, venue entry lacking

by Sky on 1/2/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

My only real complaint is that they scan tickets at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA before the security check. They should do security first so that if you have a non-permitted item (like our umbrella jellyfish), we can put it back in our car. Instead they confiscate the item and give you a claim tag that you hope you don't lose.

    SCI - Stubb's Austin, TX 11/2 -- 11/4

by Cheese Zits on 11/8/23Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater - Austin

Why would anyone go to see the same band three nights in a row? Because they do a completely different show each night. This is the magic of The String Cheese Incident. We, unfortunately, only started paying attention to SCI about five years ago (including the "dead"year of 2020 due to Covid) and these were our 31st, 32nd and 33rd shows. "Cheese"is an approachable band (yes, they mingle and talk with their fans, and you don't need a phony "meet and greet"to interact with them in person) and the SCI scene is a family in the truest sense of the of the word. The band members are extremely talented yet very humble. This is music that will make you smile and make you want to dance, and no one complains or makes fun of you if you dance poorly. Genre? They play almost anything out there from rock n' roll to progressive bluegrass to reggae to Latin (think Santana) to folk to soul to R&B to jazz to Celtic and everything in between. The joy of their shows is that you never know what to expect, only that it will be energetic, fun and make you feel good. You can't get a good feel for the band listening to one song. You really need to listen to at least a full set, if not a whole show to understand their skill, talent and musicianship. From self-penned originals to cover songs, the music is universally excellent. We have seen them in at least ten different venues (Stubb's in Austin, TX, last weekend being the most recent) ranging from Las Vegas to Colorado to Jamaica. Venues ranged from small to large (Red Rocks probably the largest) and have had a different but great experience in each place. The location really doesn't matter as long as you are there. My wife and I have seen a lot of live music over our lifetimes. She is 69 and I am 72, but we have been enamored with SCI for about five years. We will travel long distances to hear the band and interact with the community that makes up their base. Everyone is welcome......young, old, wooks, stoners, recycled Deadheads; young fans, old fans and in-between fans. Their five-day Colorado "run"every July is a journey to Mecca as they started playing in Colorado in the early 1990's and celebrated thirty years together. Two nights at the Dillon Amphitheater in the beautiful Colorado Rockies start the festivities. After a one-night break they move the party to Red Rocks for three more nights of music. This year they did a complete set with John Fogerty from CCR at Red Rocks allowing Fogerty and his son to take center stage and Cheese acted more like a back-up band and allowed John and his son to be in the spotlight. The five nights saw almost ninety different songs performed with only one repeat......."Colorado Bluebird Sky"was played at both venues. That is versatility. Give these guys a listen if you would, please. You will be delightfully surprised by their music and musicianship. They are the real deal. You will find yourself swept up in their music, particularly some of their long jams. Enjoy!
