Livestock are raised on pasture and treated humanely without growth hormones or antibiotics. Organic products do not contain GMOs or artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. About Us

Wholesome Sweeteners, Inc., formed in 2001, is one of the nation’s leading provider of sustainable, environmentally and ethically responsible, great tasting sweeteners. We specialize in supplying Organic, Fair Trade Certified, Non-GMO Verified sugars, syrups, and honeys, all made from nature’s best resources.

Organic Coconut Palm Sugar

Wholesome! Organic Coconut Palm Sugar (also known as Organic Coconut Sugar) is a rich, unrefined brown sugar with a deep caramel flavor. It is produced by tapping the sweet nectar from the tropical coconut palm tree flower and drying the nutrient rich juice in a large open kettle drum. The juice condenses into a delicious, handmade whole brown sugar that adds warm color and a depth of flavor to baking. No chemicals, bone char, or animal by-products are used to make or de-colorize this sugar making it ideal for vegans too.

  • Made from dried Coconut Palm Nectar with a deep caramel flavor
  • Sustainably Harvested
  • USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified
  • Gluten Free, Vegan and Kosher

Ideal for Baking, Beveridges, and More

It is delightful in brownies, cookies, and cakes, and also makes a perfect topping for oatmeal. Organic Coconut Palm Sugar also is commonly used to sweeten Asian dishes, sauces, and beverages.

How It's Made

Our Organic Coconut Palm Sugar is hand made by small farmer cooperatives on the island of Java in Indonesia. Cooperative farmers climb high into the Coconut Palm trees to tap the coconut tree flower for its sweet nectar, similar to tapping a maple tree for syrup.

Sustainability

Wholesome Sweeteners is committed to sustainable organic agriculture. The coconut palm tree has been harvested for over 4,000 years. Unlike the production of palm oil (made from the Elaeisguineensis) which has received a negative image for causing damage to the natural environment through deforestation and habitat loss for endangered species, Organic Coconut Palm Sugar is produced on small, sustainable, cooperative owned farms.

Farmers harvest all year round and use every part of the coconut palm tree including the coconut fruit for meat and water as well as the fibrous husk of the coconut for twine or weaving material. Coconut Palm Trees (Cocosnucifera) are tapped for 25-40 years and use less water. Since the tree produces for so long they are not cut down after each harvest. Thank you for choosing Wholesome!

Acceptable, Will Buy Again, But...
Taste is fine, used this for scones this morning, baked up fine. HOWEVER this bag, when opened, was as solid as a brick, although factory-sealed air-tight. I used a meat tenderizing mallet to break it apart, and once pounded, it granulated as expected. The price point is okay for a single bag, but am going to get a 4-pack or 6-pack of a different brand next time. I took a picture, but there isn't anywhere on this review page to attach an image.

I have used this coconut sugar to replace typical refined white sugar. I need to half what is typically called for in the recipe it is THAT sweet. If you are trying to keep baking a bit “healthier” but still want the full taste impact I would try this most definitely.

When I was eating clean and primal/paleo, I was trying all kinds of new things. I was loving what I was eating, meat and veggies every day were a-okay with me. It was a really great experience. I was avoiding white sugar, soy products, gluten, and other 'bad' foods. I honestly felt better eating this way. My symptoms from my hypothyroidism were minimized, I felt like I had more energy, and the swelling and water retention I get from both the hypothyroidism and my gluten intolerance, was significantly reduced.

After eating super clean and strict for about a month, I went on a shopping spree and splurged on various coconut products for baking - including this Wholesome coconut sugar. It really is delicious if you're baking with it. That's the main thing I've used it for.

In the last couple months, I haven't been able to eat things as clean as I would like. I can tell you that you'll notice a real difference between refined white sugar and coconut sugar if you're use to white sugar. Personally, I don't find coconut sugar as sweet as white. I tried it in coffee recently and I couldn't drink it (but I really don't care for coffee, I can only drink it if there's plenty of milk and sweetener of some sort in it). It didn't sweeten the coffee at all. - but this being said, this is when I'm going straight from eating white sugar to coconut sugar. Many things taste different once you're eating all kinds of garbage. Eating clean and getting all that out of your system will let you taste more delicate flavors - and overall, I can't recommend clean eating enough <3

I will definitely buy this again.
