Funky stuff in my quinoa

Funky stuff in my quinoa
This review is not about the flavor or texture. The first time I made it it was great. However the second time, as I was poring it out of the bag and into the water, I noticed something black. I pulled it out and it was a wad of hair. Not one hair, a wad. It looked like something you might pull out of a drain. I cooked it up anyway thinking it boiled for 12 minutes but had to dump it cause I could not get over the thought of a tub drain.

I have just started eating Quinoa over the past several months and I am enjoying it very much. As I have gone gluten free and grain free, Quinoa is a nice substitute for rice and pasta. And by the way, contrary to what you may see written, Quinoa is a "seed". It is not a grain though it is often referred to in that way. Initially, I didn't like the flavor when boiled just plain and it took me awhile to get used to it. Now I boil it in either chicken stock or beef stock and it really has a nice taste. One of the ways I have used it is mixing it with chop meat and making hamburgers; you can also use it to make stuffed peppers. You can pretty much add it to anything and everything. There are many cookbooks and websites with all different types of Quinoa recipes. The main reason I enjoy eating Quinoa is that it is such a complete food. It is full of amino acids that your body needs along with proteins, other minerals and vitamins. One researcher said that if he was stranded on an Island and could only have one choice of what he would want with him, he said Quinoa because that would supply complete nutrition. If I go off of my program and eat wheat or pasta and I'm not feeling well, I will make some quinoa and find that it helps restabilize my blood sugar levels and balance out my system. Try it...you will like it.

If you have celiac or are gluten intolerant, this is the quinoa to get. We hear that quinoa is naturally gluten free, which is true, but unfortunately, it is cross-contaminated because of where it is growned (with other crops that contain gluten) or the equipment it is processed on (same machines that process wheat, barley etc.). This is the only quinoa that does not give me celiac symptoms. It is truly gluten free, as it says on the packaging. It is very good to boot. It has a nice nutty flavor. I am very pleased with Bob's Red Mill Quinoa and will buy again.

We are big on using quinoa in our diet. This very healthy South American seed is so versatile that it can be used in multiple ways from a breakfast (hot) cereal to a side dish mixed with caramelized onions (yum). I've used quinoa as a main course as Quinoa Pisano which contains sausage, tomatoes and baby spinach among other things. Quinoa can be a dessert (I made quinoa parfaits last night) and also a bread. The list goes on and on. This seed is exceptionally high in protein and is truly a super food. Now that is all the good things. On the negative side, I found this item overpriced. I can buy a good quality quinoa at Costco for 50% less than what is sold here.

This brand of quinoa has a particularly nutty, toasty flavor after cooking. It's much better than ANY store bought brand I've come across such as Ancient Harvest. Whatever Bob's Red mills does to produce this particular brand really brings out the true flavor of this grain. Can't go wrong with any of Bob's Red Mill grains. They are always a high quality product for the price. I've also purchased bulgar wheat, flax, barley, natural coconut flakes, almond flour, coconut flour, cranberry beans, and hemp to name a few. All were just terrific. Highly, highly recommend.

Beware - this is actually only ONE BAG! Very confusing information - pic shows four bags. I gave it a two star because it is a great product but way too expensive for one bag. Amazon did give a full refund and promised to reword the page to reflect actual product quantity.

Bob's Quinoa Organic and pre rinsed has really worked out for me. I like the taste and texture and that is nutrient rich.
I have a lot of digestive problems so I have switched to organic or at least non GMO and that has helped me a lot. The most important thing is to eat NON GMO at least. Organic of course would be non GMO. Making this switch has made a world of difference for me. I still of course take digestive enzymes and ACV as usual and recently have added Aloe. So along with the switch to non GMO and ACV, digestives enxymes and aloe - I feel like a normal person again
