- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2015Color: PinkStyle: Ice-Cream MakerVerified PurchaseSo because of some mixed reviews, I debated over a week on if I wanted to buy this. I kept all packaging and my amazon receipt for 3 weeks while I tested this out. I don’t understand why some have issues…this ice cream maker is amazing.
First off let me start by explaining why I was in the market for an ice cream maker, specifically a soft serve one. I have multiple food allergies. The top ones in ice cream would be eggs, chocolate, and wheat. I have searched and searched grocery stores for an ice cream I can safely eat and only found 2 (both vanilla flavors) that are free of all my allergens. I’ve called several ice cream stores that have soft serve, and none were safe for me. It got old fast eating just plain vanilla. So I started researching ways to make my own ice cream. I can make hard ice cream using my hand mixer, and I love soft serve, so I stumbled across this maker.
Due to many saying about difficulties getting it to make ice cream right, clean, etc I was nervous.
When it arrived (about 3 weeks ago), I washed up all parts, froze my bowls in my chest freezer and read the booklet to pass time. The next day I pulled out 1 freezer container and just made the vanilla recipe in the book to hold me over until I had other ingredients. Well, it made ice cream well, but too hard because I forgot about it and remembered about 45-60 minutes later. That made me wonder why people couldn’t get their Ice cream hard enough.
Since that day, I have successfully made several batches of various flavors. It comes out to be the perfect consistency every time. It takes about 25 minutes for me. I leave my bowls in my chest freezer (my fridge freezer is small and packed to the max with dinners and stuff I prep ahead of time as I have a busy week with work and school). They are in there for at least 24 hours before I use them. And they work like a charm every time. I don't care for mix ins, so I havent used that part. I don't think I ever will.
Cleaning isn’t that hard. I don’t even have a dish washer, I do all my dishes by hand. I immediately remove everything. I scrape the rest of the ice cream into a container and put in my freezer. I place all the machine parts needing washing in my sink and let the excess ice cream melt off. Then I soak them in warm soapy water, quick wipe with a soapy rag, rinse, and allow to air dry. If you allow the freezer bowl to warm to room temp and soak in warm soapy water, really no scrubbing is needed. Once the bowl is good and dry, I place it back in the freezer. I purchased large zip lock freezer bags to keep them in. I double bag them for good measure. As far as cleaning the unit itself, I just wipe with a damp rag if ice cream spilled.
I love this so much I brought it 7 hours to my parents for them to try it out and they ordered one too (in white though, my dad wasn’t a pink person). And it’s a huge plus that this comes in pink (and was $10 cheaper when I purchased than white) as my kitchen theme is pink. It is even the same shade of pink as my kitchen aid stuff.
I am so glad I decided to go with the good reviews and order me one of these. I’m ecstatic I can have flavored ice cream again. And I was confident in this enough, today the boxes went to my cardboard dumpster.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2012Color: PinkStyle: Ice-Cream MakerVerified PurchaseShort and sweet: It won't freeze your ice cream and it is a major pain to clean.
I've tried freezing the bowl in my regular freezer (0 degrees) and my deep freeze (-6 degrees) for several days at a time before use. It doesn't matter. "Milkshake" was the closest to ice cream I achieved.
There is a small hole at the base of the bowl for dispensing and the mixing blades have a spiral around the middle that, when the machine is turned on and the base open, will supposedly dispense your ice cream. Of course, all I got was slush, but moving past that, trying to get all of the ice cream out of all of those crevices was very difficult. The hardest part to clean was the piece with the handle you pull to start dispensing. It's virtually impossible to clean everything out of the mechanism.
I wish I had paid more attention to, not only the reviews, but the proportion of those reviews. When you have half as many 1 star reviews as 5 star reviews, there is a big problem.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2015Color: PinkStyle: Ice-Cream MakerVerified PurchaseWe have a milk cow and I thought this would be a great option to make ice cream without having to worry about ice and salt. It's design is really just for novelty, it's not very functional as a soft serve machine since there is a very brief moment when it will actually work for such. Either the ice cream is too runny and more like a milk shake or to hard to come out of the spout. Of course if the ice cream isn't feeding through the spout then the mix ins won't work either. As an ice cream maker it works just like any other with the freezer bowl. It does look really cute on my counter though :)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2013Color: PinkStyle: Ice-Cream MakerVerified PurchaseWe love soft serve, so I thought I would give it a try. It definitely is not like soft serve from a fast food place, but I didn't have to get a loan to buy it. I have used it 4 times and am satisfied with it. I think it's easy to put together, take apart and clean. we haven't used the topping dispenser yet. Of course, the bowl has to be frozen solid, and the last time I used it, I believe another batch could have been made since the bowl showed no signs of thawing out. The more you use it, the better the ice cream gets. I started with the milk from the fridge, and it took FOREVER to become soft serve. Now I just use half&half, pour it in a container and put it in the freezer for a few minutes. I didn't time it, but when I took it out, it had some ice crystals around the edges. I forgot to put the sugar and vanilla in before it went in the freezer, so I added them when I took the half&half out and it was fine. This really cuts down on the time it takes to make the ice cream. Take a few samples along the way. I took a sample and thought it was ready, but the next sample was perfect. Practice makes perfect or at least better. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2012Color: PinkStyle: Ice-Cream MakerVerified PurchaseThis is a great machine! If you are patient and don't expect it to make it in a few minutes, you'll be very happy. We've made piña colada ice cream, raspberry sorbet and vanilla soft serve. All turned out great! We keep the bowl in the freezer full time and it works perfectly. The batches take bout 20 minutes, but that's perfectly fine. I'd recommend this for sure!
